We're currently awaiting Joaquin's arrival here on the east coast (fingers crossed it passes over us), but regardless, this rainy flashback to New York Fashion Week seemed fitting for today. I sported this fitted lace and mesh combo by Jonathan Simkhai for a day full of hopping around the west side between shows, meetings and recharging my phone at the nearest available outlet.
It should be noted: I started off the day with this umbrella -- only to remember why I almost never bring umbrellas with me in the first place. I always lose them. Always.
So Joaquin, if you're coming, I refuse to hop over to Rite Aid to buy yet another umbrella that will undoubtedly either: 1. snap in on itself from one gust of wind or 2. this forgetful gal will leave dinner after one too many cocktails and leave said umbrella behind. Instead, you can find me in bed, curled up with Elvis and a little Ella Fitzgerald humming in the background.

last moments of summer

We snapped these photos a few weeks back when summer's mugginess was still at its worst (hence the short shorts here) and while we're already headed into October now, I just wanted to bid my first New York summer adieu. Something tells me I'll be looking back on this particular summer for years to come, as you often do with any season or part of your life that marked a lot of firsts and self discoveries.
Now...on to fall!

nyc street art tour with vogue & longchamp

4 minute read
Dress: Longchamp: Pants: St. John; Bag: Longchamp; Sunglasses: YSL; Bracelets: Vita Fede
If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably noticed I've been doing a lot of hopping around Soho, the Lower East Side and Nolita areas lately. And as much as I love living on the West Side, there's something undeniably "gritty New York" about these more eastern neighborhoods, and I mean gritty in the best way possible. The vibe is palpably different. It's a little rough around the edges. It's raw. It's unapologetic. Rowdy bars next to tattoo parlors. Even the bookstores stay open late, welcoming slightly tipsy patrons to come in and browse after last call. And I love escaping to this part of town, especially in search of new street art murals that seem to pop up on a daily basis. Every corner you walk around, you are bound to see beautiful street art on almost every building. If you ask me, it brings them to life. My friend told me once how some people don't like having street art on their buildings, and how they look for a vandalism cleanup service in their area to take it off. If you're the owner of a successful, professional business, you probably don't want anything to affect your image, and I can see why they don't like this. Each to their own, but it really can add something to your building if you allow it. Some of the ones we came across were simply amazing.
A few weeks back, Lydia and I were searching for one particular mural, the Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld portrait by Bradley Theodore at Kenmare and Elizabeth Streets, right at the border of Soho and Little Italy. Unfortunately, when we got there, we were both pretty disappointed to find out it had been painted over a few months prior. We made do with a different mural (one that I actually fell in love with as well, seen here), but in a way, the Anna and Karl mural haunted me since then -- essentially, it was the one that got away.
Fast forward a few weeks, when I received an invite to join the Vogue and Longchamp teams for a mini street art tour of their own, with an exclusive invite to Bradley Theordore's home studio in DUMBO. I practically had to pinch myself when I read that. I then had to pinch myself again when I walked into his studio to see Anna and Karl hanging ever so neatly facing each other, in that same almost lovestruck pose. To say I was awestruck would likely be a sore understatement, but then we got to know Bradley, which pretty much was the icing on the cake. In short: he's the ultimate host and refreshingly easy to just hang out with. We snacked on cheesecake, sipped champagne and toasted his amazing view with homemade tequila cocktails he whipped up himself. He then walked us through his work space, played a few EDM songs he's really into lately and joined us for a late night dinner at Gali.
I know it's said plenty of times to the point of being cliche, but it's nights like that one that really prove New York is magic. Pure magic.
Huge thanks to the Vogue and Longchamp teams for inviting me!

the catcher in the rye

3 minute read
Crop top: Asos; Skirt: LN Family; Shoes: Steve Madden; Necklaces: Jennifer Zeuner; Bracelets: Vita Fede; Sunglasses: YSL
This past weekend, and pretty much every other weekend when I'm not traveling, I hop on the C train to Central Park to find a quiet spot to read. Granted, this has been my MO for most of my life. Simply put: I love to read outside. Just ask my parents. I would pace around our backyard with a book, making laps around the lawn, occasionally popping my head up if our dog, Bobo, happened to be following too closely next to me.
There's something about the fresh air, the buzzing of people passing by waltzing in and out of your book's narrative and the off chance that someone sitting on the bench nearby has read that book as well and wants to know what you think about chapter 21 -- for me, it makes the story that much more tangible, almost to the point, when I think about certain books I've read, I also recall where I was when I was reading it. What the temperature was like? What was going on around me at the time? Was I lying on cool grass or lounging on a back porch swing?
This gets doubly interesting, (at least for me anyway), when I get to reread old favorites of mine that are set in New York, actually here in New York. Most recently, I've started thumbing through The Catcher in the Rye again, the last time being in high school, like most other folks. And in a way, it's a weird déjà vu feeling to be reading it in Central Park. On one hand, I feel that much more connected to the book's events given that I'm actually sitting next to the very pond that Holden refers to when he wonders about the ducks in the winter and where they go when the water freezes over. And on the other hand, I can still picture Ms. Sweeney's freshman English classroom at Galena High School, where I first read the book.
I'm not sure if any of this makes sense (and it's fine if it doesn't), but it just struck me as both odd and kind of amazing that two parts of my life could come full circle like that. So I just wanted to share -- perhaps you associate time and place to certain books you've read as well?

