Most days, my morning meetings start around 8:30 or 9, which makes my morning hustle and commute that much more interesting to pull off (read: with traffic, it generally takes 2.5 hours to get to work). Yikes. This tends to result in a few things.
1.) I'm getting pretty darn efficient at dressing in the dark lately. Good or bad? I'm not sure.
2. ) I rely heavily on a rotation of quirky work dresses that I can mix and match with different heels.
3.) Dry shampoo is a godsend. Day old curls are usually the best anyway, am I right?
4.) Lipstick can work wonders, even if you're still fighting yawns.
5. I'm trying to skip my normal caffeine routine and opting for a green juice of some sort. It's been difficult adjusting but I think I'll end up feeling more energized in the long run.

date night

3 minute read
I have a confession. While I would love to admit the man friend and I have regular date nights out, it's actually pretty tricky for us to pull off. Between both of our work schedules, long commutes and now a puppy (wow, my first world problems), I'm pretty happy just to plan a quiet evening in, making dinner together. But when it does happen? Well, I'd be lying if I didn't admit I love the idea of pulling together a few new flirty separates, throwing on a bright lip and hitting the town. I mean, who doesn't?
I recently partnered with bebe (the mecca for flirty date night dresses) to showcase my date night style. Now, admittedly, I'm not usually one for body con silhouettes, much to my boyfriend's dismay, but I do love how this crop top and pencil skirt combo feels very me. The black and white pairing, the long sleeves and the sliver of skin, in my opinion, are all a nice balance of my personal style with a dash of sex appeal. Let's just say, the man friend approved. And so did I. Win, win.
As for my ideal date night? Last weekend actually sets the bar pretty high, so I'm glad my dear friend Lydia was available to help us capture it. Being the miracle workers that they are, my guys' parents happened get us tickets for The Book of Mormon (which you probably don't need me to tell you, has been sold out for months). I'm a big Broadway show lover and always make a point to catch a performance whenever I'm in New York. My guy, on the other hand, doesn't mesh well with musicals. And he's a musician. Go figure. Luckily, when musicals involve the two creators of South Park, he's on board.
Before heading to the theatre, we popped over to Maiden Lane at Union Square for dinner and drinks. Living in such a foodie town has definitely spoiled us and when we get the chance to head out for dinner, I love researching the best restaurants Lynchburg for us to try out.
On him: Suit: Zara (similar here and here); Shirt: H&M // On her: Top and skirt: Bebe (here and here); Bag: Chanel; Shoes: Valentino; Sunglasses: Celine; Necklace: Gorjana; Lips: Stila "Beso"
And as for the cable cars? Something I'm trying to embrace this year is acting more like a tourist in my own town, especially on our date nights together. It's fun rediscovering your own city and even more so with someone you love.
I'm curious -- what's your ideal date night? Any fun traditions?

the classics

Sweater: J.Crew; Skirt: Balenciaga (love this similar marble print skirt here); Bag: Chanel thanks to Portero's "Find It" service; Shoes: Christian Louboutin; Sunglasses: Celine; Lips: Stila "Beso"
This past weekend, someone asked me just how long I had been blogging. An awkward pause followed because I honestly couldn't remember and soon after I had to do a bit of digging on Blogger to figure it out (answer: coming up on five years, eep!).
During my archive search, I stumbled upon a slew of old outfit posts, some good, some silly and some I wish I could forget (but the internet won't let me, ha, you cruel mistress, you!). There were a lot of experiments (don't regret 'em!), a lot of shoddy DIYs (I'm just awful at DIY and I've finally accepted it) and a lot of fine tuning for what I think is slowly becoming my true style today. I now know what works on my body (and what doesn't!), what I feel best in and what I ultimately want to start investing in since I know I'll have it for years to come. Don't get me wrong, I  do love me a fast trend from time to time (peplum, anyone?) but as I get older, I'm now trying to make more conscious and intentional decisions when it comes to pieces that have staying power. True classics.
As a frequent Chanel bag borrower, long time admirer but never an owner ('always a bridesmaid'...yadda yadda), I've been on a mad hunt for the perfect starter Chanel bag. I knew I wanted something vintage, classic and timeless, perhaps even a bit understated and just right for transitioning from day to evening. Luckily, the folks over at Portero are the bag experts and via their "Find It" service, they introduced me to a small lineup of quilted beauties, each more beautiful than the next. You may remember, I mentioned in this post I was actually more drawn to a 2.55 design, but when Portero suggested this slightly smaller, full flap lambskin one, I loved how refreshing it looked. #GameOver
It's funny -- I always claim to be more of a shoe gal, but this recent turn of events may shake things up a bit. 🙂 Oh, and if you're on the hunt for a bag yourself, check our Portero's video here as to what makes a classic bag, a classic.

