video: i chopped my hair

2 minute read

[row][half]

[/half][half]

[/half][/row]

As many of you probably already saw on Instagram, I recently chopped my hair (about 8 inches actually, even though I state 10 in the video), all of which has been donated to Locks of Love. For my longtime readers here, you may recall the last time I did this in San Francisco several years ago, cutting about a foot of hair off, into a similar wavy long bob, or what I affectionately called my wavy LOB. I remember the process being very cathartic last time and lately I've been craving a change to mix things up around here (probably because I just turned 32!). So, I gave my good friend Andreas a call and the rest is history.

Oh, and for all my New York guys and gals, I cannot recommend Andreas and his salon enough. He's the most patient and thorough hair stylist I've ever worked with (he literally sat through MANY inspiration photos without flinching) and he's SO creative (his editorial styling work is AH-MAZING). PLUS, his dog London greets you at the door. AND, he's just as obsessed with the Royal family as me -- there's a lot of footage from our session of us talking about Princess Diana, who I could talk about for HOURS. I'll stop rambling now, so you can start booking with him. 🙂

HUGE thank you to Andreas for having me last week -- and for making me laugh the entire time!

video: 3 hairstyles for valentine’s day

< 1 minute

I'll admit it -- I love Valentine's Day. Whether I'm in a relationship or not, there's something about celebrating the idea of love that always gets me smiling. Of course, it certainly doesn't hurt that my birthday is a few days later, making for plenty of excuses to get a little extra dolled up this time of year. This Valentine's Day, my plans are a bit in flux as my guy may be heading out of town on the 14th on a work trip, so I'm working out a few last minute details for a girls night out. In the spirit of last minute,  "oh my god, throw something together" moments that seem to sneak up on us all, I figured today's video might be handy for the girls who have the outfit planned out, but the finishing touches are still up in the air.

Full disclosure: I'm not super handy when it comes to styling my hair much outside the "wavy curls" box -- but when Nora shared these three styles with me, they seemed approachable enough even for the hair novices amongst us (like yours truly). Each take about 15 minutes to do. Each is easier when you have some snappy French pop music playing in the background. Trust me on that one.

Hope you guys enjoy and please let me know if you'd like to see more hair tutorial videos over on my channel!

video: australia for the holidays

< 1 minute

It's here! After rounding up WAY too much footage, I finally had a chance to put together a little travel video from our trip to Australia back in December and January. We hopped all over really -- starting first in Melbourne, driving south along the coast for a few day trips and a friend's wedding, then across to Western Australia to Perth, Geraldton, Coral Bay and back down south to Margaret River for New Year's. I'll be putting together a longer trip recap post detailing everywhere we went and everything we did, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy this little montage of moments of one of my most favorite trips to date!

PS: I wasn't really making fun of Ty's accent here -- I just like giving him a hard time. 🙂

video: 5 must-have winter coats

3 minute read

Alright New Yorkers!

We've officially entered what many call the dreaded trenches of winter (or perhaps that's just my name for the period of time between New Year's Eve and whenever spring decides to show up). Either way, being a February baby means I've always looked forward to the depths of winter, yes, even here in New York. Sure, the days are shorter, the wind bites down to your bones a bit more and for the life of you, you can't seem to remember which coat has which pair of gloves in the pocket. But! The silver lining? Restaurants suddenly become that much cozier when it's snowing outside. Eventually you break down and give in to the urge to have hot chocolate most afternoons. And an insanely chic coat is really all you need when outfit planning. On that note, I've rounded up my 5 favorite types of winter coats in today's video, styling each a bit differently in all my favorite spots around the city. I hope you enjoy and stay warm out there!

[prodl brand="1. Max Mara" product="Soldato coat" description="What I love most about a good swing coat (especially one that's midi length or longer) is that by simply adding a belt, you have a really chic dress. This particular pink coat is just so feminine (a bit of a departure for me when it comes to my coat routine) making it all the more twirl worthy. I wore a simple little cocktail dress underneath (to avoid adding bulk to the outfit), classic black heels and topped it off with a beret for a dash of Parisian flair." link="http://shopstyle.it/l/txUS"][/prodl]

[prodr brand="2. Acne" product="Cade coat" description="If there's one thing I promptly invested in after moving to New York, it was a camel coat. The one I'm wearing in the video is by Suistudio (a favorite suiting brand of mine), but I think this Acne version is the belted camel coat of my dreams (never hurts to have a little variety when it comes to your neutral jacket lineup). I dressed this coat up for evening in the video, but my daily uniform come winter usually consists of a camel coat like this, a grey turtleneck and some high waisted skinny jeans." link="http://shopstyle.it/l/tylw"][/prodr]

[prodl brand="3. Stella McCartney" product="Navy double breasted coat" description="It's easy to shy away from really long coats, particularly when you're far from model height like me, and the idea of something so long feels like it's going to swallow you up. Boy, was I wrong. I picked up an almost floor length coat two winters ago and realized the clean, long lines of the jacket actually made me look taller, not to mention warmer (it's practically like wearing a blanket). Needless to say, this Stella option is a great contender for the colder months of winter ahead. And it's on sale!" link="http://shopstyle.it/l/tyoM"][/prodl]

