erin fetherston s/s 2012

2 minute read

Erin Fetherston's presentation was all about a 60s mod party girl -- flirty mini shift dresses with doses of sequins, lace and a head turning butterfly print. Perhaps my favorite part though was seeing Fetherston join the models herself to direct them from time to time. I love being able to see part of the designer's personality actually in the pieces they design -- and I think Erin Fetherston does it beautifully.

As for my favorite piece? I adore the sleeveless white lace shirt dress seen in the fifth photo! What's your favorite?

Due to some insane running around between shows, snapping outfit photos was a bit of a challenge in New York. Luckily, I ran into a few folks who snapped them for me and thought I would share. Most of these you've seen before (like here and here), but the plaid suit is my favorite. I think I'll have to dedicate another outfit post to it with detail shots.

The 90s were alive and well at Charlotte Ronson. Liberty floral prints, overalls, chokers and how about those striped pants!? Hands down, my favorite piece from the collection.

A vision in white -- recent CFDA nominee Gregory Parkinson delivered quite the ethereal collection of lacey ivory hues that commanded both a ladylike and dreamlike feel. The separates alone (with the amount of detailing on them) blew me away, my favorite being the posey pink short sleeve overcoat in the fourth photo.

Plus, the shoes are the result of a recent collaboration with Manolo Blahnik, that I'm of course, desperately waiting to be released!

Strong 80s vibes abounded at the Nicole Miller show last week. Neon geometric graphics paired with black and white stripes -- very "Saved by the Bell" esque, but in the best way possible!

Note about the third photo: 1.) I love the way this dress straps in the back 2.) Look at Mr. Hamish Bowles looking dapper in the front row there!

Sequins. Laser-cut lace. And lots of chartreuse! The Rebecca Taylor S/S 2012 collection didn't disappoint (with plenty of dresses I certainly wanted to steal off the runway). My favorite look in particular is the first photo -- combining a slouchy sweater with oversized sequins and a flowy silk skirt -- I loved how it was equal parts casual chic as well as glamour. Plus, you all know I'm a sucker for ankle strap heels and I spotted more than a few pairs from this show that I'll try to snag for my closet soon enough.

Spent an afternoon in Soho with the lovely ladies Alicia of Cheetah is the New Black and Helena of Brooklyn Blonde, both long time favorites of mine (and must-reads, if you don't already!) There's something to be said about being able to relate to each other about boyfriend photographers, the need to take pictures of our meals (despite odd onlookers glances) and generally talking blog talk -- and that is: it's incredibly awesome and inspiring! Thanks Alicia and Helena for a lovely afternoon! Stay tuned for some of our shopping loot from the day, which was the result of staying in Topshop for a bit longer than expected.

Have a few shows lined up today (hello Rebecca Taylor and Nicole Miller!). Follow along with me on Twitter, if you like!

Special thanks to Alicia for snapping my outfit pictures!

lucky fabb recap

2 minute read

To say that the Lucky Fabb Conference was unbelievably inspirational would be an understatement. From hanging out with old friends and making new ones to listening to some incredible speakers like Diane von Furstenberg and Rachel Roy, I couldn't have asked for a better day!

I think this quote from Scott Galloway, clinical professor of marketing at NYU, sums it up nicely:

"This is not a blogging conference, you're entrepreneurs with cute shoes."

Touche, sir, touche.

On a side note, I'll be attending the Lucky FABB Conference today listening to the likes of Diane von Furstenberg, Coco Rocha, Kelly of The Glamourai and even a Kardashian (or two!). Want a piece of the fun? Follow along with me on Twitter!

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you know I've been dashing around SF like a mad woman to get ready for NYC this week. This meant a lot of dry cleaning drop offs and pick ups, Walgreens runs (for all the little things I inevitably forget) and some shoe shopping here and there (OK, everywhere). I stuck to a pretty casual uniform (read: skinny jeans, chambray top and a messy top knot) for most of the weekend, so I figured I would share a snapshot of my shoes, waiting to be packed away.

Hold on to your hats, folks. It's going to be a crazy week!

{pretty powerful} winner!

Shirt: Zara (similar style here); Jumpsuit: Zara (similar style here); Shoes: Jessica Simpson; Belt: Gap; Bag: Lodis iPad case; Sunglasses: Karen Walker; Jewelry: Michael Kors watch, H&M necklaces

I have to say it, guys. I am completely blown away. After reading through the many heartfelt comments for the Bobbi Brown Pretty Powerful giveaway that I posted about last week -- I was so incredibly inspired. Needless to say, narrowing down a winner has been a tough decision but I'd like to announce that Courtney of I Can Be Many Things has won the Pretty Powerful makeup palette!