Every few months or so, I go through uniform phases that usually revolve around a particular type of item in my closet. You've all seen me abuse my leather jacket, then printed pants with matching blazers were my jam and now, I seem to want to pair a graphic tee or sweater element with everything. This Ily Couture sweater, arguably has served me well (it did help me nab Bill Cunningham's attention after all) and, of course, there's my Rodarte X Opening Ceremony shirt -- but I'm now looking to beef up my collection, particularly to pair with more full midi skirts (like here) and pencil skirts.

When life gives you the opportunity to dress up and don a mask for an evening -- seriously, how can you say no? While this is a bit belated, I wanted to share what I wore for this past New Year's Eve as it was one of my favorites to date. You may have spied on Instagram that the man friend and I headed to the symphony hall here in San Francisco for a masquerade ball to ring in the New Year. Part of what I love so much about evenings like that (aside from the excuse to wear this lace veil-inspired mask) is just how diverse the crowd can be -- young, old, those who waltz and those who rock a mean "Harlem Shake". I'll definitely remember our evening for years to come so thank you, fine folks of San Francisco for reminding me why I love this crazy city so much. And thank you, Dan, for a wonderful night -- I know I've already said it, but here's to 2014!

2014 {salute!}

2 minute read
Dress: Jason Wu (similar style here); Shoes: Konstantina Tzovolou; Sunglasses: Celine; Clutch: Vintage; Lips: Nars "Schiap"
In the spirit of new beginnings (and reflections on the past), I wanted to take a moment today to list out a few of my goals for 2014. Admittedly, I haven't done this ever on the blog before but I routinely do it for work (each quarter actually) and find that it's so effective in keeping things on track, in perspective and at the forefront of everything you do. This past year was incredible and 2014, in all it's shiny, untouchable newness, well, I have a pretty good feeling about you!
1. Spend more time disconnecting. From social media. From work. From distractions. And spending more time in the moment with loved ones.
2. Read more. I really miss having my nose in a book.
3.  Travel. Often. And visit at least one new country this year.
4. Start running again. I'd like to get back to 3 miles a day.
5. Pick up a new musical instrument. Right now, I'm torn between piano and guitar lessons.
6. Redecorate (but if we're being honest, I should say, finish decorating) our apartment.
7. Take time to go on bike rides with the man friend after work.
8. Sign up for dance lessons.
9. Redesign this ol' blog of mine. She could use a little design love, don't ya think?
10. Cook a meal (from scratch, or almost scratch) at least once a week.
What's on your 2014 resolution list?

Hot off the heels of one major holiday and on to the next! As I've mentioned here and here, I'm in big holiday party mode, with a slew (modest slew, mind you) of fêtes on the books for the next week or so. A big theme for me this time around, is looking for the unexpected pieces to wear -- don't get me wrong, I love donning lots of red and sequins this time of year, but sometimes it's fun to throw things off kilter a bit, even if that means pairing separates like a statement pencil skirt with a flirty crop top.
Speaking of statements, a dear friend of mine just launched her own luxury shoe line in her namesake, Konstantina Tzovolou. I'll be remixing a few of my favorites from her spring line over the next few weeks but encourage  you to check out her full line here.  From ankle boots with mesh details to my personal weakness of anything with an ankle strap, there's a little bit of everything to please you discerning shoe enthusiasts, you. 🙂
Looking for more holiday-appropriate separates? Here are a few similar options...

Although San Francisco isn't all too far from my hometown of Reno (roughly a four hour drive really), I don't make it home as often as I would like to visit. Between work and countless other excuses most other 20-somethings undoubtedly make up, I seem to find less and less opportunities to revisit my old stomping grounds and see familiar faces. And it's a shame really! This past holiday visit really made me realize how much I miss my hometown and my family. Sometimes, it's truly makes you realize where you're going when you take a moment to just reflect on where you've been and where you come from -- and cherish those who have supported you through every step in between.
One thing I love doing when I make it back, and something I definitely did on this particular trip, was drive around town with my sister and have her fill me in on everything that's new and what's changed in the neighborhood -- a mini sister road trip of sorts, that inevitably leads to us reminiscing, laughing and sometimes cringing about times past. And somehow, much like getting reacquainted with an old friend that you haven't seen in a long time, you seem to pick up right where you left off.
Personally, there's something so sweet about rediscovering old favorites -- the memories you almost forgot until you sit in the bleachers at your old track and field stadium, the box of old notes from a high school boyfriend still tucked away under your childhood bed, a photo of a vacation your family took years ago. For me, even clothing can trigger an unexpected recall -- especially jeans.
Think about it. We've all been wearing jeans or denim of some sort since grade school and I think we can all likely pin point just how that then-new pair of jeans made us feel at that moment of our lives. I don't know about you, but jean shopping was my highlight of back to school prep.
With this tradition in mind, I'm excited to be partnering with Abercrombie & Fitch this winter season to rediscover just what their denim has meant to me in years past and what it means to me today. Admittedly, Abercrombie was very much a high school and college favorite of mine (confession: I used to work there years ago!), but one that has stayed with me through the years in the form of their denim. My denim collection, while it houses an almost embarrassing amount of newer pairs, also has plenty of older A&F jeans thrown into the mix -- ahem, their distressed flares are distressed to perfection and I refuse to let go of them(!!)
Today, I'm getting reacquainted all over again and am so glad to see nothing has changed. I'm wearing their Super Skinny distressed pair here and the fit and quality is unbeatable -- super snug, cropped just right at the ankle and well, the back pockets and subsequent butt enhancement are definitely man friend approved. Added bonus? They're only $39 ($39!!) through this weekend. At that price, I've already scooped up several pairs and look forward to remixing them for years to come.

