live your adventure {eddie bauer classics}

3 minute read
Turtleneck // Striped shirt // Pants all via Eddie Bauer; Shoes: Saint Laurent; Bag: Proenza Schouler; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Lips: Stila "Beso"
There's something about Thanksgiving break that's always a bit harder than other holidays to return back to reality from. It's just long enough to be too long for a long weekend and too short to really be considered a 'break' -- it's like once you've hit your groove sleeping in, eating too much and shopping online sales in your pajamas -- BOOM -- Monday hits. And it's back to the grind, folks.
But!
I have a mini reason to celebrate this week. A few of my blogger pals are joining me at a little soirée Eddie Bauer is hosting this Wednesday where we'll be toasting their new flagship store digs with a little bubbly and tunes to shake off those post-turkey day blues. More to come on that soon.
As for this outfit? I have to admit, I practically lived in slightly different variations of this get up all weekend and loved how comfortably pulled together I felt the entire time. It's this fine balance that's really one of the main reasons I was excited to style a few of the Eddie Bauer winter pieces in the first place. Since moving to San Francisco, I've fallen in love with this incredible tango of city life and nature. Sweeping ocean views, gigantic Redwood trees, Muir Woods, Highway 1 coastlines, wine country -- they're all a short drive away from the city -- and I always get swept away by the idea of packing my bags randomly on a Friday evening after work and jetting off down the coast, On the Road style for a mini adventure. Honestly, what more could you ask for? If anyone is thinking of moving to San Francisco, take the plunge as I did; it's such a magical city! Be sure to contact sf real estate agents who will help you with your San Francisco dream house search. You'll soon be jetting off down the coast on a spontaneous adventure as I often do. Who knows, maybe it's in the cards for this Friday? And I think I know exactly what I'll wear...

old world {a moveable feast}

2 minute read
Dress: Robert Rodriguez (similar style here); Shoes: Henri Lepore Dezert; Bag: Chanel; Sunglasses: Target; Necklace: BaubleBar
One of the things I loved most about our trip at sea was the excuse to dress up every night. There's something undeniably old world and romantic about boarding a ship armed with some of your finest evening attire, and nothing but a slew of dinner plans and cocktail parties ahead. And trust me, it was a moveable feast in every meaning of the phrase. Each evening, we enjoyed a new restaurant on board, taste testing our way through every cuisine imaginable -- from hearty steaks to incredibly fresh lobster and crab -- and everything in between.
Our last evening aboard, we enjoyed a private dinner at the Chef's Table, where the Executive Chef Antonio Cereda, prepared each dish for us practically before our eyes. While each dish outdid the one before it, I have to admit, the seafood risotto remains my ultimate weakness.

postcards from the caribbean {sailing away with princess cruises}

4 minute read
As I mentioned in my last travel installment with Princess Cruises, I'm a rookie when it comes to cruises. I think I've likely always felt reluctant to try them because I tend to get cabin fever pretty easily, constantly looking for the next thing to jump to while on vacation. What I didn't realize was just how much activity can be packed into a 5-day cruise. While our on board activities were a constant shuffle of pool lounging, drinking and catching the World Series while it was on (all of which was exactly the kind of R&R I needed), we managed to fit into several days of excursions, stopping off first at Grand Cayman (otherwise known as Sting Ray City) and then Cozumel, Mexico (for some Mayan ruin hikes).
As someone who always has her eye on the next destination, I loved the idea of waking up each morning in a different port, with a new adventure ahead of us. Furthermore, if you're tempted to embark on a cruise of your own, why not take a look at some of the latest cruise deals online to find yourself a luxury getaway at an affordable price? So, let's get started, here are a few snaps from our time on and off shore -- hope you enjoy!
Obligatory champagne toast while leaving the Miami dock.

My cruise partner in crime, Beca, and I.
To say we were spoiled by so many great meals and treats from the Princess Cruise team would be an understatement. More to come on our on board meals in an upcoming post.
The fearless crew from left to right: Vicki, Marianna, Jenny and I.
Once I got the whole Steve Irwin story out of my head, I warmed up to the idea of holding one of these (giant) guys. And I may have even kissed one (apparently it brings 7 years good luck?).
The beautiful thing about vacation? It's always Marg o' clock.

