First things first, happy International Women's Day!
Furthermore, happy Women's History Month! I don't know about you, but I don't recall focusing on Women's History Month in school, so I'm really happy it's been gaining momentum, in light of everything going on in the world right now.
Secondly, I wanted to round up an easy to navigate list, of events and ways to participate today. Whether you're at work or can possibly sneak away for a few events today/tonight, there's a bunch of ways to get involved today -- big or small.
- Wear purple: Hopefully, I'm catching you as you're getting your outfit ready for the day, but make sure you sport some purple today, be it a blouse, a dress, your coat, heck, even your nails. Personally, I don't own much purple (hanging my head in shame), but I will be toting this Olympia Le-Tan Susan Sontag book clutch, which has a dash of it -- not to mention she's one of my favorite female authors.
- Events in your area: Let it suffice to say, there's no shortage of events going on today -- look up local ones in your area by using the International Women's Day official event locator. I've already peeked at New York, and there's a great lineup.
- Start conversations: This one is incredibly important -- as the only way movements keep and gain momentum, is for us to keep them in the forefront of our lives, by discussing and addressing the issues head on. Gather a few of your coworkers, male and female, today and kick the lunch time discussion off by listening to or reading some women's rights literature. I'll be tuning in for this Ted Talk from the Global Fund for Women CEO and President Dr. Musimbi Kanyoro at 11am EST. Google just launched this video highlighting top search trends around women -- a great discussion starting point. Or make a pledge to yourself and how you'll #PressForProgress this year.
- Donate: Lastly, so many of these great organizations making strides in the fight for gender equality could use our donations. Here's a handy list of women's rights focused groups, organized by specialty, who are all working hard to push for legislation and reform to make gender equality a reality in our lifetime.

5. And for all my New Yorkers today, if you have a spare moment to take a walk, make sure to check out all 6 female historical figure statues in the city today. Old Navy has gone ahead and installed beautiful floral arrangements for each one. They are as follows:
- Eleanor Roosevelt at 72nd and Riverside Drive
- Gertrude Stein at the southeast side of Bryan Park
- Golda Meir at 39th and Broadway
- Harriet Tubman at 122nd and Frederick Douglass Blvd.
- Joan of Arc at 93rd and Riverside Drive
- Fearless Girl and the Charging Bull who will don a boutonniere to acknowledge her impact at Trinity Plaza
By the way, I’m digging this look on you!

[…] My Olympia Le-Tan clutches: You all know I have a soft spot for kitschy accessories — especially ones that look like my favorite book titles! Olympia Le-Tan has been a longtime obsession of mine ever since I snagged one of her clutches on MAJOR sale at a favorite consignment shop of mine in San Francisco. From that point on, it’s been a treasure hunt of sorts for me, looking for her clutches in sale sections online and in vintage stores. Plus, I love how well they store on my book shelves, blending in seamlessly with my other books. […]