the california line

2 minute read
Top and skirt: Cameo (sold out, but dying over this little matching set); Shoes: Steve Madden; Jacket: Old Navy; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
Random PSA: I'm going to let you in on a little San Francisco secret...the only cable car worth riding is definitely the California line, running from Van Ness to Market Street. Best views from the top of Nob Hill with Grace Cathedral, the Fairmont and the Mark Hopkins hotels nearby. Plus, if you catch it early enough, the conductors will humor you and let you set up a mini photo shoot on board.
In other news, I'm currently en route back home from Utah the next few days (driving to Salt Lake City today before catching a flight back home on Friday) and I cannot wait to share the photos Lydia and I worked on during this trip. Sometimes you just need a creative reboot, something to wake up and shake up your senses again. This trip was exactly what I needed, right when I needed it.
Stay tuned...more to come!

the new yorker bag

3 minute read
If you've been following along on Instagram, you may have noticed I'm in Utah at the moment, kicking my feet up on the dashboard of a Mustang convertible and watching the sunset in different national parks along the way. But, let's rewind a week back to fashion week.
This particular outfit was probably one of my favorites and easily one of the fastest ones thrown together at the last minute. This past fashion week was also one of my busiest -- which I'm by no means complaining about -- it just meant a lot of mornings started out with an early shoot with Lydia before leaving my apartment for the day, hopping to meetings, shows, events and eventually dinner and drinks with girlfriends to finally rest our feet and swap stories from the day.
Thankfully, I've gotten pretty good at packing the New Yorker bag -- one that contains exactly what I need for the day. Phone chargers, a few granola bars, a makeup bag for touchups, a small hand fan (because those Subways get hot!) and, while we're on the topic, a small army of Metro cards (because I'm notorious for forgetting that I have balance on one card and end up buying a new card). The lifesaver of the bunch, of course, is the pair of flats that I neatly tuck away. It may sound like a lot (and oftentimes, it is for a lot of my bags) but this Brahmin backpack was the ultimate fashion week secret weapon -- it fit everything, with a bit of room to spare -- and I love how it added an unexpected element to my outfits.

those west village date nights

2 minute read
Dress: Thakoon; Heels: Steve Madden; Bag: Chanel; Sunglasses: Celine
I'm currently cruising through Utah, lounging in jean cut off shorts, ankle boots and a tank (rocking convertible hair) -- but if we rewind a few weeks ago, I was cruising through the West Village in this little date night number. As someone who typically shies away from anything too form fitting or short, I love how this Thakoon dress still kicks things up a notch with a deep cutting back. Perfect for that "leave them wanting more" exit, right? 😉

go west, young woman

Sweater: Lord & Taylor; Jeans: Frame; Boots: Sorel; Hat: Gladys Tamez; Bag: Fossil
If you've been following along on Snapchat, you may have heard the whisperings of a Utah road trip in the works. Well, the day is finally here! I'm heading out west with a few good friends, a lot of good tunes and an open heart for any and all kind of adventure that may await us. As someone who grew up primarily in a desert environment, I'm looking forward to some dry, arid heat and blazing, pink sunsets (god, I miss those sunsets!). We'll be hitting up a slew of national parks along the way (Arches, Zion, Bryce etc.), for hiking, sunrise yoga, horseback riding (fingers crossed), who knows, maybe some rafting and fishing. Anything goes in the wild west!
If you have any recommendations for what to see or do in the greater Utah/northern Arizona area, please do let me know here in the comments!
Now, as for packing. Given that we're walking into a late summer situation over there, I've stocked up on a rotation of breezy summer dresses with light layers for when it gets cooler at night (since yes, there will be lots of stargazing!) -- but what I'm most excited about? Living in activewear for the next few days. Especially with Fashion Week behind us, it'll be nice to just start each day with a brisk run through the canyons before switching into some hiking gear for midday treks. I'm particularly excited about these boots by Sorel, which will be perfect with some jean cut off shorts, a bandana neck scarf and a loose tank -- perhaps for when we finally head to this beauty of a spot