Here's an excerpt of what she wrote about her mom that really resonated with me:

"Mom never shows her emotions, always works works works for others, always appears so strong on the outside. It makes me wonder how she does it. She says her love for us keeps her living, and she does everything for us. Since I'm a Mom I know exactly what she's talking about since there's NOTHING I wouldn't do for my baby. That's what is powerful: the unbreakable bond and borderlineCRAZY love that comes with being a mother!"

Courtney, I'll be emailing you shortly about your prize! Congrats! And huge thank you to everyone who entered! I loved reading through each and every comment!

The lovely folks over at Bobbi Brown have a pretty fabulous campaign going on right now, aptly called "Pretty Powerful," emphasizing how women, all women, are pretty without makeup and with the right makeup, can be pretty powerful at that. I love the concept of this, namely because I tend to remain pretty neutral with my makeup myself (aside from the necessary lip color pop) but also because it's so very true. A little bit always goes a long way, in my book.

Of course, after I got to reading some of the "Pretty Powerful" women stories on their campaign site (I highly recommend you do, too) I got to thinking about some of the pretty powerful women in my life -- my mother being the frontrunner. Always true to herself, my mother is one of my biggest influences. She's always taught me to never be afraid of speaking my mind -- even if I'm standing alone. I'm forever grateful for that.

Giveaway Rules:

Do you have someone in your life who you think is "Pretty Powerful"? I'd love to hear it! One winner will receive an exclusive "Pretty Powerful" makeup palette! To enter, simply:

1.) Tell me about your "Pretty Powerful" person in the comments below. Don't forget to tell me why that person stands out. (Only comments made to this post will be considered as entries.)
2.) Check back later this week when I announce the winner.

That's it! Easy two steps, right? Good luck and looking forward to reading your comments!

Spent a lazy Sunday afternoon at a winery, enjoying a picnic with good friends. I just love those vineyards that are tucked away in rolling California hills where everything just smells so fresh. Coupled by the fact we had added our fresh strawberries and blackberries to every glass of sparkling wine, it was a pretty lovely way to spend a few summer hours doing absolutely nothing at all.

Chambray top: Madewell; Jeans: Nico skinny jeans by Hudson, c/o Hudson; Shoes: Aldo; Sunglasses: Karen Walker; Jewelry: Michael Kors watch, J. Crew chain bracelet, Flea market find necklace ($6!); Lips: Revlon's "Persian Melon"

Do you ever have those denim "aha!" moments? I had mine just this past weekend when I put on this pair of Hudson's you see here. The minute I slipped them on and stuck my hands in my pocket, I knew I wouldn't want to take them off. Just the perfect amount of broken in feeling to them while still looking polished -- which of course made me pull out this other recent denim acquisition, this chambray top from Madewell.

Don't get me wrong, I love getting gussied up Monday through Friday, but come the weekend, I feel equally as glam in my go-to denim pieces. Throw in a few statement jewelry items (like this $6 gold medallion necklace I scored at the Alamo Square Indie Mart) and I'm read to roll, Americana and all.

How was your weekend?

just in: loafer heels for fall

< 1 minute

Marc Jacobs loafer heels (great consignment find!)

After listing some of my ladylike must-haves for fall last week, I started going down a winding rabbit hole to find the perfect pair of library-chic loafer heels. Imagine my delight when I finally stumbled upon these burgundy beauties at one of my favorite consignment haunts, for a fraction of their full retail price (and barely ever worn to boot!)! Of course, along the way, I found some other noteworthy (and fall worthy) pairs, which you can find here, here and, how about, here!

Enjoy your fall shopping!

What summer pieces are you getting ready to layer come fall?

Top: H&M dress worn as a top (similar style here); Skirt: Forever21 (similar style here); Shoes: Asos (similar style here); Bag: Chanel; Sunglasses: Karen Walker; Jewelry: Bee Charming necklace, Michael Kors watch, J. Crew chain bracelet

It's that time again. Time to start scheming up ways to transition some of your summer go-tos for fall. I decided to start with this striped Prada-esque shift dress from H&M that I snagged a few months ago at the height of spring (and the height of color blocking). Thrown under a pencil skirt with some pointed toe court shoes, I think it tones down just enough for a brisk day in San Francisco.