Stay tuned for another cruise installment tomorrow, featuring the outfit above.

paint it black {friday}

< 1 minute
There's nothing I love more than online Black Friday sales, especially when you can enjoy them in bed, in pajamas, with a slice of leftover pumpkin pie nearby. One of my new favorite online haunts this year has been The Dreslyn, mainly because I'm never disappointed by their selection of designers (UM, have you seen that IRO jacket above?) but also because their Black Friday sale takes the cake this year. Brace yourself: 20% off site-wide, on both full price and sale items. Just be sure to use the code BLACKFRIDAY at checkout.
Happy hunting!
!function(d,s,id){var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)) {e = d.createElement(s);e.id = id;e.src = p + '://' + 'widgets.rewardstyle.com' + '/js/shopthepost.js';d.body.appendChild(e);}if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') {window.__stp.init();}}(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script');

It's one of my favorite times of year: Shopbop's BIG EVENT sale. So let's not waste anytime then, shall we? Here are the rules:
1.) Spend $250 and get 15% off
2.) Spend $500 and get 20% off
3.) Spend $1000 and get 25% off
May the odds be ever in your favor.

adored {winter is coming}

2 minute read
Upon moving to the Bay Area, there were a lot of things I immediately fell in love with. Unbeatable proximity to wine country? Check. An amazing baseball team? Got it. An incredible restaurant scene? Yeah, all over it. And while I normally don't complain about the weather here (because it's hard to beat 65 degree weather year round), I have to admit, there's something about having seasons that I miss a lot these days, particularly the transition from fall to winter.

Occasionally though, we have these amazing stints of rainy days that let up for brief sporadic sun breaks, only to start pouring again soon after. It's on days like that, I love to curl up in bed with a few good books, several magazines and the newspaper and simply listen to the rain fall outside. Of course, the only uniform suitable for said activity involves a slew of ever rotating oversized sweaters (the kind that slouch perfectly off your shoulder) and barely there delicate undergarments (because who doesn't love the idea of something sexy hiding under layers upon layers of blankets and knits?).
For this year's rotation, I was recently introduced to the brand Adore Me and was immediately drawn to their selection of bralettes (a personal weakness of mine). This ice blue set has been on repeat lately and I love how I can layer it with different pieces for a subtly sexy peek-a-boo effect. If you're looking to stock up your rotation of sweet nothings, the folks at Adore Me are offering one reader a set of their choosing. Simply enter your email address and favorite set below for a chance to win!

i’ll have what she’s having {statement basics}

< 1 minute
There are a few holiday gift guides in the works over here at TTT HQ, and without fail, I already have a run over list of items I've bookmarked for myself. And really, I blame Everlane and their winter catalog. It arrived at my apartment yesterday and within a matter of minutes, I had already added most of their chunky knit collection to my cart, starting with that sleeveless number up top. Killing. It. Oh, and that Shlimp & Ulrich necklace? Have I mentioned I've been particularly good this year? (hint, hint) 😉

open waters

2 minute read
To follow yesterday's sunshine-infused post from Turkey, I have a few more travel recaps for you this week and next, this time from my recent sea excursion with Princess Cruises. Admittedly, as much as I love the ocean, I've never considered myself much of a cruise person. (If there is such a thing?) But if there's anything that this blog has taught me over the past several years, it's that I can always surprise myself. And I usually do.
We set sail for a total of five days into the Caribbean Sea, stopping off along the way at Grand Cayman (Sting Ray City!) and Cozumel (near Tulum, Mexico), more on both to follow soon in a future post. While each day was filled with activity and one too many margaritas, both on shore and off, I have to say some of my favorite moments (and the moments that I seem to miss most especially now that work has kicked into full swing) were stolen out on our room balcony, simply listening to the ocean at night. It's oddly calming listening to something so powerful hum through the evening hours, especially when you can't see it, but really only feel it.