lather, rinse, repeat {nexxus}

3 minute read
When I first moved to New York, I wasn't quite sure how my hair would behave. Being raised in Nevada, where the most humidity I encountered was during summer thunderstorms (and trust me, those weren't humid) and then hopping over to SF, where the air was often cold and damp with fog, my hair's never really had to deal with thick, muggy heat before.
My hair is relatively dry to begin with and is prone to frizzy flyaways -- something I've struggled with my whole life (it doesn't help that I have a ton of it either). So when it comes to my shampoo and conditioner routine, I typically look for products that pack a little extra moisture punch so to speak.
Luckily, I have a few New Yorkers here who were able to help out with my search (Christine, I'm looking at you) -- which is where NEXXUS comes in. When I first moved out here, I literally had one suitcase to my name, which contained bits and pieces of my life that would have to last me until the rest of my stuff showed up with the movers a week later. Yep. This means I didn't have a bed. I didn't have plates to eat off of. I didn't even have a wine key! (Clearly, my priorities were all mixed up when I was packing).
That's when Christine showed up. With an inflatable mattress and a bottle of champagne with several glasses to toast my new place with (and we then promptly went out for pizza afterward). Over the next few days, she'd pop in to see if I needed anything, sometimes just dropping things off as she went, including an extra set of NEXXUS shampoo and conditioner that she had scooped up after a recent visit to their New York salon (don't you just love friends that give you extra samples/products?).
I had heard good things about their product lines had never tried them myself so I was excited to give it a go. I was immediately hooked. NEXXUS's oil-infused line is perfect for someone with as dry and coarse of hair like mine -- but doesn't weigh anything down, which is a concern I have since I have really thick hair that I like to curl pretty often. Since then, I've tried out their Oil Infinite Nourishing Hair Oil as an all over finishing touch when I get out of the shower and I'll even bring it with me during the day to use on just my ends to smooth out any flyaways.
Have you guys tried any of their products? What are your thoughts? And dry haired girls -- I especially want to hear from you!

steady drum beat

How do you live your life to the beat of your own drum?
With fashion week in full force, I've been asking myself this question a lot. Namely because, when I look around the table at after-show dinner parties with my girlfriends, I'm so inspired by the women surrounding me. They're shop owners. Authors. Digital marketing trailblazers. Mothers. Wives. Bosses. Entrepreneurs. Bad. Ass. Women.
I can see the passion in their eyes and hear the excitement in their voice when we swap stories around the room about upcoming projects and endeavors. We share in each other's triumphs. And we learn from each other's failures (and celebrate them, too!). As cliche as it sounds, it's so beautiful when you can see your friends loving the lives they're creating for themselves, which in turn, inspires you to do the same.

devil may care {true religion}

3 minute read
Top: Frank & Eileen; Jeans: True Religion (I trimmed the hem myself because I'm a shorty); Shoes: Manolo Blahnik; Sunglasss: YSL; Clutch: Olympia Le-Tan; Necklace: Ribbon from Net-a-Porter package
As much as I love my full midi skirts and ankle grazing culottes, there's something about the girl that can simply pull off a pair of great fitting jeans and an oversized oxford that I've always secretly envied. It's that effortless effort, that devil-may-care approach to what looks like it required a lot of thought and consideration, but really didn't at all. She spends 5 minutes putting it together and can turn 5 heads before she reaches the corner on her way to the subway.

As I've gotten older, I've been able to fine tune my approach to finding said classic pieces -- making sure before I invest in something, that it hits all the checkmarks on my list, which of course, is crucial when it comes to jeans especially. This pair by True Religion (the Halle Super Skinny) is a recent addition to the rotation and I'm loving the overall fit of them -- with just the right amount of give and stretch, they're comfortable without losing their structure (something I detest about jeans that have too high of a percentage of spandex in them). Plus, they're mid-rise which I think hits perfectly for that slightly tucked but untucked look with your oxford.
Plus, another bonus of getting older? I think I'm getting closer to nailing that "getting-dressed-in-5-minutes" thing -- it just requires a strong cup of coffee and an amazing set of braids from the night before that you wake up in. 😉

