When was the last time you wore a denim skirt?

I'll admit, denim skirts and I have taken several breaks when it comes to our relationship. But that's the beauty of an understated classic -- it usually holds its ground when it comes to closet staying power, despite some of the overly distressed and low slung ups and downs. So what's new this time? Denim skirts these days, are getting a bit of a more polished update and I, for one, am all for it. Think higher waisted, more vintage washes (sans unnecessary distressing) and more relaxed fits (gone are the days of uber tiny, no wiggle room skirts).

As of writing this, I've accumulated my fair share of denim skirts -- 4 to be exact -- all from Express (hey, when the price point is under $40, you stock up, right?). And it's been the perfect transitional denim piece in my rotation lately, especially for these hot, dog days of summer when just the thought of full length jeans sends you into uncomfortable sweat territory and cut off shorts may not fly at the office. Lately, my go -to uniform has involved a denim skirt (either a crisp white or dark denim, like the one you see here), with a comfortable, but still polished t-shirt (think classic stripes), with some low block heels or flats -- perfect for grabbing coffee in the morning, comfortable enough for walking Elvis in the afternoon and pulled together enough with an oversized blazer and fun accessories for meetings and/or evening drinks.

Speaking of Elvis, a lot of you have been loving his little Insta Story morning feature, where I basically film his little booty walking down the street in time with some music -- and I just wanted to say thank you for sending all your song requests in! A lot of you were also curious what I actually wear when I'm walking him around the neighborhood. To be honest, it all really depends on the time of day (he gets walked pretty often, starting as early as 6:30am when I wake up and as late as 1am, or whenever I'm getting back in for the evening), so I'll usually stay in whatever outfit I happen to be wearing at that time. This means, I've had some interesting moments in black tie attire (I live next door to a police station, so all the cops there get a kick out of my crazy outfits when I walk Elvis). Generally speaking, our morning walks are the longest so I tend to reach for a comfortable sun dress or a denim skirt and silk cami, bonus points if I can match Elvis somehow (black, white and a pop of red!).

Are you guys into denim skirts lately? Would you like to see a roundup of different ways to style a denim skirt?
