I'm excited to announce that this Saturday, I'll be covering the backstage happenings at Prabal Gurung's Spring/Summer 2013 show (!!) alongside my good friends Heather and Alicia. Being a longtime fan of Prabal's work (case in point, see here and here) I can't wait to get a sneak peek at the madness that ensues behind the curtain before the show begins. Make sure you tune in for all my Twitter and Instagram updates at 10 a.m. EST and if you can't wait to see all the full looks (let's admit it, who wants to wait?) you can peep the collection live starting at 12 noon EST on the Prabal Gurung Facebook page.
To prepare for the big day -- and trust me -- preparations are in order, we had the amazing opportunity earlier this week to stop by Prabal's new office in the Garment district to partake in, what else, but a little dress up. (I might need someone to pinch me again, here). Be sure to check out how Heather and Alicia style their looks as well!
And to top this all off (yes, there's more) -- you can snag some Prabal for yourself! Like my look on Facebook here for a chance to win my t-shirt.
There's a very good chance this song might be stuck in my head now -- quite apropos for the long weekend ahead, no? Which reminds me, happy (almost) weekend, friends!
Top: Zara; Pants: J. Crew (similar style here); Shoes: Isabel Marant; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Sunglasses: Karen Walker; Jewelry: Zara rhinestone necklace, J. Crew cobalt chain necklace
Most evenings, right after work, I'm usually pretty beat (an hour and a half commute will do that to you sometimes!), but yesterday, we had one of those lingering, drawn out sunsets -- I just couldn't resist! With the end of summer upon us, I gave into the impulse and took a quick detour en route home to stroll through Golden Gate Park -- even discovered a new-to-me rose garden along the way.
Which leads me to my next question: how are you relishing the end of your summer? Any fun plans or last hurrahs?
Jacket: Old Navy (similar style here); Dress: Zara, worn as a top (similar style here); Pants: Club Monaco (similar style here); Shoes: Prada; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Jewelry: Michael Kors watch
This dress never fails to make me feel extremely feminine (I think the full skirt of tulle layers might have something to do with it) -- throw in my favorite flowers, a surprise gift from the man friend right before these photos were snapped -- and I'm set.
How was your weekend, lovelies? Any fun adventures?
Shirt: Rodarte for Opening Ceremony; Skirt: Jaeger (first worn here); Shoes: B. Brian Atwood c/o; Clutch: Kate Spade (also love this quirky one); Sunglasses: Karen Walker; Jewelry: Jewel Mint earrings
While I was not a fan of the second installment of the "Sex and the City" movie series for too many reasons I won't go into now -- I was (and am still) quite smitten with this outfit that Carrie wore to the market or souq in Abu Dhabi. Whimsy but still semi-grounded with a casual tee -- perfectly Carrie and perfect for my own day of casual shopping. Not at a souq mind you, but trust me, it's on my travel bucket-list.
You may remember my first foray into the overall territory a few months back (but fret not, a refresher can be found here!). And lately, well, I can't seem to get enough of them. They're just too easy to throw on with some heels and funky jewelry (or in this case, fringe!) and call it a day.
Some of my favorite outfit moments really are pretty simple when you boil them down. Case in point? As much as I love a good printed pant suit or a flared hem pencil skirt, I'm really a sucker for a classic white tee and jeans, as evidenced here, here and oh, I dunno, here. The key ingredient, of course, is a fun pair of shoes to spice things up a bit -- another (obvious) weakness of mine.
So when Sole Society, a new shoe membership site, approached me to style up my favorite pair, the easy part was saying yes, the difficult part was choosing just one! Introducing a new cute, on-trend shoe every day to its members, there's always something fresh to discover on Sole Society (not to mention the prices are incredibly affordable at about $50 a pair). You can shop some of my other top picks here and should the mood strike you, be sure to enter the code TTT15 for $15 off your first order! (Please note: this code is valid only for US orders and expires on 9/30.)
I finally decided to give floral crowns a shot and you know what, I don't think I could have picked a better concert to wear it for. After all, if you're going to San Francisco...
Jacket: Old Navy (similar style here); Shirt: Maje; Shorts: Levis (similar style here); Boots: Hunter; Sunglasses: $5 score from one of the concert vendors! (similar style here); Jewelry: Zara rhinestone necklace, Emerson Made medallion necklace
While I didn't get a chance to check out day one of Outside Lands this past weekend (had to work!), days two and three certainly made up for it! Highlights include (but certainly are not limited to): finally getting to see local SF band, Geographer play, the most amazing truffle oil fries, witnessing my first (and probably only) Metallica concert and an amazing finale set by Stevie Wonder himself.
Second outfit: Jacket: Zara; Skirt: Topshop; Top: Zara; Bag: borrowed from Brahmin; Shoes: Zara
Nothing really embodies the start of fall like a new bag, no? So when Brahmin asked me to pick a few of my favorites from their fall 2012 collection to borrow -- I happily obliged. After all, I'm certainly not one to turn down an excuse to dress up. Of course, this begs the question though: what would you guys pick from their new line? Any show stoppers I overlooked? Do share!
