From here on out, I'm going to try my best to always cap off my vacations with dedicated Lounge time, with a capital L. After trekking all over Istanbul and adventuring around Cappadocia, Bodrum was a welcome respite where we got lost in a book or two (OK, maybe 4)  and sipped one too many fruity cocktails on the beach, our only concern being to make sure we applied sunscreen every hour, on the hour.
Plus, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad bit excited to test drive this Mikoh swimsuit out. I've never been much of a one piece gal so I love how this design throws a traditional swimsuit for a loop. In case you're looking for a little extra lounge time before summer leaves us for good, here are a few of my other favorites...

far, far away

What I loved, and probably what fascinated me most about our trip, were the moments that left us feeling worlds away from home. When we landed in Cappadocia, I knew we'd be in for exactly that. Cappadocia is smack dab in the middle of Turkey and drastically different from Istanbul -- where Istanbul is a sprawling, bustling and loud city, almost bursting at the seams with activity, Cappadocia is much more remote with an austere, surreal beauty to it. The valley is sprinkled with volcanic peaks, a lot of which were originally homes, town centers and temples years ago -- you can even spot an occasional window or doorway while hiking around. It's as if you're wandering through an expansive ghost town of cave dwellings.
Heather and I decided to trek out on our own for an afternoon hike and ultimately ended up battling a steep climb at the end. With me in ankle boots and her in sandal slides no less, we were certainly happy to see the view once we got up top. Absolutely breathtaking and oh, so worth it.
More to come on Cappadocia (and the rest of our trip) next week in my three-part Turkey travel series. Stay tuned!

As I'm writing this, we're getting ready for our final night in Istanbul. Almost three weeks, four bags between us and countless flights later, we've hopped all over Turkey and I'm so sad to see it end. We've been planning this trip for what feels like forever now and I'm actually quite proud of everything we managed to fit in -- and yet, I still feel like we only really got a small taste of everything Turkey has to offer. There's so much more I'd love to experience and see and do here -- which of course, is all the more reason for a return trip.
When we were initially planning out a rough itinerary for the trip, one of my first must-sees was a whirling dervish performance, which I'm happy to report we squeezed in! It was a wildly dizzying (but enchanting) experience -- highly recommend if you're traveling through the area.

Y'all know me. When it comes to interiors, I'm very much of the "if it's black, white and gold, I'm all over it" train of thought. But this trip has me changing my tune, particularly in regards to hand painted tiles. For one of our first stops, shortly after the Blue Mosque, Heather and I were keen to see the Harem inside Topkapi Palace (I mean, have you ever been in a Harem? Me either!).
As I mentioned before, I'll be sharing a much longer recap of our trip in a later post, but the tile work inside the palace is just too good not to share a little peek beforehand. Cerulean blues. Dusty rose pinks. Antique golds. The colors were just spectacular and sometimes covered entire rooms, floor to ceiling. To say I didn't want to leave and just wanted to curl up in a room to take it all in, would be a serious understatement.

Merhaba from Turkey! I have to say, this trip has been exactly what I needed. A great mix of culture, adventure and relaxation (we're heading to the beaches of Bodrum today for just that!). Luckily, we hit Turkey at a sweet spot right after summer has wrapped, but before fall has truly settled in. We've battled a few rainy days here and there, but overall, far less crowds and a lot more local flare.
These photos are from one of our first full days running around Istanbul. While I have a lengthy travel diary in the works for each leg of our trip (likely to hit the blog after I return to the States), I wanted to share some of my outfits along the way. One of our first itinerary stops included the Blue Mosque, pictured here, which was, without a doubt, absolutely enchanting. The intricate tile work, the melody of the prayer call, the architecture! It still gives me chills to think about it.

turkey bound {farewell to summer playlist}

2 minute read
I'm a firm believer that finales are key. While some folks try to sneak out during the last song of a concert to beat the traffic rush, I plant myself, determined to savor every last moment of our shared musical experience. And summer? She's really no different. Sure, Labor Day has come and gone and Fall is looming right around the corner, but that doesn't mean we can't have one last, feel-good hurrah, right?
I'm currently flying over to Turkey with my friend and fellow bon vivant, Heather for just that. We'll be bouncing around Istanbul, Cappadocia, and the Black Sea coast just to name a few destinations over the next two weeks, squeezing every last, sunshine-infused, messy-hair-don't-care drop out of summer. Care to join us? Follow along right here on Instagram, and let's chase summer together. Of course, we'll need some tunes blasting to round it out right -- feel free to sing (and dance) along to a few of these numbers...go ahead, even if your boss is watching...

