Survey: Ever have one of those mornings where everything about your outfit, just clicks. Yes, romper! Yes, jazz flats! Yes, yes, yes accessories! Everything between you and the universe seems copasetic. And you're on time for work because of it. Hell, early even.

And then, the initial buzz wears off, you roll over and sorta realize you're not that crazy about it anymore. Sorta like that boy your freshmen year of college who was so incredibly cute during your brief stints together in Philosophy 101, but then Italian 112 started and you were over it.

That's how I felt today. I knew I was going to be riding my bike for part of the afternoon, so I wanted something comfortable and breezy (still averaging 100 plus here!). The romper seemed like a natural choice, the checkered shirt was thrown in because of chilly office buildings and the fedora is my lousy and lazy excuse when I don't have time to do something with my hair.

Performance wise, I feel like I could have stepped it up a bit more. On a scale of my outfit happiness it ranked a 6. I usually try to shoot for 8/9 most days, so I spruced things up with my Electra Amsterdam cruiser. So if you get tired of looking at my lazy ass, let my blue baby be your eye candy instead.  He aims to please, ya know.

Shirt: Checkered shirt, Urban Outfitters
Romper: Black halter top romper tied to fit like a tube top, Target
Shoes: Leather jazz flats, vintage
Hat: Straw fedora, Peter & Grimm

rock, roll repeat

2 minute read

Alright, so I know I've been honing in on "My So-Called Life" looks lately (with the flannel, extensive use of jean and black, black black) but in my defense, I couldn't help it with this dress.

Again, this little spine inspired number is on loan from the Weardrobe Closet and in all honesty, isn't something I would normally pick out for myself. But sometimes, when life throws you fashion curve balls, you make a black spine dress lemonade. Too many cliche metaphors, I know. My journalism professors are no doubt cringing in their sleep at the very thought of that previous sentence existing somewhere in the cosmos. But worse things have happened to the English language I guess. I mean, Lauren Conrad has a book published. Need I say more?

Back to the dress, though. I'd like to think that Kate Moss could rock these looks, very rocker-ish, mod-ish, Moss-ish. But then again, what can't she pull off?

Dress: Mary Meyer spine dress (from the Weardrobe Closet!)

weardrobe dress up day #2

2 minute read

And another lovely little item from the Weardrobe Closet. Short. Sweet and very coral colored. I also found I couldn't decide between striking figure skating poses or ballerina poses but soon after, I realized there's no difference really. So I went for my usual-- the awkward avoiding eye contact with the camera. Enjoy.

The boyfriend left today for Japan. For a month. As a reminder, Ian, some of the types of kimono wrap robes that I would absolutely love you forever for can be found here and here. Happy hunting and of course, have a safe flight.

And with that said, I'm officially late for work now. Ah, blogging, the ruin of so many jobs for so many people, I'm sure.

P.S. Yay for larger pictures, via Photobucket. Big thanks to We Were Damsels for helping me out with that. Quick question though (as I'm really f-ing late now) is the size OK? Or are they too big? Feedback is encouraged!

weardrobe dress up day #1

3 minute read

Remember that package that I received the other day on my doorstep? Well, let's just say the Weardrobe Closet was good to me. Trust me, the selection process was not easy, especially trying to narrow it down to three items. Tears were shed and blood, probably spilled, but in the end, I gave one of my roses to this BDG Convertible Skirt from Urban Outfitters.

The skirt itself is awesome. Fun pattern, great feel to it and deceivingly comfortable. After some inspiration from JoyfullyStyled.com, I decided this is a definite for the list of my fave summer outfits. The only problem that I encountered was that I wish it was an eensie, weensie, teensie bit longer. I'm all for mini skirts, even with my somewhat stumpy legs, but if I have to spend most of the day trying to shimmy the thing down to sorta cover my bum, well, Houston, we have an outfit problem.

Don't get me wrong though, still love this skirt. I'm contemplating holding it hostage, but I don't think the Weardrobe karma gods will appreciate that.

In completely unrelated but still exciting news, I was tagged by the incredibly stylish Liz over at Late Afternoon to let you, oh devoted readers, in on ten things that you may or may not or just may not want to know about little ol' me. So let the creative and oh so insightful listing of things begin:

1.) I'm a vegetarian. Unfortunately, I'm a vegetarian with no admirable reasons and have been known to wear some fur on occasion. I know, I know, send PETA out to get me.

