About once a year, the fashionable folk of San Francisco get absolutely spoiled with the opening of a standout clothing designer exhibit at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. Past years have included exhibits from the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Yves Saint Laurent, with last year's pick going to Balenciaga, where yours truly actually interviewed both Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles (but that's another story for another day). While it may not warrant a Met Gala opening fête (although it really should!) -- I certainly look forward to it every year. 
This year's exhibit? None other than Jean-Paul Gaultier. For those of you who had a chance to see the collection, I think you'll stand behind me when I say the curation and presentation was impecable and extremely vivid in the recounting of a talented designer's life, work and vision. Truly a transportive experience.  Later that same day, I found myself describing the exhibit to my boyfriend -- who politely opted to skip this one -- as nothing short of theatrical and mesmerizing, fitting homage to the work of a true artist.
I've been a long time believer, as I'm sure many of you are as well, that fashion is very much a wearable art form -- one that so aptly captures and expresses the desires, beliefs and aspirations of a moment in time. With that in mind, I took a few cues from current fall trends and traced their lineage back to different art pieces -- complete with ideas as to how you can snag the look for yourself!