bodrum diary {turkey part III}

3 minute read
As you can see on UK Smiles, there are so many reasons why you should add Turkey to your traveling bucket list! That's why it's quite bittersweet seeing my Turkey trip come to an end here on the blog. Mind you, I never meant to drag out my recaps through November but I think part of me has been holding out from posting -- if only to savor the last remnants of our adventure a bit longer.
For the final leg of our trip, we headed down south to the coastal town of Bodrum for some much needed R&R after hopping around Istanbul and Cappadocia. Bodrum is known for being a destination among local Turks and Europeans alike -- most notable for their nightlife and dining. This portion of our trip, fortunately, took on a much slower pace with lazy mornings snacking on watermelon next to our hotel pool, long days at the beach (I made it through three different books) and our biggest decision of the day being where to eat dinner that evening. Bookending the trip this way made all the difference in the world -- we left tan, relaxed and beyond content.
If you're just joining now, check out the first two parts of our trip here and here.

i’l have what she’s having {fall investments}

< 1 minute
I'm slowly (but surely) unearthing myself from mountains of work these days, but that doesn't mean I haven't been coming up for air in the form of mini retail therapy sessions here and there. Some key fall investments for me? Namely that fringe leather jacket (oh, the mini dance sessions I would have in it) and that belt bag, aka glorified fanny pack. Hey, no shame here.
Now, do I resume digging away at my mountain of work or watch Taylor's Blank Space video again? Decisions, decisions...

the road to cappadocia {turkey part II}

4 minute read
To think it's been over a month since we wrapped up our whirlwind tour of Turkey, actually blows my mind a bit. Where has the whole month of October gone?! In all fairness, life got a bit hectic the minute I returned back to the States. I've started a new role at work (which I'm beyond excited for) and have been cranking away at big holiday campaigns -- all of this is to say, you may have noticed regular programming on This Time Tomorrow has been anything but lately. While I'd love to say I have this whole balance thing figured out between work and the blog (a common question I get via email from you dear readers), sometimes it's a fine line. And when 2am rolls around, you have to learn how to just walk away from the laptop. Easier said than done, of course.
But what about Turkey, you ask? Well I have two more installments coming your way this week, plus a whole other slew of travel posts straight from the Caribbean, so let's pack our proverbial bags for a minute and rewind back to September, when Heather and I were still bouncing around Turkey -- Cappadocia, to be exact.
We actually only booked ourselves 48 hours in this little pocket of the country (smack dab in the middle of Turkey). Why? The main catalyst was for a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the canyons which I had romanticized about ever since spotting it during a Google Image binge. The landscape in these parts is indescribably eerie and at the same time mesmerizingly beautiful. Hailing from the desert myself, there's an undeniable aching charm that desert landscapes can have over you and it was definitely palpable here.
These dwellings sprinkle the countryside. Originally homes, these "caves" are pretty easy to spot while hiking around -- just look for the etched out windows and oddly placed doors (that seem to have no easy way to climb to them).
Taking in the view during an impromptu hike, during which we followed hand drawn arrows on rocks to figure out the best path to the top. At certain points, we lost track of the arrows and had to circle around frantically for the next one.
We spent a lot of time at this woman's stand, browsing through her jewelry and bags, while spending a bit of time with her children.
Sunset ATV tour? Basically the only way to explore! We rode through the Red Rose Valley, making our way to the abandoned village you see above here. It was one of those moments where time felt suspended and untouched.
While we didn't get the sunrise we were hoping for (it was quite overcast), I have to say this truly was a bucket list moment for me. We took off with at least 30 other balloons, hopping (sometimes narrowly) over the spires and peaks of the canyon and I loved every minute of it.
Stay tuned later this week for the final part of our Turkey travels.

gun in your holster

2 minute read
Shirt: Everlane; Jeans: BigStar; Shoes: Henri Lepore Dezert; Bag: Proenza Schouler; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Belt: Moschino; Watch: Daniel Wellington
I've had a few books on rotation lately, namely Lena Dunham's Not That Kind of Girl (still making my way through, but love it so far) and the wildly Instagramable How to be Parisian Wherever You Are. Both have filled a particular type of role during my most recent travels, but it's the latter that I've surprisingly been taking to heart lately. Sure, I don't expect to turn into a Parisian overnight after reading it, nor did it challenge me in a highly intellectual way either, but the "snackable" bits of advice (on love, style, confidence, sex, you name it), have been exactly what I've needed to keep in mind these past couple of weeks.
One particular favorite quote reads: "The signature item is an attitude. It is the gun in your holster that makes you feel well dressed and invincible."
Lately, I couldn't be be relying on this quote more. Work has been running me through some pretty long hours (it is holiday season after all) and while I love the go-go-go nature of it, I'm more often than not, getting dressed while it's still dark out, which makes feeling put together at all times, a bit tricky.
Fortunately, a great rotation of black skinny jeans (like this pair from Big Star, which I've been living in lately) and an oversized silk blouse are really all I need to get through the door. For a daily uniform, it's understated, chic and polished without looking too overdone, and I love that while it only took 2 minutes to put together, it still gives me that attitude/confidence boost to really take on my day. Plus, these jeans fit like a glove at just the right high-rise cut -- striking the perfect balance between slightly formal and slightly off duty. Net, net, if my attitude is the gun in my holster, then this uniform is my ammo.

