Anxiously awaiting spring and apparently so is my Buddah. Don't you just dig his pineapple sunglasses?
Toothpaste that's almost too pretty to use. Now if only the rest of my personal care items would follow suit (ahem, deodorant, I'm looking at you!).
We played more than our fair share of Scrabble while up at Lake Tahoe this past weekend. It's amazing how a little wine can make you think of much more creative words (or so it seemed at the time anyway). 🙂
A hearty (and late) breakfast up at the cabin. I was in charge of making the chocolate chip pancakes and the man friend was on bacon patrol.
I've been itching to try out the wedge sneaker trend for a while now but wasn't entirely sold it would look that great on me unless I was much, much taller. So when Sam posted her great wedge sneaker find at Target for only $35, I figured I'd give it a go. The jury is still out as to whether or not I'll keep them in regular rotation but look for an outfit post soon!

Cape: J.Crew (old, similar style here); Turtleneck: J.Crew; Pants: c/o James Jeans with a DIY front slit, similar pair here; Shoes: c/o Sigerson Morrison; Necklace: Yochi; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban (borrowed from the man friend); Watch: Michael Kors
Finally got on board with the front slit jean trend -- and I'm not sure why it took me so long! Took some scissors to this pair of jeans that were slightly too long for me (which let's face it, describes most of my jeans) and I'm so tempted to do the same to a few other pairs. Like a modern take on a boot cut jean that still shows off your shoe. Win, win all around.

Spent last weekend up at Lake Tahoe and it was just the recharge I needed. Nearly 60 degree weather up on the slopes at Squaw and a few mean Scrabble matches (with wine in tow) can work wonders, if you ask me.
How was your weekend?

Coming hot off the heels of yesterday's ode to Jil Sander Spring 2012, I bring you what a little late night shopping lead to -- this paisley beauty. And man, am I tempted! Doesn't help that The Outnet is having one of their stop-everything-that-you're-doing-and-open-a-new-tab-in-your-browser sales. Just sayin'...

Jacket: Zara; Dress: 10 Crosby Derek Lam; Shoes: Celine; Veiled beanie: DIY
I bought this birdcage veil months ago and only recently got around to following this tutorial from Honestly WTF. Well, by follow, I mean I had every intention of sewing the veil onto the beanie but since I was technically borrowing it from the man friend, I figured it would be best to tie instead. I'm sure he's relieved to hear that, right Dan? 🙂

The man friend says I have too many "knick knacks." To that I say, "Never enough!" Still trying to find spots for these guys though - so at the moment they're a bit homeless sitting atop one shelf together in our living room.
I don't think I'll ever get tired of french doors. Ever.
Two new favorite shades I picked up over the weekend -- Nars "Schiap" and "Dolce Vita" (which is a great everyday shade).
A newly installed beauty shelf in our bathroom, a mini victory since previously I had everything still packed in a bag that I had to dig through each morning.
Remember this Tiffany's box I posted last week? I present you the lovely gift inside it -- a cheerful little spring tote that just looked so good paired with my lemon centerpiece, I had to snap them together.

third time’s a charm

< 1 minute
Top: American Apparel (similar style here); Skirt: Tibi (same style, different color here); Shoes: Charlotte Olympia; Sunglasses: Karen Walker
These shoes had a funny way of working their way into my life. I remember spotting them at an end of season Neiman Marcus sale last year in Vegas, only to walk away from them because the sticker price was still too high. Flash forward to a few weeks ago, when I stopped by Jeremy's with a few girlfriends, only to see them sitting by themselves on a shelf (looking awfully lonely!). And you know what? I passed. Again. Price was still too high and the size wasn't quite right (you can tell from the photos, they're about a half size too big). Finally, the third try came through -- price was lowered yet again thanks to a great sale and I decided to pull the trigger (and promptly got these shoe inserts to prevent my foot from slipping). Sometimes, you just have to let shoe fate (read: stubbornness) work its magic.

This is one of those particular outfits that doesn't get documented often here on the blog -- it's usually a thrown together combination of this jacket that I wear to death and these boyfriend jeans, as I run out the door for early morning meetings. Usually I opt for heels to elevate the look but figured I would let the lipstick work its magic and slipped on my new Charlotte Olympia flats instead (scored at an unbelievable price at Jeremy's!).

My friend Heather knows my funky taste in home decor all too well-- case in point? She gave me this silver spider accent piece for my birthday and knew I would be thrilled to have a new coffee table prospect. I've enjoyed sneaking him around the apartment for the man friend to find but his main home, thus far has been near this gorgeous Tiffany's box (the content of which will be revealed later this week!).
A go-to snack I've been craving more and more lately: strawberries and blueberries. Makes me feel like spring is right around the corner!
Christening the new apartment with (what else) but white hydrangeas and a recently acquired piece of coral.
While running out the other morning for coffee, I passed the Alice + Olivia store on the way, with this cheeky lipstick print dress catching my eye. Call it fate, impulse or just plain lack of caffeine in my system and hence weaker self control, I nabbed it and took it home. Given that I'm on a ladylike dressing kick lately (as seen here and here) I think this flirty black and white number will be a fun addition to the date night rotation.
Speaking of black and white, I happened to spot myself in print in (wait for it...) Bill Cunningham's "On the Street" Sunday feature for the New York Times (!!!). (I'm in the middle of this grid with this outfit on.) After a few kind tweets from friends letting me know they spotted me, I jumped out of bed in a frenzy to find the nearest news stand. As a coworker mentioned yesterday, I can die a happy woman now.