looking up, looking down

I was chatting with a few friends the other day about how easy it is to constantly look up when you're in New York. The buildings. The flashing billboards. The traffic keeping you on your toes at all times. The sheer pace of the city makes it hard to not to crane your neck, seemingly the minute you leave your door. In fact, it almost demands it. But there's also something so fascinating about paying attention to what's at your feet from time to time, namely at the messages that pop up pretty often on most sidewalks around the city.
Stenciled spray paint. Stickers. Gum portraits (!!). Sidewalk chalk. You name it -- someone has probably tried leaving a mark with it at some intersection.
And the more you pay attention to it, the more you start recognizing the work of certain folks. If you follow me on Snapchat, you've probably seen me share some of my favorites pretty often: In Pursuit of Magic, Stand Here to Activate Your Super Powers, and then there's the elusive hearts left around the West Village, done simply in sidewalk chalk. And I love that no one washes them away. It's become one of my favorite Easter-egg like hunts around the city.
This past weekend, during one of my routine visits to Washington Square Park with Elvis, we stumbled upon a whole slew of sidewalk chalk art right in front of the Arch, all of them different quotes from notable New Yorkers or quotes about New York itself, including my favorite from John Lennon, that I shared here. And for a moment, a handful of other folks and I stopped in our tracks, took our earbuds out and read. The pavement. Together.
It's moments like that, that I always think to myself, 'Man, I hope New York never stops surprising me.'
Something tells me it won't stop.

perspective

3 minute read
Dress: Reformation; Shoes: Zara; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Lips: Burberry; Necklaces: Jennifer Zeuner
I originally had something else written for this post, but in light of a certain image that has circulated quite a bit the past 24 hours, and after reading this article about it (heads up: the images in this article are disturbing), it only seemed fitting to change today's topic.
I know we don't talk about politics or world issues here on This Time Tomorrow -- and I'm by no means trivializing what we do discuss here or any other fashion/lifestyle/travel/food/insert-niche-here blog for that matter. But I do think I'd be amiss if I were to post these photos today of one of my favorite dresses, taken in a beautiful city (San Francisco), in a beautiful country, without taking a moment to acknowledge everything that I'm so incredibly thankful for and blessed to have -- because it's so easy to lose sight of that at times. And I know I often do.
What really hit me (more accurate: what broke my heart) was the young boy's father's quote today in The New York Times:
"Now I don't want anything. Even if you give me all the countries in the world, I don't want them. What was precious is gone."
I guess what I'm trying to say, as we head into the long weekend, is perspective is everything. And sometimes you have to remind yourself that.

perfectly imperfect

3 minute read
Dress: Marchesa Notte; Shoes: Saint Laurent; Lips: Burberry; Necklace: Bauble Bar; Bracelet: Vita Fede
Sometimes the perfect dress comes along. And sometimes you have the perfect event to wear it to. And sometimes you have the perfect date to join you. And sometimes it's a perfect evening, making for a perfect memory. And when you come home, you let out a perfectly content sigh, thinking to yourself, "Now, that was just perfect."
And then sometimes perfect doesn't come at all.
And you know what? Who cares.
This Marchesa Notte dress has been hanging on my rolling rack for quite some time now, begging for just the perfect occasion to wear it. Admittedly, I've been traveling and working like a madwoman lately, so it's made "plan gala night" quite difficult, if not impossible. So it sits. On my rolling rack. With Elvis often hiding out under its many layers of tulle (he thinks I can't see him, which makes this scene all the more adorable so I let him continue, even if it means I have to take a lint roller to the dress later).
 When it came time to prepare for my full day of shooting with the Compass team in one of their unbelievable listings here in the city (see the first outfit here), I immediately thought of the woman who might be living in that gorgeous maisonette at 449 Washington Street. What does she do on a given Friday night? What's hanging in her closet that's burning a hole in her sartorial pocket? What is she waiting for to wear it?
That last question made me pause. Mainly because I bet she doesn't wait. At all. I bet she makes up her own occasion for it -- and throws on her best red lipstick. And turns heads while doing so. She doesn't wait for perfect. Because perfect hardly ever comes along.
So I guess what I'm really trying to say is: Fuck their version of perfect. Make your own perfect.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to buy one ticket to see the NYC Ballet's production of Swan Lake. I'll give you three guesses as to what I'm wearing for the occasion...

if/then

3 minute read
Top: St. John; Skirt: St. John; Shoes: Saint Laurent; Bracelet: Vita Fede
You know that moment when you're on the subway and your train just happens to be passing a parallel running train? And right before that line darts off in a different direction away into the dark down a tunnel separate from yours, you get these flashcard glimpses into a few of the cars. There's someone reading a book. Someone nodding their head in time with whatever's pumping through their headphones. And then, there's someone looking at you. Or it seems like they are. Or maybe they're actually reading the advertisement for same day mattress delivery near the window.
Either way, these little scenes unfold and just as quickly as they appear, they disappear again. Fleeting faces and stories and names that you'll likely never cross paths with again and for a second, it makes you wonder (or at least, it makes me wonder) what their lives are like. What if I were to trade spots with them? Where would I be darting off to? Who would I be looking forward to seeing that night? What would be bothering me at work? When was the last time I was really happy? Or sad?
Suddenly, the West 4th Street station creeps up on you and you're jolted back to reality. Your reality. And just like that -- those multitudes of other lives leave nothing behind but a trace of "what if?" lingering in your head as you put your earbuds back in and head home.
I've always been fascinated by this idea of momentarily "trading places" with random people I meet -- it's a little existential exercise that oddly makes me feel connected, even if it's just for a brief moment in time before my stop comes. So naturally, when Compass offered up a few of their amazingly beautiful listings here in New York as shoot locations, I have to say I fell in love with the idea of imagining this "sister" life of mine -- in an alternate universe where I live in a $5.5 million penthouse, throwing dinner parties every night, with Manhattan literally at my feet.
Because hey, sometimes you just have to put those vibes out into the universe, right? And don your best ball gown skirt for the occasion.

