Don't get me wrong, I love shopping around Union Square -- but I also love escaping the crowds and hopping over to Maiden Lane just as much. It's tucked away from a lot of the tourist-run hustle and bustle and boasts a charming al fresco cafe, usually with a string quartet playing nearby. Quite the breath of fresh air after battling the cable car lines just two steps away -- a little retail retreat, if you will.

I love sneaking into the local bookstore after shopping at the Troy Farmers' Market on Saturdays. The market gets so busy, colorful and delicious smelling; the bookstore is a welcome respite, always cool and quietly interesting.

I love Maiden Lane! My grandma and sisters and I make a trip to SF every summer, and it's one of our favorite places in the city. Once, we were in Nordstrom, and a woman working in the shoe department said that she had never even heard of it. We were pretty shocked and told her to go see it asap!

couldn't agree more! sadly in Glasgow you really do need to be in the centre for the good shopping but there is a wonderful area in the west end for cafe's and drinks which is a haven. Have you ever been to the UK?
