Are you all avid Spotify listeners?

I usually have some playlist on Spotify playing all day while I work, so I was both excited and perhaps somewhat concerned just how much data a company like Spotify has regarding my musical tastes when the Spotify Wrapped lists came out yesterday. An end of year round up of all the songs that allowed us to cry, express our rage and wallow in a shallow pool of anxiety mixed with existential dread (kidding -- to a degree) -- over the course of the 72 months of 2020.

My two big takeaways? I learned about a new genre that is apparently among my top 5: "Adult Standard" -- a North American radio format heard primarily on AM or class A FM stations. Adult standard is aimed at "mature" adults, meaning mainly those people over 50 years of age, but it is mostly targeted for senior citizens. Sometimes also called "mellow gold" and "nostalgia format" and includes the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peggy Lee, Judy Garland -- you get the picture. My old soul has never felt so seen.

The second? I really love Nina Simone. I'm pretty sure she's all I listened to through June and July, which would account for my minute count being so high for her.

What was on your Spotify Wrapped list? Any fun takeaways?