laced

3 minute read
Dress: Derek Lam (on sale!); Shoes: Henri Lepore Dezert; Bag: Chanel; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Necklace: Jennifer Zeuner
This dress found it's way onto Instagram a few weeks back and I loved seeing the comments come in about it. While it somewhat lacks in hanger appeal, I have to say it's probably one of my favorite dress purchases to date, combining so many go-to elements for me. Black and white. A little bit of intrigue with the different lace varieties. And the hug-like silhouette that then flares out at the hem. It's just the kind of dress that I feel confident and like myself in, which really, what more can you ask for? Of course, the fact it was also majorly on sale certainly helps as well. 🙂
As for the occasion? This past weekend I attended the last stop of the College Fashion Week tour put on by Her Campus. Fun fact (that some of you may know): I started this blog back when I was graduating college. Granted, I'm far from college age now, but I applaud the idea of making a fashion show specifically for college-age girls, with accessible but on trend pieces. I'd be lying if I didn't admit it's something I would have loved if it were available when I was in school, because, really, college is one of those times you're truly discovering who you are outside the context of home, family, high school, and that very much that spills over into how you begin to shape and discover your own personal style. I, for one, experimented with a lot of styles in college -- some good, some bad and some downright, well, ugly. But the process was fun, nonetheless.
That said, Saturday's festivities were a blast and I loved getting the backstage pamper treatment with full makeup thanks to Bare Minerals, followed by some incredible hair magic thanks to Tyler at Tresemmé. Huge thanks again to the College Fashion Week and the Teen Vogue team for having me!

Apologies for the radio silence as of late -- hopped out of town for a quick getaway (my first cruise actually!) with Princess Cruises and have been enjoying a lot of salty ocean air and lazy days by the pool. Granted, wifi has been a bit unpredictable out on the open water (as expected) but it's been the perfect excuse to unplug for a few days and clear my head. When quiet moments like this come along, I love crafting a little playlist to zone out to -- something to tune the world out (even for just a moment). gorgeous & green

2 minute read
I know I say this from time to time here on the blog, but sometimes when those certain hellish work weeks come along (you know the kind), it's easy to just crawl back into bed and give into marathon sessions of {insert cult hit TV show here} and resign until Monday. And trust me, sometimes you really need just that reboot. But other times, especially those that give you an excuse to scoot out of work a bit early on a Friday (but not too early) and throw on a cocktail dress -- well, you have to take advantage.
Last weekend, I was invited to the Gorgeous & Green Gala at the Bently Reserve in San Francisco put on by the Global Green organization, whose proceeds go back toward advocating for smarter solutions to climate change and other eco-friendly initiatives. Aside from fan girling over Goldie Hawn and Navid Negahban among other celebrity hosts for the evening, I loved finding an excuse to hunt down a green dress for the occasion (the evening's attire requirement). Oddly enough, I don't own a lot of green in my wardrobe (especially of the cocktail variety), but this emerald color caught my eye so much while I was browsing The RealReal that I may have to incorporate more of it into the daily rotation.

blue jean baby {dl 1961}

3 minute read
While I live in jeans pretty much year round, there's something about picking up a few new pairs for fall that still gets me excited. Don't get me wrong, I love a pair that's been broken in, year after year, (still have a pair from high school that I *kinda* fit into) but I'm always amazed at how fast evolving and innovative the jean industry can really be with new fits, new stretch and new sculpting capabilities. Really, it's funny to think that something as time-honored and as classic as the all American blue jean seems to reinvent itself time and again.
So naturally, when DL 1961 asked me to try out their new smart denim technology, I was definitely curious. Denim is such a huge part of my life, but I demand a lot out of a good pair. On any given day, I'm usually running (or biking) to meetings across campus, helping style on set at shoots or simply need to look that certain polished but undone Silicon Valley chic. My jeans need to stand up to the challenge. And this pair? I think it's won me over. Comfortable stretch, without losing that substantial denim feel, just the right amount of give where I need it and a great overall slimming effect. Oh, and well, I like to think they make my butt look good too, so there's that.... 🙂
Have you guys tried out their smart denim technology yet? Would love to hear what you think!