When in doubt, sometimes it's best to just go with a few basics -- a men's white button front shirt, leather pencil skirt and kitten heels (bonus points for studs!).
Dress: Zara (similar style here); Bag: Kate Spade (now obsessed with this clutch); Shoes: Zara; Sunglasses: Karen Walker; Jewelry: Zara (similar style here)
I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I was very much under the influence of this outfit pin, from this fashion week darling when putting this outfit together. It just worked. And then I was out the door. Love it when that happens.
Don't get me wrong, I love shopping around Union Square -- but I also love escaping the crowds and hopping over to Maiden Lane just as much. It's tucked away from a lot of the tourist-run hustle and bustle and boasts a charming al fresco cafe, usually with a string quartet playing nearby. Quite the breath of fresh air after battling the cable car lines just two steps away -- a little retail retreat, if you will.
Where are some of your favorite mini escape spots in your city?
Don't get me wrong -- I love these dog days of summer when every weekend is planned out for camping, visiting friends or road trips out to ranch weddings and the day itself just seems to drag well on into the evening, perfect for a late dinner and drink rendezvous. But I still get giddy for the coming of fall. Crisp air. Shorter days. The promise of holidays right around the corner. And fall wardrobe shopping. Of course, when Club Monaco tapped me to pick out a few fall favorites from their August collection, which you can see here, I was beyond happy to do so. Their relaxed yet sophisticated city vibe has always resonated well with my style and this fall collection in particular makes for the perfect foundation for fall dressing. Think trench coats with leather touches. Full skirted shirt dresses. And lots of patterned separates that are begging to be mixed, matched or worn together for a little extra oomph.
Check out the rest of my outfits and my other fellow style muses on Club Monaco here -- and would love to know, what would you pick from the August collection? Let me know in the comments below!
For the record, this was the very first dress I threw in my suitcase the second I started packing for Miami. Neoprene bright floral frock? Definite no-brainer.
In honor of the weekend now upon us (three cheers!), I wanted to share a look from this past weekend. Fresh off the heels from the Miami heat, it was a bit shocking to actually have to wear longer sleeves back in SF -- but I'l admit, I'm a wimp when it comes to humidity so I was secretly rejoicing. This skirt, thanks to Banana Republic, is currently on my weekend to weekday rotation list -- stay tuned to see how I style it for the office next week! But let's not get ahead of ourselves here -- weekend plans, whose got em? Spill!
Being in Miami for Swim Fashion Week with a group of other bloggers makes it nearly impossible not to sneak in some good quality retail therapy time. And luckily for us, the lovely folks at Bal Harbour Shops invited us to get a taste of just what retail therapy means in Miami. My takeaway? Island oasis meets NYC's Meatpacking district -- Lanvin, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, and that's just the beginning. Between the beautiful tropical greenery, the cool breeze coming in straight from the ocean nearby and shoe sale after shoe sale, I left a very happy girl (can you blame me?)! Huge thank you to Bal Harbour for hosting us for the afternoon and to you dear readers, stay tuned next week to see what pair of shoes I scooped up! (Hint: you can peek a few of the contenders here and here.)
Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of Miami is the mash up of art deco and neon everywhere you look. On this particular day, spent in South Beach, we wandered around admiring the pastel-painted boutique hotels with hot pink neon signs and I suppose I took some subconscious sartorial cues along the way. Classic and understated up top? Check. An obnoxious colorblocked party on my feet? Check!
All photos by Karla Garcia (had so much fun hanging out with you!).
Peplum: J. Crew (love this floral peplum top too); Collared shirt: J. Crew (similar style here); Jeans: c/o Paige; Shoes: Zara; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Sunglasses: Karen Walker; Jewelry: Forever 21 rhinestone collar necklace, Michael Kors watch; T-Rex with flamingo friends c/o Google
Special thanks to Paulette for snapping my photos!
While I sift through the many photos from Miami Swim Fashion Week, please enjoy this more casual office look, in which I took two of my current closet staples (a printed peplum top and a cotton twill collared shirt) and layered them. I know, not exactly rocket science over here but hey, I was pretty pleased with the outcome!
And something tells me my new friend behind me here liked it, too!
As promised, here's what I wore for the first day of our Miami Swim Fashion Week festivities -- big thanks to the lovely Olivia for snapping these photos for me!
Perhaps what I love most about summer is how energized it can make you feel to check things off your must-try lists. For me, that means a lot of exploring around San Francisco, in which, I fully embrace playing "tourist." Yes, after living here for over two years now, my first cable car experience was only a mere few weeks ago. (The line always looks too long -- but definitely was well worth the wait!). That said, when Refinery29 and Sunglass Hut asked me to share a bit of my San Francisco summer, I was more than happy to let them (and you!) in on my escapades. Click on over to Refinery29 to see my whirlwind SF tour and, of course, my trusty sunglass rotation that hasn't left my side since!
