I originally had something else written for this post, but in light of a certain image that has circulated quite a bit the past 24 hours, and after reading this article about it (heads up: the images in this article are disturbing), it only seemed fitting to change today's topic.
I know we don't talk about politics or world issues here on This Time Tomorrow -- and I'm by no means trivializing what we do discuss here or any other fashion/lifestyle/travel/food/insert-niche-here blog for that matter. But I do think I'd be amiss if I were to post these photos today of one of my favorite dresses, taken in a beautiful city (San Francisco), in a beautiful country, without taking a moment to acknowledge everything that I'm so incredibly thankful for and blessed to have -- because it's so easy to lose sight of that at times. And I know I often do.
What really hit me (more accurate: what broke my heart) was the young boy's father's quote today in The New York Times:
"Now I don't want anything. Even if you give me all the countries in the world, I don't want them. What was precious is gone."
I guess what I'm trying to say, as we head into the long weekend, is perspective is everything. And sometimes you have to remind yourself that.
[…] there’s always one dress that rises to the top of my repeat list. Two summers ago, I wore this Reformation dress to death (including to a Taylor Swift concert, where several of my fellow concert goers told me Tay Tay […]

"What was precious is gone" — this. This this this.
I have been hugging my boys extra tight this past week. I just cannot and do not want to imagine losing them, especially like that…but it's so necessary to picture it so we can humanise this issue.
P.S: That dress is 100 different kinds of gorgeous, but your words made this post <3
so pretty 😉

Being someone who blogs about clothes and lifestyle as well, often it is so easy to disregard the "real" situations that are faced by many people in every nook and corner of the world and just be very self-absorbed in the beautiful luxurious things that life happens to bless us with. It is one thing to feel blessed but another to take a step to provide some kind of assistance to less fortunate people. It is absolutely not easy but I aim to fall into the latter group with whatever capacity that I have x
I can't even imagine this poor father and husband's state of mind. This is such a tragedy. Something needs to be done to help all of the Syrian refugees escape the fighting and terrorism in their country. It's such a frightening thing to realize that there are people in this world who live in constant fear and can't escape it. And when they try, there's no one to help them. And two little boys and their mother drown in the ocean.
Love the sexy tie front!

This story broke my heart as well…the image and just knowing how many lives were lost trying to flee for something better. I can't image the pain that this man is going through. He lost his 2 sons and his wife…it rips a huge hole in my heart. What you wrote is so true. Perspective is everything. I'm so blessed to have been lucky to been born to a middle class American family. We don't get to choose who are families are or where we are born. In these times we need to take a step back count our blessing and figure out what we can do to help others who might not be as fortunate as us. I don't blame this father at all for doing what he had to do for his family. It's a brave, scary, and often tragic journey these refugees take. And I hope that in this time of sorrow that this opens up a conversation about what is happening in Syria (and in different parts of our world where many of these migrant journeys take place). That these brings to light that something needs to be done.

The story of that little boy and what the father went through break my heart. Somedays I can't think about what our world has come towards because it is extremely saddening and heart wrenching. But on a happy note you do look fabulous and I love that we have blogs to be that happy creative outlet.

I read that article yesterday and just cried. That was one of the most heartbreaking images and one I won't forget soon. I just can't even imagine.

Shame that most people commenting are doing so with zero regard for the actual message of this blog post — are we actually having online conversations anymore these days, or just leaving links to our blogs in the hopes of referral traffic? 🙁
The story and images of that poor Syrian boy was one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever seen… For that one image, there are hundreds and thousands of children also falling victim of the dangers of migration due to persecution in their own home countries. Something needs to change, and yesterday's news story was a big reminder of just how much there's left for us to do to come together for the good of mankind. I hope the poor boy's soul finds the peace he, his brother and his mother were looking for — and I hope the father can find solace too. So sad.