i’ll have what she’s having {fall cravings}

< 1 minute
Regular programming may be a bit bumpy around these parts the next few days. It's going to be one of those weeks, I'm afraid.
But, that doesn't mean I don't have some sartorial distractions up my sleeve (for you know, those '2- am-I-just-need-a-retail-fix-breaks'). This assortment all started with these boots, and it was game over from there. There's something so fall-worthy about a great pair of leather boots -- they seem to really kick off the season on the right note which is why I've been searing high and low for my inaugural pair this time around. These guys may also fit the bill (but I'll keep my options open this week).
What boots are you craving for fall?

life lately {indian summer}

2 minute read
While I'll always be a fall girl at heart (I just love layers too much!), I've been soaking up the west coast's Indian summer lately. All I can say is San Francisco this time of year is just too good to pass up. Here's a taste of what I've been up to...
1. A view that never gets old. #PalmTreesForDays
2. Packing up for weekend trips just got a whole lot more organized (and chic!) with my new Cuyana travel case
3. Ocean salt working wonders on my hair. Must find a way to recreate this texture at home. Most of my beach sprays don't cut it. Any suggestions?
4. One of my coworkers recently mentioned that he loved how monochromatic my looks are becoming lately. I guess I will always just love a good black and white look, like yesterday's outfit post
5. Peek inside my evening clutch (oh, and don't forget about my work and weekender bags!).
6. When in Los Angeles, do as the Los Angelenos do...rent a convertible.
7. I'm a creature of habit when it comes to my Saturday routine. Gimme the lifestyle section (of most any newspaper), a tall iced coffee and a side of flowers and I'm a happy girl.
8. Did someone say flowers?
9. This past weekend marks the first time I've ever laid out in SF in a bathing suit. The weather was beautiful! Lounged around with Elvis, Natalie and Kim for a few hours while sipping wine and catching up. Girlfriend time is always better with a little sunshine. Oh, and this Triangl suit? A keeper!
10. One of my favorite hotels in San Francisco -- The Fairmont -- does glamour right. I mean, check out that lobby!
11. Sunday casual in ripped jeans, sneaks and these Ray-Ban Clubmasters that I can't get enough of.
12. Ohhh la la...this sweet nothing set by Beautiful Bottoms is taking lounging at home (when you don't have AC) to a whole new level.
As always, you can follow along right here on Instagram.

As much as I love traveling, there's something so great about getting settled back into your routine at home. This past weekend, I took full advantage. what’s in my bag {evening edition}

2 minute read
Packing an evening bag (or clutch rather) can be tricky. You have limited space to pretty much hold your essentials for the night, so editing is key. Since I've gotten older, I've adopted more of a mom approach to my evening bag (yes, I really do bring a granola bar with me) but I think I've finally fine tuned it. Here's a peek inside...
The necessities: ID, cash, credit cards...because you clearly won't get far without them.
COVERGIRL Outlast Illumina lip color: I have a confession to make. I'm pretty awful at checking my lipstick for touchups, especially for evenings out. It somehow always slips my mind and before I know it, I'm taking my makeup off at the end of the night, wondering how long my lips were left looking like that. I know, I know. Blasphemy. But! I think I've met my match. This duo by COVERGIRL is the perfect night out pair in that the color lasts up to 24 hours, thanks to the topcoat gloss that locks in extra moisture. Just a few little swipes of the topcoat (in between cocktails) and I'm good to go.
Spare earrings: Just in case you need to add a little sparkle to your look.
Kind granola bar: I started bringing snacks with me for evenings out just in case I don't have time to grab something to eat before heading out. Granted, it definitely doesn't substitute a full meal before drinking, but it does help tide me over until I sit down and eat a proper meal (or get late night french fries, whatever comes first).
Crest 3D Whitening Strips: Lately, I've been packing these in my clutch to throw on before heading out (generally an hour before).
Altoids: Because you never know who you might strike up a conversation with at the bar. 🙂
And in case you're just joining now, you can see my other bag edits here and here.