Considering my closet has been somewhat in shambles since moving, I've been living in these overalls on the weekends. While I'll always be a sucker for more polished looks (like this outfit) there's a fun challenge in dressing up overalls. Granted, for most of this particular day of loading and unloading furniture, I wore my trusty Rodarte shirt, flats and a SF Giants cap -- but come dinner time, I swapped out a few key pieces to feel a bit more pulled together. Confession: I may have taken a tip or two from this gal (but what else is new?).

Ducking into my new magazine haunt, Juicy News SF on Fillmore. I'm in the process of finally recycling some old Vogues/Elles/Harpers and can't wait to stock up on some new eye candy/coffee table fodder. Currently on the wait list for The Gentlewoman
Somehow I just discovered Curve, which is dangerously close to the new apartment. I fell in love with their merchandising and their inventory is so me (i.e. lots of Proenza pieces for me to drool over).
The always charming Clay Theatre on Oscar Sunday. Don't get me wrong, I love IMAX theaters as much as the next gal, but there's something about walking into a theater while someone is out front updating the marquee sign. I see plenty of date nights in my near future here (right, man friend?).
My beautiful friend (and mama-to-be) Katie opening presents at her baby shower this past weekend. One thing is for certain, Diego will be one stylish baby. Congrats again, Katie and Horacio!
Heather and I channeling our inner lemon orchards with a mimosa toast at Katie's baby shower. For the record, we did not coordinate our outfits (I swear!). Birds of a feather, stick together, right? Stay tuned for the full outfit post later this week!

designer crush: jennifer chun

2 minute read
There's nothing I love more than having a trusted girlfriend pass along a new designer they've recently become obsessed with, which is why I enjoy sharing my designer crushes here with you! After all, it's all about paying it forward, right? And today's designer crush -- Jennifer Chun -- is a good one.
I've stalked Jennifer's work from afar for the past few months, so you can imagine my delight when I received a personal invitation to her showroom while I was in town for NYFW. While there was inevitably plenty of dress up to be had (can you blame me when the lookbooks are styled as eye catching as this?), I also loved chatting with Jennifer and picked her brain about how she got started working with Derek Lam and Brian Reyes, what really goes into designing prints from scratch and our common love for turtlenecks as the unsung styling heroes of any wardrobe. I've gathered just a few of my favorite outfits here from both her fall and spring collections and am beyond obsessed with the leather apron on the right in the third row. I know. A leather apron. Quirky, unexpected and yet, so darn cool. Which pretty much sums up why I love her work.
Jennifer, on behalf of San Francisco, please bring your pieces out west! I, for one, would be one happy shopper if you did.
This post was brought to you by the Conrad New York, who asked me to share a highlight from my fashion week trip. Meeting Jennifer was certainly a highlight and I hope we can meet again sometime soon!

in a new york minute

2 minute read
A few favorite moments from NYC, according to my Android 🙂
1.) Each time I head out to New York, I try to make a point to see a Broadway show. This time, Heather, Tara and I caught a matinee showing of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Scar Jo, which was an excellent production. Highly recommend.
2.) An ariel shot of the Conrad Hotel lobby from the 11th floor. Dizzying, no?
3.) Alicia and I ran into Bill Cunningham at Lincoln Center. He called each one of us "child" and my heart melted a bit.
4.) No NYC trip is complete without indulging in a Rubirosa pizza.
5.) What the West Village looked like right after Nemo hit. It was so cute seeing kids out and about playing in the snow.
6.) A grand staircase display at the Conrad Hotel
7.) Playing dress up in some Jennifer Chun pieces -- Unfortunately, I didn't get detailed shots of this dress, but I'm hoping to borrow it again soon to really show it off. The pleat detail in front is killer.
8.) There's breakfast in bed. And then there's lunch in bed. Gotta love room service while lounging in the softest hotel robe ever.
9.) Sigh. Charlotte Olympias. In my size. On sale at Bergdorfs. Had to walk away from them though.
10.) Overlooking the Hudson from my room at the Conrad Hotel in Battery Park.
11.) Digging through the sale section at Opening Ceremony in Soho. This Christopher Kane dress was calling my name (again, had to walk away from it).
12.) A farewell shot of Manhattan before heading to JFK.

