Being in Miami for Swim Fashion Week with a group of other bloggers makes it nearly impossible not to sneak in some good quality retail therapy time. And luckily for us, the lovely folks at Bal Harbour Shops invited us to get a taste of just what retail therapy means in Miami. My takeaway? Island oasis meets NYC's Meatpacking district -- Lanvin, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, and that's just the beginning. Between the beautiful tropical greenery, the cool breeze coming in straight from the ocean nearby and shoe sale after shoe sale, I left a very happy girl (can you blame me?)! Huge thank you to Bal Harbour for hosting us for the afternoon and to you dear readers, stay tuned next week to see what pair of shoes I scooped up! (Hint: you can peek a few of the contenders here and here.)

Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of Miami is the mash up of art deco and neon everywhere you look. On this particular day, spent in South Beach, we wandered around admiring the pastel-painted boutique hotels with hot pink neon signs and I suppose I took some subconscious sartorial cues along the way. Classic and understated up top? Check. An obnoxious colorblocked party on my feet? Check!

collared // peplum

Peplum: J. Crew (love this floral peplum top too); Collared shirt: J. Crew (similar style here); Jeans: c/o Paige; Shoes: Zara; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Sunglasses: Karen Walker; Jewelry: Forever 21 rhinestone collar necklace, Michael Kors watch; T-Rex with flamingo friends c/o Google
Special thanks to Paulette for snapping my photos!
While I sift through the many photos from Miami Swim Fashion Week, please enjoy this more casual office look, in which I took two of my current closet staples (a printed peplum top and a cotton twill collared shirt) and layered them. I know, not exactly rocket science over here but hey, I was pretty pleased with the outcome!
And something tells me my new friend behind me here liked it, too!

miami swim fashion week {day 1}

2 minute read
As some of you may know from whisperings on Twitter, I'm currently in Miami (my first time here!) with Socialyte for Miami Swim Fashion Week. After flying in on a red eye from San Francisco yesterday and arriving at the oasis-like Sofitel Hotel, it's been a whirlwind of hanging out with blogging friends (new and old), tackling the humidity and enjoying some seriously breathtaking beach views. (San Francisco beaches, I love you, but Miami takes the cake on this one.)
Speaking of breathtaking views, our first order of business was stopping off at the brunch you see above at the Soho Beach House, hosted by the lovely folks at Bal Harbour Shops. It was a great way to unwind after a long string of flights (hello champagne cocktails!) and meet some local Miami bloggers. Plus, after chatting with Cheryl Stephenson, director of marketing for Bal Harbour Shops, about the namesake magazine you see above, I'm convinced she has one of the most enviable jobs around. (The editorial spreads alone are incredible.)  Of course, I can't wait to check out their shops later this weekend, which Cheryl assured me herself, there will be plenty of shoe stores to hold me over. For more information and updates about Bal Harbour Shops, you can sign up for their newsletter here.
Coming up? Stay tuned to see what I wore to the brunch!

if you’re going to San Francisco

Talk about one of the most beautiful Saturday's in the Panhandle I've ever seen. Loved it! Took a nice, quick walk over there and napped out on the lawn, amidst frisbee players, dog walkers and the occasional bicyclist.

As for the Panama hat, let's just say I'll be overdosing on this thing while my bangs grow out. Yes, the bangs are going, I think. I've had them for over two years now and am tired of having to constantly get them trimmed for sweep them off my face. What say all of you? Keep the bangs or no?

Hat: Straw panama hat, H&M
Shirt: White button down oxford shirt, H&M
Skirt: Black velvet mini skirt, H&M
Shoes: Black wedges, Aldo
Jewelry: Turquoise multi-tiered necklace, Urban Outfitters

Look ma, I’m a model (not really)

What a night. Too many shots of tequilla + Steve Madden gladiator heels + rad music = a good time. Thanks to all who showed up! And thanks to Jessica Schneider and all the other designers who helped put on an awesome event.