2.) My claim to writing fame (thus far) was when I wrote an Onion-esque column for my college newspaper about Lady Gaga and Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons. Huffington Post picked it up, reported it as true and someone even included it on Lady Gaga's Wiki page.

3.) I love satire anything.

4.) My nickname at my last job was Chubby since I'm always eating something. In fact, I'm 99 percent sure they installed the new vending machine just for me.

5.) I ran a marathon once and lost my two big toe nails because of ill-fitting shoes that began to hurt around mile 5. After this incident, it may be best for me to find women's narrow fitting shoes, so I know that the shoes will fit properly for next time.

6.) I have broken the hanging rack in my closet due to excessive weight from clothes far more times than I would like to admit.

7.) I wish I could have lived in Paris and been one of Hemingway's fellow expatriates.

8.) Pssst...I have a confession. I don't think the world is going to end in 2012.

9.) I studied abroad in Italy for a semester in college during the 2006 Winter Olympics. I met Shaun White while I was there. His red hair is not that red. Disappointing.

10.) Making fun of Sarah Palin is a pastime for me. She's like a bad car crash. Horrible but hard to turn away from.

And now I am tagging the following lovely people:

We Were Damsels
The Owls Are Not What They Seem
Jen Loves Kev
Between Laundry Days
This Little Piggie
Lilli Living

Happy Monday everyone!

if you can’t stand the heat

Above is what I wore today. Hot. Dry. Sorta miserable. And below is what I submitted for the "Summer Layers" contest over at Weardrobe. Although after putting myself through dress up of layers upon layers in the 100 plus degree weather, I could only muster one look before accumulating a pool of my own sweat. Weardrobe, you're lucky I love you guys.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go camping and I'm jumping in the first pool mirage I see.

First look-

Second look-
Dress: White eyelet dress, Urban Outfitters with a black slip underneath

I'm sure many of you wonder what I do, professionally speaking, besides entertain the blogosphere with amazingly awesome outfit posts. (Just indulge my delusional self and nod your head yes, please.) Well dearies, here in Nevada we rough the desert hills, mining for silver and tending to the fields. Leather-skinned outlaws roam and torment good folk, while the constant threat of isolation can drive a man crazy. CRAZY.

Ah hell, but everyone really knows gambling and prostitution run this state. And me? I work 9-5. Yep, a 9-5 prostitute. Now you can say you've met one.

Just kidding. I'm working as a paralegal right now, killing time before I find the perfect way to word my pitch letter to Anna Wintour, making her realize that there is no possible way she cannot have me write for her publication.

Yeah, I know. The prostitution bit was probably more exciting. And, as I'm sure I just lost 10 readers because of that statement, probably more believable, huh?

Damn it.

So lovelies, I was channeling my inner, lanky, pouty-faced runway model the other day (her name is Natasha, from Russia) and was wondering what she would wear to prowl the alleys of Reno. This is what I came up with.

it’s all fun and games until someone loses their shorts

2 minute read

WARNING! The following images may or may not contain a certain pair of jean cut-off shorts that the creator of this blog has recklessly worn far too many times, thereby risking the integrity of her fashion contributions to the overall blogging community.

You have been WARNED.

Ah, hell. I love these shorts though. Probably a little too much, which is why, after a long and emotionally wrenching talk, the shorts and I have decided that they should retire, just for a little bit. Think of it as their long overdue paid vacation time. To the Hamptons or something.Or Barbados. I'll let them choose.

In the meantime, thank goodness I received a little package on my doorstep the other day bearing the words "Weardrobe." Yep, borrowed items are here and ready to play. Just in time for the weekend!

As for the above outfit, I dug out these floral tights from ages ago and decided to don then once again. I remember loving them the instant I saw them at Urban Outfitters, which also happened to be one of the first times I realized just how much financial damage could be done in one store. It was eye-opening. Truly. Not that much has changed since then. Except for the whole borrowing of mom's credit card. That definitely changed after that day.

I love perusing the fashion blogging community, seriously, it's like an inspiring gold mine of ideas, all at your fingertips.

Don't know what to wear with those tights? See what someone else came up with.