ode to istanbul {real style, real travels}

6 minute read
Istanbul has long been on my list of dream cities to visit. So when the day finally came when we booked our 15 hour + flights across the pond, I've been reading, researching and daydreaming ever since. Turkey is an interesting country, in that it's really situated between two worlds -- Europe and Asia. Any guidebook you pick up will throw out phrases like "Paris of the East" or "gateway between east and west" and as cliche as it sounds, it's actually quite palpable while you're walking around the city.
There's an undeniable European flair with the architecture and bustling cobblestone city streets while at the same time, 5 times a day, you can hear the melodic call to prayer trill through the city at any of the many mosques situated on top of their many hills. I loved seeing the two worlds, conservative and modern, both collide and coexist in such a beautiful way. It really is mesmerizing.
While we had about 6 days in the city, I have to say I only really got a taste of everything Istanbul has to offer -- all the more reason to return soon, right? Here's a rundown of my personal highlights from this portion of our trip:
1. Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya: These two must-sees are situated right next to each other, but you definitely should give each a few hours to really experience properly. The Blue Mosque was my first time actually entering a mosque at all and I was in complete awe of the dome architecture and the tile work. Plus, we opted to stay in the visitor section during the prayer hour, which was amazing to witness in person. The Aya Sofya and it's mosaic work and large scale medallions with different verses and names from the Quran had me entranced.
2. Topkapi Palace: Before landing in Istanbul, one of my must-sees included the Harem, which is situated in the sprawling Topkapi Palace, once inhabited by sultans and their families. The floor to ceiling tile work is absolutely breathtaking here. I didn't want to leave.
3. Grand Bazaar: Definitely worth setting aside a few hours for this, as it's easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the many shops here. We had fun poking around the different Turkish carpet shops and eyeing some jewelry but ultimately ended up stocking up on Turkish Delight.
4. Spice Bazaar: Right next to the Grand Bazaar, I have to say this was my favorite of the two. It felt a lot more local as more families were roaming around, as opposed to tourists and I loaded up on different teas and spices here to enjoy back at home.
5. Hamam: I can't recommend this enough! Hamams are a traditional Turkish bath experience, where you go through a series of different hot, sauna-like rooms, alternating between cold and hot water to cleanse before being washed down and massaged by one of their bath attendants. I literally left feeling so relaxed and glowing.
6. Turkish Towels: There are shops all over the city selling Turkish towels and I may have picked up more than my fair share throughout the trip. They're perfect as actual towels but also large enough to double as picnic blankets, beach towels and even blanket throws on your bed.
7. Turkish Cats: Personally, I loved spotted all the cats around the city, roaming the streets like they owned the town. (And they kind of do!)
8. Bosphorous Cruise: While it is a bit of a tourist trap, I have to say this is the best way to experience the Bosporous, especially at sunset.
9. Turkish Tea + Coffee: We were expecting to drink way more Turkish coffee, but the tea actually became much more part of our every day routine. We stopped off at little tea houses every chance we could. I loved it so much I picked up a bag of Turkish tea leaves at the Spice Bazaar before heading home.
10. Galata Bride at sunset: Istanbul has numerous bridges that close the gap between the European and Asian sides, but the Galata Bridge at sunset has to be my favorite. It's lined with fishermen at all hours of the day and has some fantastic views of the Yeni Mosque and the Rustem Pasa Mosque.
11. Serdar-I Ekrem: This suggestion came from a reader on Instagram and I'm so glad I ventured here! I have to say, if I had to pick a neighborhood to live in Instanbul, I loved this area. Between the artisan shops and boutiques, adorable cafes and tucked away alleys, it felt very West Village meets Pacific Heights.
12. Whirling Dervishes: I've seen numerous photos of the Whirling Dervish ritual so it was such a treat to actually experience it in person. It's a spiritual performance, in which the dervishes spin countless times in unison, the idea being to bring them closer to God. To say it was mesmerizing, would be an understatement.
Stay tuned for the second part of our trip, Cappadocia, coming up next week! As for the outfit shots above, check them out in full detail here and here.

