It's not officially summer unless an official summer playlist has been made. And now smack dab in the middle of a very warm San Francisco weekend, I figured it was only fitting to make said playlist. So without further ado, in no particular order, here's a peek at what I've been hitting "repeat" on lately. (If you're curious, you can tune in to the full list on Spotify, username: Krystal Bick.)
But of course, the important question of the hour remains, what have you been listening to lately? Do share in the comments!
1.) Django Django, "Default" // 2.) Vacationer, "Trip"
3.) The Lumineers, "Ho Hey" // 4.) Dr. Dog, "Heart It Races"
5.) The Black Keys, "Everlasting Light" // 6.) The Kinks, "Strangers"
7.) Twinsy, "Water Bombs" // 8.) Wild Belle, "Keep You"
9.) The Kills, "Pale Blue Eyes" // 10.) The Head and the Heart, "Cats and Dogs"
11.) Wilco, "Heavy Metal Drummer" // 12.) Goldfrapp, "Ooh La La"
13.) Van Morrison, "Sweet Thing" // 14.) Black Lips, "Veni Vidi Vici" Diplo Remix
15.) Lykke Li, "I'm Good, I'm Gone" // 16.) The Rolling Stones, "She Smiled Sweetly"
17.) Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, "That's What's Up" // 18.) Francoise Hardy, "Le temps de l'amour"
19.) The National, "Slow Show" // 20.) The Civil Wars, "Barton Hollow"
There's something about Wes Anderson movies that put me in a good mood, ready to walk around the city with my iPod blasting The Kinks and Rolling Stones.
Not to mention, every little detail of Fantastic Mr. Fox was cussing amazing.
Happy Saturday, everyone! Go out and enjoy that sunshine!

So if you've been reading this blog since Day 1 (let's face it, no one was reading it back then, including myself) you might recall that this time last year, I was preparing for an epic weekend of Coachella madness. My friend Cortney and I braved the long car ride from Reno, camped for the whole weekend and I ended up getting a second degree burn due to my sunscreen stubbornness. All in the name of Sir Paul McCartney and Leonard Cohen.
It's weird to think that was only a year ago. Needless to say, much has changed since then and needless to say, after tomorrow's rent check gets made out, I'm not in the same financial situation to attend.
That's why I bring you my "I wish I was going to Coachella" collection, via one of my lovely sponsors Shopbop and their featured L.A. designer, Of Two Minds. All the lacey, flowy shapes make me wish for those open polo fields and a weekend of no cares. Oh, and sandals and braids and flowers. Yes. That's a lot of hippie/indie.
And to top that off, I'm listening to Coachella playlists, courtesy of my friend Clay and his musical tease of a blog.
Now, back to packing my entire closet. No outfit post when your life is in bags, folks.

OK, really only two items on the list, so I'm not sure if it qualifies as a legitimate order of business, but here goes nothing:
1.) I'm actually looking forward to going to the movies by myself tonight. Yes. I said it. Has anyone else see the episode of Friends where Rachael learns to eat lunch by herself and enjoys it? That's how I'm feeling right now. Social norms be damned (on a Friday, date night mind you!) I'm looking forward to it! Big popcorn to myself. Big soda to myself. And, my favorite part, the only person I have to consult as to what movie to see, is myself.
Although that last part might be hard to narrow down. It's between "The Runaways" and "Remember Me," which is altogether really surprising as all three main actors in the two movies made for horrible co-stars in a horribly comical movie that shall remain unnamed. (I hope I didn't offend too may "Twilight" fans out there, damn, I said it). In my defense, a.) Robert Pattinson is yummy and I think he might actually be a decent actor (but when you're that yummy, who cares?) and b.) I could use a decent rock and roll, drug addiction story line today.
Tough, tough choice.
2.) I got flowers at work today. Sorry. Just had to gloat a little. They're beautiful orchids and have brightened up our little corner at work tremendously. To the person who sent them, thank you! You've put a big smile on my face and given me bragging rights for the day. Although I don't think you read this blog, so I'll send you a text right now…as I head out the door. To the movies, I go!
Happy Friday, everyone!

In response to some comments from Saturday's post, here's the proof: camel races exist! With even some ostrich racing, too.
It's a strange world we live in, I know.
Outfit post later on today. Stay tuned.
Yes. You read right. Here in Nevada, we race camels. It's three parts classy, one part cheap laughs. Trust me.
Today, the boyfriend and I headed up to Virginia City, an old mining town complete with old saloon houses and artifacts like the "Suicide Table" where gamblers of yesteryear lost all their savings and, you guessed it, killed themselves.
Again, super classy and cheap laughs. With deals on Bloody Marys everywhere.
Back to the camel races though, I knew I was going to be running around taking photos so I needed something comfortable. And in all honesty, I blatantly copied Ms. Christine over at My Style Pill and one of her recent outfits, because, well I couldn't help myself. Thanks, Christine!
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Good news, folks. Bob Dylan was incredible last night. Despite my doubts that he would play strictly new stuff (not that the new is bad my any means) he did manage to work in "Mr. Jones," "How Does it Feel?" and even a slightly raspier (and dare I say sexier?) version of "All Along the Watchtower." I. Was. Smitten. (I'll pause now for you all to feel a slight pang of jealousy. Take your time. Really.)
Bad news, I was perhaps too smitten and woke up waaaay too late to take a shower this morning. (I'll pause now for you all to saw,"Ewww.") So yet again, the fedora came out to play, to which one of my co-workers mentioned made me look like an old-time reporter. I searched desperately in my car for a reporter's notebook before taking this picture, to no avail. I did happen to make myself a makeshift press badge for the brim of my hat, though.
What? Don't act like you've never made one for your fedora. It's totally cool. Saw it in Vogue. Anna was sporting it.

You ready? Take a deep breath. Because here's how last night's Burning Man Fashion Show went down.
We had Abominal snow women on stilts.
We had some pretty f-ing sweet Burner dresses.
We made Kanye West jealous.
We had dancing pixie fairies.
We had dudes in cool hats with Dia de los Muertos figurines on them.
We had desperate women trying to buy Burning Man tickets.
We had a nice day for a white (trash) wedding.
And we had men in kilts.
A huge thanks to Ms. Emily from Strings & Buttons for being my lovely little photographer for the evening.
Now, I must be off. I still have makeup that I need to scrub/peel/scrape/burn off my face.
I never thought I would say this, but for once, I actually agree with Sarah Palin.
Watched "16 Candles" last night and I must say, I never really ever appreciated her first outfit in that movie, until now. The hat, the full skirt and the slightly off the shoulder top, sure it screams 80s, but not obnoxiously so. So chic and so goddamn comfy looking.
I tried to find a better picture of it, but this is the best Google could supply me with.
So without further ado, inspired by the 80s teen princess herself, Molly Ringwald, here's what I conjured up:

Awesome.
A five-chapter short story by Ian McAllister of The Sky Cave, recorded on a tasty four-track cassette recorder. And the videos are great. Only wish I knew where some of these people are today. Enjoy.
Finally, a president we can laugh with, and not at. Michelle, you're a lucky woman.

You should listen to this. You won't regret it.
I fell in love with the movie over the weekend. Watching this though makes you realize that it's more than the silver screen. Enjoy.

Alright, while there is plenty more where this came from, here's a snippet of the infamous and exhausting weekend of Coachella. Lots of good music, interesting art and meeting Devendra Banhart. In summary: AMAZING (despite my horrible sunburn).