Don't know how to pull off that leather vest? No biggie. Someone lovely at blogspot has got you covered.

Think you're crazy to wear red, pink and neon green together unless you're binging on some acid? I bet there's someone out there in the World Wide Web that would assure you that you aren't.

What I love even more though, is just how support everyone is of each other.

So you can imagine the shade of red I turned when I stumbled upon the Fashion Jinx the other day and happened to see myself featured among his fashionistas ala mode. I almost couldn't believe it. Me? Little ol' me?

Even if Mr. Jinx claims temporary insanity for posting me up there, I don't care. A big, big, BIG thank you is in order! That said, without further ado, THANK YOU!

freedom flowers

2 minute read

OK, so by a show of hands, who saw the above picture posted the other day, taken by none other than the fashion Midas touch himself, The Sartorialist, and swooned a little bit on the inside?

Go ahead, raise 'em high where I can see them. Her hat, the red lipstick and of course, those goddamn FLOWERS. Utter. Greatness. And this Parisian chick knows it, too.

That's when I figured, why let the Parisians have all the fun? They already get the to-die-for accent and near perfect bone structure. See where I'm going with this? Of course you do.

Yours truly, moi, jumped in the car last night, raided Wal-Mart's decorative flower section, chopped up some felt and burnt myself too many times with a glue gun while my boyfriend serenaded me on the ukulele and produced this little number:

But did I stop there? Nah, of course not. Naturally, I had to one up the above-referenced Parisian chick so I threw on some pearls and a simple gold chain as some, fou fou (emphasis added for French accent).

Total damage: $12 and some blisters from the glue gun, but worth it.

Moral of the story: Life's too short (to envy those on The Sartorialist) so bring the flowers to you! Oui?

A typical work outfit. That's why I jazzed things up a bit with this mouth-watering green of a wall. Who knew this BCBG dress would look so watermelon-rific next to it? Makes you ready for summer, huh? Or perhaps just hungry? Or both?

Apparently though, it was a reserved parking lot, (whoops). I just loved how the sign read "Parking For: Baboo and Sinai Schroeder Law Offices." Because everyone knows Baboos come before lawyers. And they get very angry when you park in their reserved parking spots.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! And as a sneak peak, a lovely DIY masterpiece is coming your way within the next 24 hours. But if you skip out on me to catch up on re-reading Harry Potter, I completely understand. No hard feelings.

Dress: BCBG high-waisted dress, scored it at Ross for $100 off!
Shoes: Lace-up cream colored heels, R2? (Does anyone recognize that brand? I got the pair at a consignment shop, so I'm just relying on the label)

have new skirt, will travel

2 minute read

Absolutely. Love. This. Skirt. So much so, that I waited for the mailman in it.

Then I killed sometime in front of a smaller shed-looking building with a cute little star painted on it.

After that, I found a green door that I thought contrasted nicely with the lavender.

Finally, I took some gratuitous pictures of the tulle and bow detail of the skirt, because, well, why the f- not?

Oh, did I mention, Sarah Jessica Parker called (interrupting my quality time with the mailman) and demanded her outfit back, since it's the skirt she wore for the opening credits for "Sex and the City"? Well, she did.

We're currently working on a trade for some of her Manolo Blahniks. I told her to tell Matthew hi for me. Ya know, your typical Sunday.

Here's a dress, that despite having worn it quite recently, just didn't get photographed for you lovelies due to a.) poor lighting b.) forgot my camera or c.) I was slightly inebriated and the photos didn't quite come out as expected.

That said, this little flapper number was my submission for Weardrobe's best vintage inspired look contest. Sure, the dress may not be vintage, but it looks kick ass when you twirl a little bit. And who can say no to twirling?

never trust a woman in socks

2 minute read

Yes, here it is, folks. I thought this day would never come. Brace yourself. Here it comes. Ready?

I finally warmed up to the idea of wearing socks.

Now don't get me wrong. It's not that I'm opposed to cotton/rayon fabric against my ankles in any way, quite the opposite actually, especially on winter nights. But there's something about the unspoken requirement to wear them, the attachment, the necessity that bugs me. And probably the fact that I used to have a drawer full of black socks when I was a waitress as they would "sock check" us before every shift, making sure NO ONE had white or (insert other colors here). Nazi regime, anyone?