[prodr brand="4. Gabriela Hearst" product="William reversible herringbone coat" description="I love how herringbone always has a slight borrowed from the boys vibe -- and a coat like this is easy to put your own feminine spin on. In the video, I styled mine with a belt cinching for a higher waistline, skinny jeans, and the illusion of not much else going on underneath (spoiler alert: a little lacy cami will do just fine here). Suddenly, what was once an overcoat now looks more like a statement blazer." link="http://shopstyle.it/l/typz"][/prodr]

[prodl brand="5. A.P.C." product="White wool and mohair coat" description="It's true. I'm a sucker for winter white looks. Oddly enough though, this wool and mohair coat actually marks my first white coat. The one I'm wearing in the video is by Ba&sh Paris, but this one by A.P.C. has the same deliciously oversized fit -- kind of like you stole it from your boyfriend." link="http://shopstyle.it/l/tx9N"][/prodl]

video: fall/winter 2017 lookbook

2 minute read

Welcome back from the long weekend! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas (or whatever you happen to celebrate), spent with friends and loved ones. Mine was spent here in Western Australia with my guy's family -- in the midst of summer, no less! We ate dinner alfresco, opening presents and laughing over BonBons (a new-to-me Australian Christmas tradition), while the warm ocean air breezed through. After the past few months of 2017, which have been hectic to say the least, this has been the perfect respite vacation, with lots of time to do very little actually other than think (an act I often take for granted, when this line of works requires a lot of GO, GO, GO).

In fact, it's gotten me thinking and reflecting a lot about this past year, what I've enjoyed, what seemed to work, what didn't and where I'd like 2018 to take me. Of course, I'd love to hear your thoughts on all of the above, especially as we close out 2017 here in just a few short days. As usual, I'll have my top 17 of 2017 coming later this week -- followed by my thoughts on the year ahead -- goals, dreams, ambitions and more!

In the meantime, since we're just easing into the post-holiday mentality, I wanted to share another video, this one being a much anticipated short from earlier this fall -- my fall/winter 2017 trend lookbook. I've rounded up my four favorite trends (all translate quite nicely into winter) and styled them around Central Park. I hope you enjoy and as always, I would so appreciate it if you would consider subscribing to my YouTube channel here. New videos are posted every Friday, many times before they ever make it to the blog!

As always, thank YOU for reading!

As promised last week, here's my holiday dress edit video, featuring quite a few of the dresses we snapped here. video: a week in the life

< 1 minute

Since starting this little blog journey of mine over 8 years ago, I think one of the most common questions I still get (as I'm sure many other influencers do as well), is this: "So what exactly do you DO on a regular basis?" While the answer to this question is likely worthy of a more in depth explanation of how influencer marketing works in general (perhaps another post, for another day?), I thought it would be fun to tackle this at a high level glance in a (very informal) vlog video (my first ever vlog, in fact!). Given that my past week before hopping down to Australia (where I am currently) was a doozy, I put this Wednesday through Tuesday "Week in the Life" video together, sharing highlights from a few recent video shoots, a hosting gig I had with Amazon Fashion and a handful of other NYC highlights along the way (yes, including Elvis' booty).

I hope you enjoy! And if you have a moment, I'd love to hear any thoughts you may have on what kind of video content you'd like to see from me! I'm still getting ramped up when it comes to YouTube, so I welcome the challenge!

video: my first haul!

< 1 minute

Before filming today's video, I (briefly) explained to my boyfriend what I was filming that particular day in the studio.

Me: "You know, it's a haul video."

Him: "It's a WHAT video? What are you lifting in it?"

Me: "No, no, not haul as in, carrying. Haul as in what I've bought. My loot. My recent purchases."

Him: Blank stare.

Me: Continuing on... "and then I'm going to show each piece on to show the fit."

Him: Blank stare continues.

Me: "Alright then! I'm off to film my haul video!"

Him: "I still don't get it."

And without further adieu, I bring you my very first haul video -- confusing boyfriends since YouTube was created and hopefully entertaining you all in the process! For this particular video, I gathered a few of my favorite recent fall and winter purchases and styled each piece individually. For all product links and size references, hop over to my YouTube channel, where you'll find all the links and info you need! Hope you enjoy today's video and if you get the chance, I would really appreciate it if you would consider subscribing to my YouTube channel! I publish a new video every Friday, many times well before it ever makes it here on the blog!

new york mornings/new york evenings

2 minute read

When it comes to my skincare routine here in New York, you guys know I've been through the ringer. After moving here from San Francisco, my skin went through a series of phases -- some good, some bad, some downright ugly -- and it took me a while to finally get a handle on the situation. Between the climate change (hello harsh winters!) to some pretty pervasive pollution, not to mention a handful of New York evenings where you just don't sleep, my skin revolted -- resulting in some pretty moderate to severe adult acne. Some of you may recall my journey here, which I shared in detail -- everything from what worked to what failed.