postcards from cabo {the cape hotel}

4 minute read
I mentioned this last week in my initial Cabo recap here, but it's hard to really go wrong with any resort when your morning itinerary includes: waking up to the sound of the ocean and bottomless margaritas that no one judges you for. But! The Cape Hotel! This is a bold statement, but I truly think it's one of the nicest hotels I've ever stay in.
And here's my rambling reason why.
It's not necessarily that the resort itself is beautiful. Because it is. Stunning, actually. The architecture sets it apart from every other resort nearby (thanks to lead architect Javier Sanchez), every detail of the decor is unique and chosen thoughtfully (and needs to be in my apartment, ASAP) and there was a copper tub in our hotel room. A copper tub. I'll let that last one sink in for a minute.
It's also not because of the private beach situated right out behind the property. Which, of course, is a fun little treat when you're floating in the infinity pool, watching other hotel guests coach their 10-year olds how to catch waves that would make a grown woman like me cry and paddle ashore.
And it's also not because no matter where you are on the property, you can always see El Arc de Los Cabos in the distance. But, this of course, made for some awesome cotton candy sunset views that I won't soon forget.
So why exactly then?
The staff. I've never met a more kind, gracious and all around lovely hotel staff and I sensed it the minute I arrived. As I mentioned last week, my initial flight out of JFK was canceled due to engine problems, which meant I had to trek back into Manhattan for the day and fly out the following morning. Needless to say, I was weary and jet lagged when I showed up at The Cape Hotel and in need of a very stiff drink. When we pulled up the driveway to the resort, I was immediately greeted by several members of the hotel, including Ivan, the sweetest bellhop I've ever met and David, one of the staff leads and my personal savior as he ordered said stiff drink for me.
Everyone knew my name. They all knew my flight situation. And they all kept saying how glad they were that I arrived safely. All of this might to be expected since my friend had already arrived the previous day and had filled them in, but something about it felt very genuine. I didn't feel like I was just checking into another hotel with the obligatory "we're so happy you're staying with us" being thrown out casually. I felt like I was returning somewhere that I had already been before and they were actually just happy to see me. And that's a really nice feeling.
The rest of our stay was, as you might expect, absolutely beautiful -- and the staff at The Cape Hotel really deserves the credit here for a number of reasons, the top three being: 1. they indulged my attempts at speaking Spanish 2. each morning we had a different floral arrangement on the bed and 3. they made some wonderful recommendations for what to see and do in the area that we might have otherwise missed. (I always love getting a local's perspective.)
Oh and let's not forget. They called me señorita the entire time. Done. Deal.
Huge thank you to The Cape Hotel for hosting us and showing us such a lovely time. I, for one, have a feeling I'll be back very soon.

postcards from cabo {the usual suspects}

2 minute read
Because after the flights are booked, the next step is scooping up a new bathing suit (or two). Admittedly, I don't splurge on swimwear very often so when Cabo was officially on the books, I decided to take the plunge on this Marysia bikini I had been eying for forever. Several scalloped tanlines later, and I'm still beyond happy with the decision -- of course, it was perfect for sitting poolside at The Cape Hotel (I mean, look at that view from the infinity pool) but I could just as easily see it doubling as a crop top alternative with a high waisted skirt of some sort.
Looking to jet off for one last summer hurrah? Here are a few other favorites that I would have loved in my suitcase before taking off.

postcards from cabo {whitecaps and white linen}

Dress: Reformation (they're having a big sale right now -- check it out!): Hat: Janessa Leone; Sandals: Zara; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Necklaces: Jennifer Zeuner
Because nothing says vacation quite like white linen everything -- especially this dress from Reformation, which has quickly become my MVP for the season. We shot these photos on our last day in Cabo, out on the private beach at The Cape, which was the perfect refuge for end of the day cocktails and sunset viewing. My only regret is that no skinny dipping was to be had out here -- perhaps a reason to go back sometime soon though? 😉
In case you missed yesterday's trip recap, hop over right this way and be sure to check back next week for even more ocean views from Cabo! In the meantime, hope you all have a great weekend!