i’ll have what she’s having {parisian fall}

< 1 minute
When I was putting this collage together, all I could think of was this shirt. I mean, that really is the age old question for a lot of women, isn't it? While I don't own said shirt (yet) I am contemplating picking up this book by Caroline de Maigret so I can see what I've been doing wrong all these years.
Fun fact: I am part French, but have never really felt French. Le sigh. In the meantime, any of the pieces above will hold me over, especially that hat and those boots. Merci beaucoup!

what’s in my bag {weekender edition}

3 minute read
Ah, this week has been an intense one with lots of back to back photo shoots at work and some late night prep sessions. All the more reason to pack up my bags (again) for a quick little getaway to LA this weekend. Surprisingly, for how close LA really is to SF, I don't make it down quite as often as I'd like. I'm looking forward to some quality beach time with friends, my first ever surf lesson (wish me luck!) and a fun little project that's in the works -- more on that soon!
In the meantime, I'm continuing the momentum from Wednesday's "What's in my work bag" post with a follow up. This time we're taking a peek inside my weekender bag. Here's how to skip town, when you've only just booked your flight a few hours before...
Beach reading material: I limit myself to two magazines for quick trips like this. One that's more dense in content (like Monocle, which I love) and one more fashion related for easy beach flipping.
COVERGIRL Clump Crusher Mascara: For weekends that I just really want to getaway and unwind, I don't like to bog myself down with an excessive makeup routine (plus, it's great for your skin to just take a break every once in a while). Mascara always makes the cut though. If I go light on everything else, I love playing up my eyes and this one by COVERGIRL is quickly becoming an MVP in the rotation. The curved brush has very precise bristles that lets you load up on volume, minus the whole clump part.
La Roche Posay Moisturizer + SPF: I was recently introduced to La Roche Possay and am hooked on their entire skin care line. This moisturizer + SPF is a daily go-to, especially for my beach time ahead. It's light and non-greasy, which is perfect for me since my skin is oil-prone.
Diptyque "Vetyverio": Most days, I like to rotate through several different scents, depending on my mood and the day's activities. For a beach getaway like this, "Vetyverio" fits the bill -- it's light, airy and slightly woody, which seems quite apropos for sunny, surf-filled days.

Dermalogica face mask: After spending a lot of time in the sun lately, I've been making more of a point to set aside dedicated facial mask time.

Aesop hand + body balm: Well, I never really leave the house without these. Plus, I love how they smell combined with my Diptyque scent.

Crest 3D Whitening Strips: Throwing a few of these in my beach bag so I can throw them on while I work on my tan. Multi-tasker over here!

Cuyana travel cases: My friend Heather recently picked up some Cuyana travel cases for our trip to Turkey and I have to admit, I was so envious of her set the entire time that the minute we touched back down in SF, I promptly picked up a set of my own.

Third Love separates: While most of my bag is pretty laid back (read: lots of bathing suits and cover ups), I love bringing along little luxuries like this lacy number from Third Love. It just elevates casual separates, especially a slouchy tank.

what’s in my bag {work edition}

3 minute read
When you have a two hour, one way commute to work every day like I do, a well packed work bag becomes your lifeline. Over the course of the past few years and some unavoidable trial and error, I like to think I've perfected mine with the right amount of productive necessities and little luxuries that make my trek to Silicon Valley a lot less trek-like. Here's what I'm packing in my arsenal:
Pressed Juicery + Luna Bars: Most mornings, it's pretty unlikely I'll have time to sit down and enjoy breakfast, so I love being able to grab a Pressed Juicery juice and just go (more like run) to the shuttle stop. I usually reserve my Luna Bar for the return trip home -- they're so sweet, they're like little candy bar treats -- so they're the perfect indulgence and blood sugar boost I need to power through some end of day emails.
Daniel Wellington watch: A classic watch goes far. I love how this particular style instantly adds a bit more polish to an outfit so if I happen to forget accessories for the day, I know I can rely on this guy.
COVERGIRL Tru Blend foundation: My days run into overtime pretty quickly, with jam packed meetings and late happy hours back in San Francisco with coworkers. For that reason, I love make up routines that I can easily incorporate into my day, especially on the go. This COVERGIRL foundation provides a soft, natural finish that blends with my skin easily. Plus, it's oil-free so it won't clog my pores, a win, win in my book.
Sunglasses: Because, well, I would feel naked without them.
Laptop + earbuds + phone + tech accessories: You know, the usual suspects. The lighter, the better. The day I got my MacBook Air, I may have done a little happy dance.
Reading material: For the times I forget to recharge my computer (which is often), I try to always have a few magazines or books on hand.
Crest 3D White Strips: A few years back, my dentist talked me into trying some in-office bleaching treatments (I guess I couldn't hide my coffee habit from him, surprise, surprise). I loved the results, but since then have been searching high and low for a less time intensive and more budget friendly option. A few of my coworkers have been trying out some at home treatments so I've been eager to test out Crest's whitening strips, especially since they're easy enough to throw on while I'm catching up on emails on the bus. Thus far, I'm a fan and have already received a few unsolicited compliments from people (always the best feeling!).
Notebook: I think this may have something to do with my previous life as a newspaper reporter, but I feel a bit lost if I don't have a notebook with me to quickly jot down ideas, quotes, someone's name that I need to follow up with about something, or sometimes even just sketch or two.
And that's it! What do you pack in your work bag that helps you tackle the day?