Thankfully, I've gotten my skin under control thanks to an awesome dermatologist here in the city, a fitness routine that balances me and my skin out, a combination of certain prescribed medicines (which I shared here) that I've since weened off, and generally, just listening to my skin when it's trying to tell me something. My schedule certainly hasn't slowed down, nor has my daily pace, but I definitely make a point, at the beginning and end of each day to tend to my skin -- a ritual of sorts. I was recently introduced to the brand, Valmont, a Swiss luxury skincare line, after trying out a few of their products at a recent event at Saks. Fast forward a few weeks later, and their team approached me about test driving their latest Essence of Bees line, with an introductory session with one of their lead estheticians, Sandra, here in New York. Sandra has been using Valmont on many of her clients for the past 18 years, which I think is a testament to how much she truly believes in the product -- most of which features some of the latest technology in skincare advancements, including skin rejuvenating elements that are traditionally used on burn victims. Plus, Sandra's skin was pretty much perfect -- the first thing I look for when I come in for a facial.

Since then, I've been following a regimen of their eye serum, facial oil daily -- both in the mornings and the evenings, with their mask about 2-3 times a week. It's only been about 2 weeks now, but I think the biggest difference I can see, is under my eyes, which usually are extremely sensitive to my sleep patterns (or lack thereof) -- my under eye skin feels much more supple to the touch and oddly enough, I feel like I just look more awake. I'll keep testing out these products over the coming weeks, but in the meantime, I wanted to share their line with one of you! Hope over to this Instagram post to learn more about how you could win their Essence of Bees line (retails over $1k)!

Also, hope you enjoy this video we created, inspired by the many New York girls I know, who are constantly on the go but don't want to sacrifice their skincare routine. And if you haven't already, I would love it if you would consider subscribing to my YouTube channel! I launch new videos every Friday, many times before they get posted to Instagram or the blog.

And, of course, Happy Thanksgiving, guys! Hope you have a beautiful holiday with family and friends!

video: top 9 moments from vogue’s forces of fashion

3 minute read

Just under a week ago, the team over at HP invited me to join them at the first ever Vogue Forces of Fashion Conference right here in the city at Milk Studios. Admittedly, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel being in the same room as so many different designers, thought-leaders and industry titans, other than utterly and completely overwhelmed -- a true fashion dream come true, if you will. And what I found particularly inspiring, was just how much each keynote speaker essentially geeked out over the other keynote speakers, a testimony to how much admiration and respect the industry as a whole carries for each other -- a camaraderie not unlike other arts and businesses.

First things, first. HP and Vogue have a longstanding (and perhaps not surprising relationship) in that all Vogue issues are printed in Atlanta on HP printers! Amazing, right? So when the their team introduced me to their latest launch, a handheld portable printer that connects to your phone via Bluetooth, I was pretty smitten and ready to put it to the test. Throughout the day, I snapped photos on my phone (like the most adorable snap I got of Hamish Bowles in his lilac suit) and printed it out, seconds later. Plus, their latest installment, the HP Sprocket 2-in-1 printer (as the name implies) doubles as a camera itself, so you can snap and print in one session. Since getting it last week, I've been printing out a bunch of my favorite Instagram and iPhone photos for the moodboard that sits above my desk. It's been a while since it's been updated, and I love how each image feels that much more special as a printed, tangible thing (a rarity now, considering all images we snap are pretty much entirely digital!). I know people who feel the same way I do, they often find that their pictures mean so much more to them in a printed form. Usually getting portable printers similar to these airprint compatible printers so they can print them off and have their pictures on their desk.

As for the speaker lineup of the day? Killer to say the least. Stella McCartney. Victoria Beckham. John Galliano. Kevin Systrom (one of my favorites of the day). Marc Jacobs. Virgil Abloh. Rihanna. And the topics? Everything from sustainable fashion to an Instagram mishap where Marc Jacobs ended up publishing his bare butt for all his followers to see (Does he regret it? Nope!). I wanted to take you guys along for the day, so I hope you enjoy my very first vlog video, with my top 9 favorite moments from the conference. And be sure to look out for the HP Sprocket 2-in-1 printer in action! It made for fun moments throughout the day while I was snapping some of my fellow conference attendees.

And as always, huge thanks to HP for inviting me along for the day! I'm still pinching myself!

sweet sounds of benefit

< 1 minute

As you may recall from some whisperings on Twitter a couple of months ago, I had the pleasure of working with Benefit Cosmetics for their new Ultra Plush lip gloss launch, which officially hit stores yesterday! Since then, I've been dying to share the video with you guys as it was beyond fun to shoot (I mean, we got to snack on ice cream in between every shot!). And, of course, I'm so glad I got to share it alongside my lovely friends Whitney and Chandamheer -- hope you enjoy it as well!