postcards from cabo {call me señorita}

8 minute read
Confession: While writing up this travel recap, I may or may not have gotten in the mood by listening to the "Fun in Acapulco" Elvis album. It's amazing what a little Mexican trumpet fanfare can do to shake up the work week and instantly make you feel like you're south of the border again. This place is like paradise, but also make sure you have checked out the latest travel vaccines for visiting this wonderful slice of heaven. Having a Corona in hand doesn't hurt either (so please excuse any typos that might pop up here).
Another confession: While I do miss waking up to sound the sound of the Sea of Cortez gently lapping outside our hotel room and salty margaritas before noon, I think the serious withdrawals are due to the fact everyone called me señorita while I was there. Can we make that a thing here in the States, already? It sounds so much better than "ma'am" or "miss" or "hey lady!"
Now that we have those two housekeeping items out of the way -- let's dive into Cabo, shall we?
Rewind just a few weeks ago, when I was busy hopping around between Boston, Chicago and DC for work and practically living out of a suitcase each weekend. I was rundown and in desperate need of a big, fat, PAUSE button. When an old friend invited me to tag along down south for a few days, I didn't think twice about it. Two bathing suits were quickly thrown into a bag and more hats than I'd like to admit were tucked away in my carry on, with the promise of slow ocean days and even slower burning sunsets calling my name.
Admittedly, each time I head down to Mexico, I always toy with the idea of becoming an expat, imagining myself renting out some little oceanside villa. After all there are so many gorgeous villas you can rent in Cabo. I could picture myself working on my novel during the day and then heading over to the local bar in the evenings, serving up mezcal margaritas to the same 4 or 5 patrons each night. I'd be lying if I said this little daydream didn't sound really tempting during this past visit, I admit I even looked up Cabo Real Estate Services online to see what properties were within my price range. But I digress.
Here's a little recap of what we did, saw, sipped, ate and generally enjoyed while down south. And for the folks who have been to Cabo before, would love to hear about your favorites in the area! Please let me know in the comments below and let's compare notes!
Go Adventure:
1. El Arco de Los Cabos: This recommendation probably goes without saying -- but if you're in Cabo, you have to head out to Land's End, where you'll find the infamous rock arch formation that is widely used on all Cabo postcards. It's a short 15-20 minute boat ride from shore (you can see our see trusty boat in the photo below) and it is absolutely breathtaking. Considering it's the extreme southern end of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula, there's something very remote feeling about it, even though you're not far from the surrounding towns -- like it's the last stopping point between the world as you know it and the unknown. Depending on what boat tour you take, they can either circle you around the arch (which is what we did) or they'll let you swim ashore and head to Lover's Beach. Tip: Be on the lookout for sea lions!
2. Surf's up: Baja is known for their surf and all two of my actual surf classes have been down south in this part of the world (the third was actually a Tinder date in San Franciso -- but let's save that story for another day). My general thoughts? Depending on which beach you go to, their waters can be actually pretty easy for beginners like me. This past visit, we went ahead with the surf company High Tide, with the captain of their surf division, Alan, as our instructor. He was patient, hands on and determined to help everyone catch a wave. Admittedly, we had some harsher winds than usual, which made our breaks a bit choppier (excuses, excuses, I know), so yours truly was tossed around quite a bit. But I caught a few and Alan taught me some Spanish along the way! All in all, successful day.
3. Carve out time for sunsets: Because you should. And not enough recaps emphasize this. The sunsets are absolutely beautiful down here. Grab a cadillac margarita for the show.
Go Eat & Drink:
