I can't seem to wipe the smile off my face since yesterday. Why? We just happened to visit The Shire and I completely and utterly geeked out to the point I'm sure I made my middle-school self proud. No shame here.
Going to have to keep it short today as we're running off to go caving! More photos to come so stay tuned! Or follow along right here on Instagram.

in my suitcase…

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I’m currently overseas, visiting New Zealand and
Australia(!!). It’s my first time visiting this little corner of the world and I couldn’t be more excited to have Dan by my side for the trip.
Of course, aside from the inevitable, “What do we do first?” I’ve been scheming for quite some time about exactly what I would be packing for this little adventure of ours. Since it’s the middle of spring over there and most of our itinerary involves lots of walking, hiking, and even the occasional jumping out of a plane (more on that later), I wanted to make sure each piece I packed was functional but still chic.
Here’s a little peek at what I’ve brought along for the ride … including the most amazing piece of luggage ever by Rimowa. This guy is holding my life for the next two weeks — and will be by my side during the holidays, too, when I will be visiting loved ones. There's something to be said about a sturdy suitcase (especially one this well designed) -- I tend to be an over packer for most trips, so it's nice to know my things are in good hands.

Well it's happening! We're currently en route to Auckland, New Zealand for the next two weeks or so for what we've affectionately (or perhaps more appropriately) started calling our "journey." Since I'm absolutely awful at falling asleep on planes, I've prepared for the 16 hour flight with plenty of reading material, a healthy stash of Zzquil and, of course, a playlist or two. Here's a bit of what I'll have on repeat (hopefully as I catch some ZZZs over the Pacific Ocean).

Oh, what a week! Trying to pack in as much work/errands/more work/and a little bit of play before we leave this weekend! Not that I'm complaining at all -- just wish I had a few more hours in the day to fit everything in. More importantly, I wanted to thank you guys for all trip recommendations! Clearly, the man friend and I have plenty to read up on over the next few days. 🙂
Also on our agenda -- definitely making time to dress this guy up in his Halloween costume this week. He absolutely hates life when he's wearing it, but it's just too good to pass up.

introducing…elizabeth charles

2 minute read
If you recall, a few months back I listed out some of my favorite places to shop around San Francisco -- topping my list were a few local boutiques and start up sites based in the area. One that's becoming a quick repeat offender for my weekend routine is a neighborhood haunt of mine: Elizabeth Charles in Pacific Heights.
Of course, I was drawn in for the beautifully-styled window mannequins and the lust-worthy inventory (hello Isabel Marant, Kenzo and, my personal fave, Roksanda Ilincic), but it wasn't really until I got to know the shop owner and founder, Elizabeth herself, when we worked together for my Fashion Week wardrobe that I realized I was hooked! She's got an incredible dry wit, a wicked sense of styling and an Aussie to boot (so needless to say, I've been picking her brain about where to stay during our trip).
Don't you just love when your favorite shops end up having the coolest shop owners? Makes you just want to hang out all day! (And trust me, I'm guilty of this.)
Stay tuned for more details about a fun event I have in the works with Elizabeth Charles. In the meantime, let's just say you can save the date of November 20th.
And on a side note, if you're a Rachel Zoe fan, you should check out the Hangout on Air that a few of my team members worked on with her. Tune in at 1:30 pm PST today!

You may have caught me alluding to this news I'm about to share (or perhaps you over heard me yelling it here with excitement on Twitter), but either way, drum roll please...
In just a few short days (eep, T-minus 7 and counting!) I'll be heading to the land Down Under, specifically New Zealand and Australia for a much-needed two week vacay! It's my first time visiting each country but both have been at the top of my bucket list for quite some time now. (If we want to get nitty gritty about it, it all started with my Lord of the Rings obsession in high school, but we'll save that story for another day.)
Of course, as the diligent traveler I am (read: I can barely focus on much else these days), I've been immersing myself in countless travel blogs, adventure tour sites and naturally, a few fave Aussie fashion blogs (hello Gary Pepper!). But I'd love to hear what you guys might have up your sleeves! Any tips/sights/adventures/stores/restaurants/Tolkien must-sees that we simply cannot miss? I'm all ears!

It's been a while since I've donned a printed suit, which is odd considering it basically was my MO this time last year (remember this get up?). So when it came time to pick my outfit for last week's Express event, I knew I wanted to give their suiting a try -- and I wasn't disappointed! I've been itching for a black and white plaid and/or herringbone suit ever since seeing this photo of you-know-who and the leather detailing on the labels here sealed the deal.
Thanks again to everyone who made it out last Thursday and special thanks to my lovely co-hosts, Julia, Taylor, Ahn and Jessica
Hopefully I'll see some of you again this week at Macys -- full details here.

Hope you all had a great weekend! To kick this Monday off, I'd like to invite my SF readers to a fun styling event I'm hosting this Thursday, October 24 at Macy's with San Francisco Magazine. We'll be celebrating the launch of a few great lines that are now being carried in store, including Maison Jules, which I happened to catch a peek of while in New York just a few weeks ago. Plus, happy hour bites from the gals over at Rice Paper Scissors, a live performance from local band Kiwi Time and, of course, plenty of champagne to be had. All in all, not a bad way to spend your Thursday. So mark your calendar already! 🙂
Festivities start at 6 sharp at the Macy's in Union Square on level 3, in the Impulse section -- hope to see you there!