I'm actually back home in Reno for the holidays, but we snapped these right before I left town on one of those funny California winter days, where all you need is a leather jacket to throw over your shoulders. But really, let's talk about this dress, shall we? It all started with this gal (per usual), which then lead to a wild internet goose chase to track it down on sale somewhere, anywhere -- I was desperate! Eventually, I gave up hope (it is a leather, tattoo-print dress after all, they don't come around often), until it finally popped on sale and before I could say, "Take that TTH" -- it was in my life! A few alterations later, and we're getting along just splendidly. Might even be a contender for a few holiday parties I have coming up. After all, you all know I love a good midi dress, especially a full-skirted one...
Hope you're all enjoying a relaxing day with your family and as always, thank you for reading!

lazy sunday {at home}

3 minute read
Pajama set: Abercrombie top and bottoms; Bra: Abercrombie; Mug: Starbucks, last year (love this set); Rings: Ver Unica and Elizabeth & James
Since we're all settling into our winter hibernation mode, I thought I'd share a little slice of what our Sundays have been looking like lately. Coffee, cuddles with the pup and lounging around in silk sleepwear (for most of the day) are usually what I look forward to the most, especially as the holiday season starts to wind down. It's really is such a treat to stay cozied up with with loved ones with absolutely nothing to do for the day. I have to admit, it doesn't happen often around these parts (especially since this time of year is extremely busy at work for both the man friend and I) but when it does, I truly cherish it.
And while I've been known to steal pajamas from my boyfriend more than I'd like to admit, I've been stepping up my game lately. I've waxed poetically about pajamas as daytime wear before and now I'm finally seeing the beauty of falling asleep in something comfortable yet luxurious like a satin pajama set. Honestly, I'm not sure what took me so long! Satin is a lovely material and it's so cozy. These new pajamas have encouraged me to look at other comfy options, like those found at LUXURY SILK LIFE. I've heard that silk is even comfier than satin so I'm definitely wanting to try it. Comfort is everything. I'm hooked! Don't get me wrong, I still love a good onesie, particularly the character ones, like these cozy and adorable goat clothes to lounge around in. However, I really feel satin pajamas are not only comfortable but you can still look brilliant in them. I have absolutely fallen in love with them! In honor of that realization, I was excited to shop around the loungewear section at Abercrombie (all of which is 50% off this weekend) to pick out my new Sunday best, just in time for a lot of lazy days spent at home, catching up with family and re-watching A Christmas Story far too many times. I mean, it's not officially Christmas until we're all repeating "You'll shoot your eye out!" Right?
What holiday traditions (and associated holiday lounge attire) do you look forward to the most this time of year?

Hey SF friends! Doing any holiday shopping this weekend? Possibly near Union Square? If so, I'd love for you to join me for a little "one-stop holiday shop" soirée with one of my new favorite San Francisco-based brands, Cuyana. If you're like me (which I've also mentioned in this post), I'm notorious for saving most, if not all, my Christmas shopping until the last minute. (Hey, I guess I just like working under pressure.) Luckily, Cuyana has a little something for everyone on your list -- their weekender bags are perfect for the hard-to-shop-for boyfriend, their cashmere sweaters are just right for Mom and the scarves have your friends' names all over them (not to mention, you'll probably find a few items for yourself along the way).
Plus, there will be mimosas and plenty of Beyonce tunes on hand. Honestly, what more do you need?
The details are:
When: Saturday December 21, 10:30 am - 1 pm (but they're open until 5 pm)

If you've followed my blog for a little while now, you're probably well aware that I love finding great deals -- designer investment pieces at a fraction of their original price tag are my jam in life and I love it when my friends remark, "You always have the best sales luck at {insert name of department store here}. Of course, as any good deal hunter knows, there are the rare few that get away. High up on my regret list? A vintage black caviar leather 2.55 Chanel bag that I had spied last year at a consignment shop here in San Francisco. My reasons for walking away are totally lost on me now -- I likely wanted to "think" about it and understandably that beauty was scooped up soon after. I never even stood a chance!
Luckily, internet karma has a funny way of working itself out and via Portero's new Find it for Me service, I'm now tracking down my elusive big girl dream bag. I simply provided a few details (style, color, material, etc.) to their team of stylists and they started their detective work! I'm beyond excited to see what they've dug up -- so stay tuned. In the meantime, I'm curious -- have any of you guys used their Find it for Me service? Would love to see what you scored!