1. Flora Farms: We actually saved this for our last night in town, but I'm going to start with it first and say this: GO EAT HERE. It's a bit off the beaten path (OK, a lot off the beaten path. During our cab ride, we both whispered to each other saying that this might be a scene from Breaking Bad where we're going to get dropped off in the middle of the desert and have to call Sal to save us). But alas! It was well worth the long drive down a pothole-ridden dirt road, because when we finally arrived, we were greeted by the most darling little oasis of a restaurant, farm and village all combined into one, smack dab in the middle of the Mexican desert. Founded by a few expats, Patrick and Gloria Greene (oh heyyy, perhaps they can help me figure out my expat exit strategy!), Flora Farm is a 10-acre farming community and refuge, with everything grown on site pesticide-free, and then eventually used over in the restaurant (now that's farm to table!). The decor and layout of the entire place is darling -- very open and airy, almost as if you're walking into someone's backyard garden/patio space for a quiet dinner. Oh, and the twinkling string lights that crisscrossed the entire grounds definitely don't hurt either. I opted for the beet gnocchi, which was delicious, but immediately wished I had gotten the ribs since I literally stole every bite my friend would allow from their plate.
2. The Office: So at first glance, this is very much a "make some bad spring break decisions here" kind of place, but sometimes, it's fun to throw the wild card in every once in a while, right? Plus, the colors of this place were unreal (go check out the second photo in this post to see what I'm talking about). Head here for some casual afternoon drinking -- the people watching alone is worth it (that and the guacamole and ceviche). Tip: If you're like me and your last conversation in Spanish lasting more than 5 minutes was back in high school, do not (I repeat) do not raise your hand as a volunteer. For anything. Chances are, you have no idea what you just volunteered for. And let's just say, I learned this the hard way. 😉
3. Manta: Granted, I actually missed this spot (my darn flight from JFK was canceled, so I had to fly out the following day), but luckily, my friend was able to take full advantage the first night in (and shared the photos to rub in my face a day later). Situated at The Cape Hotel (where we enjoyed our stay - more on that in the next section), Manta is teased as a "comfort seafood" restaurant, which my friend adamantly confirmed, with the ceviche being the hands down favorite. Forutnately for me, executive chef Enrique Olvera has his other renown restaurant Cosme, right here in New York. Looks like I know where I'll be going this weekend. Who wants to join?
Go Stay:
The Cape: Alright, you may be wondering. How could you really go wrong with any resort down in Cabo, when it faces an ocean like the one featured above? And you'd be right. For the most part. Until you saw The Cape. And then you'd probably see why recapping this hotel in just a brief paragraph is actually quite hard. For starters, it's worth stating, we had no clue where to begin when it came to finding a resort down here but luckily, a few Google searches lead us to The Cape, one of the newest Thompson Hotel properties that literally opened up back in June (brand spanking new!) with some pretty noteworthy praise to date already.
Upon arriving on my first day, I could see why. Heading up the coast from the airport, you'll see a smattering of oceanfront resorts, each one of them more beautiful than the last, boasting a Spanish colonial flair, with bougainvillea wrapping around windowsills and simple, clean Mission style lines. Think Hotel California, if you will.
And for a second, when you're heading up to The Cape, you might think that's what's in store for you. Until you turn the driveway bend and see something quite different. My friend, being the architect buff (whereas I'm just an architecture fan), went through a little research craze over the hotel's lead architect, Javier Sanchez, and happily reported back we were in for a modern treat. The overall vibe is mid-century modern meets 1960s Mexican surfer lodge -- the overall structure is modern and sleek, with open-air vistas in all common areas so you're never NOT looking at El Arco de Los Cabos in the distance. The decor is where I freaked out. I mean, a copper tub. In our hotel room? Yes, please.
And that's where I'll stop on The Cape -- as I'll be sharing more snaps and stories about it specifically next week. In the meantime, I'd love to hear any and all stories you may have from your times down south in Cabo! Did you happen to volunteer for anything crazy like I did? 😉