It's definitely been a while since I've shared a little bit of this and that with you guys. Here are the recent happenings, beginning with this infamous little piggy that finally made it all the way home with me this past weekend. Elvis is deathly afraid of him. It's pretty hilarious to see them duel.
So happy to have Domino back in my life! // The man friend at a recent show of his.
These Oscar de la Renta booties are everything to me at the moment. Yes, they're another Real Real find. Have you signed up yet?
Just a couple of goofballs who love photo booths. // My partner in crime, Heather, and I, unwinding after work the only way we know how -- with champagne on hand.
My latest flea market acquisition -- kinda obsessed with styling this guy these days. One thing is for sure, I need to stock up on more booze. It's looking awfully sparse at the moment!

express X girls night out

< 1 minute
I don't know about you, but the past few weeks have been non-stop! Work is in full-swing and I've been busy prepping for a few trips I have on the books that I haven't had much time to come up for a breather. (Don't you just hate that feeling?!)
Luckily, I've partnered with Express, who never disappoints with their get out and celebrate attire. And I certainly could use an excuse to let my hair down these days. What are we toasting to? Their brand, spanking new flagship store is opening in Union Square at 301 Geary Street and I, along with a few of my favorite blogging ladies, will be there to ring it in in style this Thursday, October 17th from 6:30 - 9pm.
Best part? Well, there are a few actually. First, attendees will be able to shop the store a day early before the public opening and secondly, the first 100 folks to spend $100 that evening, will score themselves a pair of tickets to Treasure Island later this month (while supplies last).
Plus, make sure to RSVP to rsvp@express.com by tomorrow Oct. 15th for a chance to win a $200 gift card at the event!* So really, what are you waiting for? I'll see you this Thursday for plenty of drinks, music and good ol' fashioned girls night out fun!
*Not valid on purchases made with gift cards. Official rules can be found here.

Took advantage of the Indian Summer we've been experiencing to hit up the Alameda Flea Market yesterday with Heather. It's been a while since I've made time for this and I completely forgot how much I love browsing through antiques. Dare I say it, but I may have caught the apartment decorating bug again -- which I've also been sadly neglecting as of late.

I'll be the first to admit that these photos are extremely sub-par but I couldn't NOT share them. Truly a dream come true to see an Alexander Wang show. The laser cut leather details, the elbow length gloves, the sweater Instagramed all over the world and my utter fan girl moment when Erin Wasson closed the show -- all in all, definitely a highlight of the trip!

There was something about the Christian Siriano show that just blew me away. I've narrowed it down to a few things to blame: a.) the black and white color story (with healthy doses of jewel tones thrown in) b.) the sprinkling of flirty crop tops and c.) THE FEATHERS.
d.) Naturally, I choose all of the above.

honey by marc jacobs

< 1 minute
As some of you may have guessed by my Instagrams as of late, I've teamed up with the Marc Jacobs team for a fun little celebration of their latest perfume scent, Honey. They asked me to share some of my favorite "honey spots" around San Francisco and as it turned out, New York as well -- two cities near and dear to my heart.
From top left to right: The Palace of Fine Arts -- perfect walk for a Saturday morning // Peels in NYC's East Village -- to die for donut brunch! // Lincoln Center -- I get giddy every time I head here for Fashion Week // The calm before a runway show // View from Crissy Field in SF -- Elvis I love cruising around here together on Sunday mornings
Hope you enjoyed spotting my bee out and about around town -- now it's your turn! Head over to the My Honey Spots website here and upload your own favorite "Honey Spots" and make sure to tag #MyHoneySpots on Instagram and Twitter.

Jacket and dress: Zara; Hat: J.Crew; Picnic Basket: Picnic Time (borrowed from Heather); Wine: c/o Francis Coppola
While I love heading out for Fashion Week, it definitely takes a big toll on me when I return back to my normal routine. I spent most of this past weekend unpacking the last of my bags, catching up with my guy, giving this dude a much needed bath and finding every and any excuse to be outside (San Francisco summer has arrived!). Naturally, we figured the weather made for the perfect excuse to enjoy this Sofia Coppola rose I've been saving -- so on Saturday we biked over to Fort Mason and lounged/sipped in the afternoon sun. Just the weekend pace I needed.

This dress was actually one of the first things I packed for New York. It's a recent consignment find (from The Real Real, naturally) and I've been itching to wear it out for a special evening ever since it arrived. Luckily, the Socialyte Gala was just the ticket I needed for an evening of drinking, dancing and meeting the infamous Menswear Dog
Also, as some of you may have noticed, I finally got my act together and booked a long overdue hair cut. Huge thanks to the lovely folks at Arrojo (especially you, Tina) for taking care of this gal's weary locks. I'm back to my curly bob ways and it feels great!