But once I started seeing more and more of this sock action popping up, particularly with cute heels, I looked at my neglected sock drawer of yesteryear and felt a tinge of guilt for neglect. So I donned these puppies with my new yellow strappy gladiator heels (I think it's a nice contrast) and dressed it down a bit with my cut-offs and a plaid shirt I rescued from my boyfriend's goodwill pile.

Socks, you're still not exactly on my good side. But you're not on the bad either. I guess that's a start, right?

in the army now

2 minute read

You know, just your typical morning when you wake up at 6 a.m. to fit in outfit pictures for the day and decide to head to the alley behind your boyfriend's house, while people honk at you to get out of their way. I mean, no biggie, right?

But besides being completely exhausted in these photos, I must say this jacket is quickly becoming a new BINGE favorite of mine. Yes, everyone and their half-brother has been raving about the Balmain craze when it hit us a few months back (myself included) but it wasn't until recently that I stumbled upon this find at Charlotte-Rusee of all places. My insticts said, nah, pass on it. But my better instincts (they tend to yell over the other ones) asked me why the hell not?

So I did it.

Will this fad soon pass? Probably. But for now, I'm content.

Pearls, floral embellishments and a headband, I couldn't possibly feel more girly today. And this shirt does the trick, yessir. and CUT…

2 minute read

If you're like me (DIY-challenged) anything that can be done with a simple pair of scissors and some patience to change up even the most drab looking pieces is a godsend from the crafty beings above. This cutout dress is just that.

What originally started out as my $9 score from Wal-Mart, turned into a hot little peek-abo dress with diamond shapes at the sides. All it took was some tedious shaping (as to make the sides as even as possible) and some even bigger inspiration when my boyfriend pissed me off and I felt like cutting something sexy up. (For that Ian, you're off the hook.)

And the best part? It's so accessible. Think about your closet right now. I bet most of you have some kind of little black dress that needs some … revamping. Go ahead, try it out. Go crazy. Cut!

Happy Birthday, America…

< 1 minute

you ol' gal, you!

And in honor of her humble (belated) birthday, I sported this red, white and blue outfit this past weekend for lake-related activities. plaid by day, little black dress by night

2 minute read

I wore this little number with two purposes in mind: a.) to look somewhat appropriate at work b.) to be able to leave work and meet up with the boyfriend at an art festival downtown. I've never really pictured myself sporting a plaid shirt quite like this, but once I threw it on, I liked how it was a funky, (albeit grungy) contrast to typical go-to little black dress.

The fedora on the other hand, because I can't lie here, was a little less organic and more a product of bad hair that morning with little time to fix it. Which reminds me, after looking through some of these past outfit photos, I need to start styling my hair. I swear, I don't always wear it in a messy bun/ponytail. Sometimes, I actually look like I care. Promise. Sometimes. Not all the time. But sometimes.

Happy Fourth of July everyone! Hope the weekend treats you beautifully with good weather and even better company! I'm off to pick out a red, white and blue outfit (for Weardrobe's weekly contest) and then heading up to Lake Tahoe for some river rafting and BBQ adventures.

stripes + florals, the grand experiment

2 minute read

I've been wanting to try this look out for quite some time now, ever since spotting July Vogue's spread on mixing the joys of florals (who doesn't love flowers?) and stripes (who doesn't love feeling nautical?). The only glitch was that, while I have plenty of the aforementioned patterns, none of them felt right together, you know what I mean? Like too much clashing attitude.

And that's when I finally had to concede that I'm not much of a pattern mixer. Initially, when I first got this skirt, I planned on wearing a black or perhaps navy blue bouse with it, something that wouldn't distract from the flowers. Nothing too heavy.

Still, I didn't want to admit defeat and decided on this navy blue and white striped tank from yesteryear, took a deep breath and walked out the door to work. Some interesting looks, yes but I did manage to solicit an interesting run-in at the gas station that went something like this:

Random guy: Hey, excuse me... Me: Yes?
Random guy: I just wanted to tell you that the sun has nothing on you. Stay gorgeous, sweetheart.
Me: Thank you, sir. That's sweet of you to say...uhh...I hate to ask you this now, but I need to move my car and you're blocking me.

I was tempted to ask his opinion of florals and stripes together, but figured I wouldn't get an honest answer from him.