off season

Trench coat: Burberry (borrowed); Jeans: DL1961; Shoes: Saint Laurent; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Shirt: St. John; Bag: Chanel
When I was apartment hunting in New York back in March, I remember passing a film crew on Perry Street here in the West Village. At the time, I didn't realize how commonplace this really is -- and immediately wanted to peek over to see if I recognized any of the actors. Unfortunately, I didn't see any familiar faces, but I do remember being very impressed by how well they had transformed this adorable brownstone walk up, once covered in snow and ice, to look like it was in the midst of spring. All ice and snow had been cleared, fake flowers filled the window planters in front and an actor hired as the mailman was in shorts. SHORTS, people. In March.
Where am I going with this story? Well when this beautiful trench coat from Burberry showed up a few weeks ago for a shoot, I was hesitant to throw it on, given that our humidity and heat is pretty unforgiving here at the moment. But then I thought of that poor actor turned mailman. And what a trooper he was. So I thought, if he can grin and bear it in temps hovering around the 20s, well then I shouldn't let this borrowed trench coat slip out of my hands without donning it a few times.

back to the sea {baker beach with hanes}

"We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea - whether it is to sail or to watch it - we are going back from whence we came." ~ John F. Kennedy
As much as I love the pace and energy of a city, there's something undeniably special about being able to stand right next to the ocean, with your toes sinking in the sand, waves lapping against your legs, and just feeling small. I've shared my thoughts around this before here on the blog, particularly in this post when I was reflecting on how I felt about leaving California for the opposite coast.
And my answer and feelings are the same as before. I will always be a city girl. But I'll also always crave the ocean.
Fortunately, moving from one coast to another means I'm never far from the sea and perhaps even more fortunately, working with a predominately San Francisco based team means I also get to visit my beloved Pacific Ocean pretty regularly. When I do visit, I try to fit in some dedicated beach time, and if the weather cooperates, I'll hop in to catch a few waves.
One of my favorite San Francisco beach haunts would have to be Baker Beach. It's tucked right behind the Dr. Seuss-esque trees of the Presidio with a breathtaking view of the Golden Gate Bridge flanked on one side. More often than not, it's shrouded in fog, but that rarely stops me from heading out with a blanket, a few friends and a 6-pack of something hoppy to just catch up and lose track of time. For these occasions, I love throwing on a trusty pair of perfectly distressed shorts, a wide brim panama hat, a slouchy sweatshirt and ribbed tank, like these by Hanes, to cozy up and breathe the ocean air in.
You might recall from earlier last year when I partnered with Hanes to share a few of my low-key weekend moments so I was excited to partner with them again to share how I incorporate the heritage brand in my off duty looks. For me, my beach moments are my time to disconnect and reflect, to run around, to muss my hair up with salty water, to splash others, to surf, to yell out to the waves and feel both invincible and humbled at the same time. It's important to me to feel untethered and just ready to run at full speed if I want to and I love my outfit to keep up, even if that just means I'm draping it over a nearby log before hopping into the ocean myself to surf a few waves. Hanes does that for me -- it's undeniably soft and comfortable, but packs just the right amount of laissez faire style that I think embodies the California spirit so well.

sundays in central park {toasting with remy martin}

3 minute read
If you recall from my San Francisco days, I had several refuges tucked around the city (my favorite being this particular spot). They were great places to think, to bring a book, to sit with Elvis, to listen to podcasts (I may have listened to all of Serial in the aforementioned SF spot), to just be alone if I needed it, heck, to just be.

Lately, I've been making my rounds around New York in search of my new go-to spots -- the places that'll never let me down if I just need an escape. Central Park, naturally, is riddled with them. These past few weekends, I've been making a bit of a Sunday tradition out of late picnics in Sheep's Meadow, just in time to catch the golden rays of the sunset filter through the buildings and trees. Armed with a few good girlfriends and a bottle of something chilled, it's been a great way to hit pause before the start of another busy week and get caught up on some of the weekend's festivities (or rather, dating escapades, I should say).
This past Sunday, we enjoyed a bottle of Remy Martin V, the 100% distilled grape spirit from Remy Martin, toasting the occasion with some of their specially designed glassware (who doesn't love a little extra glam for the park?). We went ahead and mixed a few signature Remy cocktails called the Vendetta (1 1/2 ounces of moscato wine and 1 1/2 ounces of Remy Martin V) with light snacks and heavy discussion around Sera's upcoming trip home to Turkey (which of course, got me thinking about this trip last year and craving another big one soon!).
Where do you and your girlfriends go for down time and drinks? Anywhere special? And more importantly, what do you imbibe for the occasion?

Dress: Burberry (borrowed); Shoes: Zara (old, but I'm obsessed with this similar pair); Jacket: Old Navy; Bag: Fossil; Necklaces: Jennifer Zeuner; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Bodysuit (underneath dress): Anine Bing
Another busy work week before heading off to San Francisco this weekend for a team offsite we have next Wednesday and Thursday. Added bonus: There may or may not be a certain Taylor Swift concert in my near future that I'm absolutely fan girl-ing over already. For those of you who follow me on SnapChat (username: krystalbick), I apologize in advance for the onslaught of obnoxious Tay-Tay references and snaps I'll be posting on Saturday. For those of you who want in on the fun, let's shake it off together!

new york in the fall {burberry soho opening}

2 minute read
Dress and bag: Burberry (borrowed); Boots: Stuart Weitzman; Sunglasses: Celine; Necklaces: Jennifer Zeuner
While we may be in the humid throes of summer still, I find myself craving fall, mostly due to the fact I've yet to experience a New York autumn. I can just imagine how beautiful Central Park will look in golden, amber colors, with folks bundled in light layers and scarves -- everyone anxiously awaiting the holidays to arrive and window displays to start lighting up. I have a feeling that it will live up to a certain F. Scott Fitzgerald quote that I've heard many times:
"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall."
In the spirit of fall anticipation, I don't think any other brand nails it quite as well as Burberry. And as luck would have it, the iconic house has opened a brand new Soho based store at 131 Spring Street just earlier last month, filled to the brim with everything you need for the crisp months ahead -- including a full service beauty counter (I just tried out a few Burberry velvet lipsticks and I'm obsessed). Personally, I think this may be a sign from the universe that I may need to pony up for my first Burberry trench coat. Thoughts?
Hope to see you in Soho!

pins and needles

Have you ever just walked into Zara, spent 5 minutes looking around, grabbed the first thing that looked cute and walked right back out? That was essentially me with this outfit. And I have to say, it's been, hands down, the most comfortable airport outfit ever (it was practically the silver lining to my slew of canceled flights to Cabo last week -- that, and well, the fact Cabo was the final destination doesn't hurt either).
I'll be sharing more from my trip to Cabo next week -- so stay tuned! I'm currently nursing sun and beach withdrawals.