While Nemo certainly put a cramp on my NYFW style, I honestly couldn't have asked for a better time. From staying over in Battery Park at the gracious Conrad Hotel to spending time with old and new friends alike, this was probably one of my favorite fashion weeks yet (although, it could be argued, that they're all pretty epic in their own way. It is Fashion Week after all!). The whirlwind trip may be over, but here are a few of my favorite moments...starting with the Kenneth Cole show where the models turned the tables and snapped photos of the audience during their final walk through.
After much internet admiring from afar, I finally had a chance to meet Jennifer Chun, the designer behind her namesake label -- such an incredibly sweet, not to mention, talented woman and I selfishly can't wait until her pieces makes it out to San Francisco! More to come on my studio visit with her soon.
Sultry evening looks from Sachin + Babi. I'm loving the fur top layered over an evening dress.
Trekking around the West Village post-Nemo storm with Heather. You can see the full details of this outfit here.
Lots of beanie babes at the Rebecca Minkoff show.
A sight for sore eyes (and an empty stomach!) after braving the cold -- sweet potato fries!
His and hers: shoe details from the J.Crew presentation.
I couldn't help myself -- had to post this gentleman from the J.Crew presentation. He was smizing with me, after all.
An unstoppable girl crush duo: Ms. Lyons and Ms. Doré. Yep, I was that awkward girl in the back snapping photos of them.
I spy with my little eye...some bejeweled leather gloves also from the J.Crew presentation that I need to get my hands on, er, in! And don't get me started on the grid-printed trousers.
Another look from the Prabal Gurung show that I just can't get out of my head.
Big thanks again to the Conrad Hotel for hosting me!

There's always something undeniably appealing about the J.Crew presentations each season -- from the quirky styling touches (hello leopard baseball cap) to the fresh faced beauty inspiration (I loved all the models full eyebrows and deep red lips) I usually end up leaving with a strong desire to channel my inner Jenna Lyons. My favorite look of the collection? It would have to be geometric print dress with matching elbow length evening gloves (second to last photo). The odd matchy-matchy pairing of it had me at hello, so of course, I made a beeline for it when I first walked in.
Stay tuned for a NYFW recap post tomorrow!

Thanks for all the well wishes for our move! We're just about unpacked and the list of things we'll need to start shopping for has started. First on the list? A headboard. Any good recs? I'm torn between something more regal, like a tufted board or something untraditional (perhaps a cowhide rug as a friend suggested recently?).
On an unrelated note, I'm a bit behind on editing my photos from New York, but you can count on some show photos tomorrow, including my favorites from the J.Crew presentation and my fan girl moment after seeing Jenna Lyons and Garance Doré chat casually off to the side. Talk about major girl crush combo!

A Valentine's Day bouquet from the man friend, which was a welcomed break from the usual white roses I keep on my coffee table. I love the warm coral color of them.
The worst part about moving? Packing up too many pairs of shoes! I like to call this my Leaning Tower of Shoe Boxes, minutes before I packed them all away into my car (not without a puzzled glance or two from passerby!).
An indulgent breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes. Just the fuel I needed before a day full of packing.
A welcomed sight: the blooming of cherry blossoms! Our new neighborhood is riddled with them and I've been snapping pictures of them like crazy since their stay is so fleeting.
A delicious chardonnay that we enjoyed Monday afternoon while watching a few old movies. We've been without internet the past few days, which was the perfect excuse for rediscovering the DVD pile tucked away under my bed.
What my perfect Sunday morning looks like: New York Times, magazines and a pack of almond Pocky.

I wore this for my last (and warmest!) day in New York for the J.Crew presentation. You all know I'm a sucker for black and white and as it turns out, my friend Alicia happened to be sporting it this particular day as well (you can see her look here -- I'm dying over her slouchy leather pants!). She and I thought nothing of it actually until Bill Cunningham came over to where we were chatting and asked us if we had coordinated our monochromatic looks.  I think both of our hearts melted at that exact moment -- definitely one of my favorite highlights of the trip!

When I was getting ready to leave for Fashion Week, the last thing I packed for was an impromptu blizzard. Luckily, we came out on the other end just a bit colder and scared from one hellish cab ride the night it hit so my thoughts go out to anyone who was directly affected. And while my shoes are a bit worse for wear (damn you deceivingly deep puddles at street corners!), you can't beat seeing a snow white New York. The West Village, in particular, just looked magical dusted in snow the next day.

While I bundle up over here in NYC for today's storm (they're calling it snow-mageddon and I'm calling it a spa day), here are a few detail shots from yesterday's Edun presentation. Where do I sign?!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

A much needed catch up session over coffee turned into a little afternoon siesta with cheese and wine. The heart wants what the heart wants, right?
I originally bought these Stella McCartney heels on The Real Real a few months back, with every intention of wearing them out for Christmas parties. They didn't make it out for Christmas though -- so I'm still waiting for the right occasion to debut them. In the meantime, I'm pretty smitten with how they look perched on my antique jewelry box.
A few cheeky sweaters that I'll be bundling myself up in this week (hello Fashion Week and freezing temps!). I already took the leather sleeve beauty for a test drive last week here.
Our spread for the Super Bowl -- cheese plate and a few new, favorite beers. (I'll admit, I may have picked them out for their labels alone -- but they certainly did not disappoint!)
These gold-dipped mugs were a total impulse buy at Starbucks. I walked in wanting a grande iced skinny vanilla latte and walked out with about four of these in hand, which baffled my boyfriend when I met him outside. Oddly enough, he likes them way more than I thought he would, which gives me hope for our "no gold accents in the new apartment debate."