From here on out, I'm going to try my best to always cap off my vacations with dedicated Lounge time, with a capital L. After trekking all over Istanbul and adventuring around Cappadocia, Bodrum was a welcome respite where we got lost in a book or two (OK, maybe 4)  and sipped one too many fruity cocktails on the beach, our only concern being to make sure we applied sunscreen every hour, on the hour.
Plus, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad bit excited to test drive this Mikoh swimsuit out. I've never been much of a one piece gal so I love how this design throws a traditional swimsuit for a loop. In case you're looking for a little extra lounge time before summer leaves us for good, here are a few of my other favorites...

a day at the polo fields

Although I'm still going through some serious vacation withdrawals after returning from Turkey last week, I have to admit, there's something so sweet about coming home to the Bay Area, especially this time of year when our late blooming Indian summer really kicks in. The city just takes on this magical glow -- the fog burns away a bit faster in the mornings, our beaches actually beckon you to venture out in a bathing suit and wine country calls your name (just a bit louder than usual).
The only way to sweeten the deal really, is when the gracious St. Regis crew invites you out for their inaugural polo cup tournament in Sonoma, which is exactly what I did this past weekend. And let me just say, I think my jet lag has met it's match! We sipped plenty of delicious local wines, participated in my first divot stomp and enjoyed an almost too perfect sunset before our alfresco dinner at Hamel Family Wines (where these photos were taken). Huge thanks again to the St. Regis team for having me -- this weekend was the perfect homecoming treat.

far, far away

What I loved, and probably what fascinated me most about our trip, were the moments that left us feeling worlds away from home. When we landed in Cappadocia, I knew we'd be in for exactly that. Cappadocia is smack dab in the middle of Turkey and drastically different from Istanbul -- where Istanbul is a sprawling, bustling and loud city, almost bursting at the seams with activity, Cappadocia is much more remote with an austere, surreal beauty to it. The valley is sprinkled with volcanic peaks, a lot of which were originally homes, town centers and temples years ago -- you can even spot an occasional window or doorway while hiking around. It's as if you're wandering through an expansive ghost town of cave dwellings.
Heather and I decided to trek out on our own for an afternoon hike and ultimately ended up battling a steep climb at the end. With me in ankle boots and her in sandal slides no less, we were certainly happy to see the view once we got up top. Absolutely breathtaking and oh, so worth it.
More to come on Cappadocia (and the rest of our trip) next week in my three-part Turkey travel series. Stay tuned!

whirling

As I'm writing this, we're getting ready for our final night in Istanbul. Almost three weeks, four bags between us and countless flights later, we've hopped all over Turkey and I'm so sad to see it end. We've been planning this trip for what feels like forever now and I'm actually quite proud of everything we managed to fit in -- and yet, I still feel like we only really got a small taste of everything Turkey has to offer. There's so much more I'd love to experience and see and do here -- which of course, is all the more reason for a return trip.
When we were initially planning out a rough itinerary for the trip, one of my first must-sees was a whirling dervish performance, which I'm happy to report we squeezed in! It was a wildly dizzying (but enchanting) experience -- highly recommend if you're traveling through the area.