What do you guys think? Hate it or love it?

What happens when you casually mention to your mom that you really want a.) a denim vest and b.) something marching band uniform inspired ala the Balmain jacket that had everyone drooling? Somehow, as I found out the other day, she'll use the powers of the universe and her undeniable knack at thrift shopping (I blame my shopping addiction on her) to combine both desires into one super awesome, power vest.

reading between the lines

2 minute read

Little by little, I’m pushing the envelope as to what I wear to work. It’s pretty casual in the first place, but it is a law firm after all, thereby disqualifying most of my summer wardrobe on the grounds of, well it’s a law firm.

This little number, for the most part, I picked up in San Fran and absolutely love, love, love the loose feeling of this shirt. The high-waisted shorts automatically won in duel against my cut-off shorts (again, it's a law firm after all) and the boots, I thought, why the hell not? Who doesn't wear their black, lace-up ankle boots on a Monday?

Certainly, this girl does.

Now, wish me luck with the lawyers. I'm going to need it.

some good ol’ fashioned outfit catch up

2 minute read

I'm a lazy blogger, I know, I know. So here's a rundown of my weekend adventure outfits (adventures not pictured) almost in time for the next weekend. Ha. My procrastination amazes me sometimes.

le biker, le chic:

Pssstt...also, I have a secret to this hairstyle. Wanna know it? Well, do ya?

Shirt: Vintage Jason Motors t-shirt Vest: Vintage black leather vest
Shorts: DIY jean cut-offs
Shoes: Zigisoho cut out heels (love these!)
Jewelry: Gem embellished tie necklace and chunky black bracelet, both from the CR Shades: Black way-farers, Ray-Bans

party like it's 1989:

There's only one way to describe how I feel in this dress: sassy. Yes, sassy. Take it how you will, but with the shape of the slightly bubbled mini skirt and the big bow in front, it's hard not to walk around like an 80s power chick.

Dress: Floral, bubble shaped tube top dress, CR
Shoes: Black gladiator heels, Steve Madden

i love baubles:

Baubles and baubles and baubles and baubles...

Shirt: Black racer back tank, Urban Outfitters
Skirt: Multi-patterned full skirt, Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Vintage, tan kitten peep toe heels
Belt: Vintage cream colored belt

Ahem, now it's back to the work I was supposed to have started a little while ago. Stay tuned for this weekend's adventures (and outfits) because San Fran here I come. Should be crazy. Yes. Very crazy.

Yeah, that’s right, I hang out with sailors

2 minute read

This is a story about a boy and a girl.

Meet the girl. She often does this, looking out windows and avoiding eye contact with cameras, giving an elusive yet hopefully intriguing appearance.

Girl spots boy. Meet the boy. He wears a yellow rain coat and some people call him "Captain."

"So uh, you come here often?"

"This seat isn't taken, is it?"
"So what's your sign?"

Girl loses interest, because let's face it, sailor clocks are never dependable (he's displayed the same wrong time for as long as she can remember) and he probably won't call anyway.
So instead, girl posts close-up shots of her outfit including her new go-to skirt with awesome brass buttons.

And she lived happily ever after. The End.

Shirt: Navy blue ruffled tank, she doesn't remember where she got it
Skirt: Khaki, high-waisted front double buttoned skirt, BCBG

Woke up a smidge early and realized that I had won the Weardrobe contest "Mellow Yellow" only to yell out "I won!" to the last person on earth that would ever know what I was talking about--my boyfriend in an early morning haze of sleep.  (Sorry about that, Ian).

Of course, a big thank you is in order to the Weardrobe team for picking yours truly and specifically to Weardrobe's wonderful Jessica Schroeder of What I Wore for being so supportive and enthusiastic about fashion and fashion blogging.  She's got a good sense about blogging, incredible style and some overall good life vibes. Seriously, go check out her blog. You'll view your closet a little differently.

Scram. Go. Git.

I won't feel bad that you're leaving my page. OK, maybe a little. (But I'll survive.)   And as if that wasn't enough, I was notified that I was featured on Weardrobe's tumblr blog. Seriously, guys. I'm sure my boss had his fair share of concerns after seeing my blush activity today. Thank you, again!

Now, as for the Anthropologie gift card...let the online shopping begin! Then maybe some sleep. Night ya'll.