And a quick update: Congrats to Jody Brown and Kimi! You've both won a free 6-month membership to Nature Box. If you could both shoot me an email (krystalannebick [at] gmail.com, I'll get you set up with next steps!

east of eden {carmel travel diary}

3 minute read
"I want to describe the Salinas Valley in detail but in sparse detail so that there can be a real feeling of it. It should be sights and sounds, smells and colors but put down in simplicity..."
-- John Steinbeck, The East of Eden Letters
In high school, I went through a big John Steinbeck phase. Naturally, it started with Of Mice and Men (which I read and reread to this day and yes, it still makes me cry) but then I quickly devoured my way through his other works. East of Eden. The Grapes of Wrath. Tortilla Flat. And while his characters inevitably stole my heart, I think I've always most admired his ability to evoke a vivid sense of time and place, particularly summer in Salinas Valley, just a few hours south of San Francisco.
The rolling farm lands, sweeping coastlines and the feeling of lingering dusk after a hard day's work. Whenever I drive down Highway 1, I like to think of how Steinbeck viewed California. Wildly romantic and with so much promise. (Personally, I don't think much has changed!)
This past weekend, I hopped down the coast and along the Salinas Valley to Carmel to unwind before flying out again, this time to Turkey. It was the perfect excuse to recharge, regroup and just be. Hopefully this travel diary does the sights, sounds, smells and colors justice. Enjoy!

with love, from jamaica {real style, real travels}

5 minute read
It only seems fitting as we're about to bid summer adieu, that I share photos from what has quickly become my favorite trip of the season for my second Real Style, Real Travels installment. Oh, Jamaica. Where to start? To be perfectly honest, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. While I love lounging on beaches and sipping on tropical drinks, I'm much more of the go, go, go type when it comes to vacations (remember London and New Zealand?). Basically, what it boils down to is that I'm really bad at sitting still for too long. But this trip? Well, let's just say I'm a believer now.
Usually, when I reflect back on vacations to eventually post about here on the blog, I like to make a list of all the things I miss about my particular stay there. Here's the condensed version of what I wrote on my return flight back from Jamaica:
Morning swims in the Caribbean Sea.
Breakfasts out on my room patio, waves lapping nearby.
Dirty banana cocktail, made by Marcel the bartender.
Canopy beds that catch the breeze just right when you're settling in for the evening.
Dinner conversations that lasted into the early morning hours (we were usually the last table to leave).
Paddleboarding. Kayaking. Ziplining. River rafting. (No sitting still for me!)
Interior decor designed by Ralph Lauren himself.
Hammock time. Enough said.
Farm to table meals.
Roadside coconuts.
Late night infinity pool sessions.
The crew (aka Beca, Justin, Jenny, Olivia, Adam, Sazan, Marianna and Thuda -- Marianna's mama!)
Living in cut offs (like this Cult pair) and slip on shoes (hello, Soludos!)
SUNSETS.
Now, before I unleash you to browse through the rest of my snaps, I have to thank the amazing Socialtye team (I'm looking at you, Beca and Justin!) for 1.) organizing such a fabulous trip and itinerary and 2.) putting up with us crazy bloggers and our compulsion to stop every 10 seconds to take photos. (Seriously, thank you.)
Secondly, to the incredibly gracious and kind team at Round Hill Resort, my revived soul is indebted to you. Thank you for hosting and sharing your little slice of the island with us. I think I speak for the whole crew when I say this, we'll be back. Very soon. Everything irie!

A rum cocktail a day, keeps the doctor (or at least the frowns) away. These two girls, Jenny and Olivia, had me smiling (and drinking) the whole time.
This Alexander McQueen dress borrowed from The RealReal was the perfect island frock.
My uniform? This Isabel Marant shirt borrowed from The RealReal, Cult denim shorts, several pairs of Soludos on heavy rotation and the MVP Tory Burch beach tote also via The RealReal.

Spent a lot of time in this bad boy.

Indulged in a little roadside coconut treat -- so fresh, the stand owner literally picked them, whacked them open with a machete, stuck a straw in and we were on our way. Other local fruit to try? Guineps! They're like a cross between a lychee and a lime.

Went adventuring for the day with Chukka tours. When I found out we were going both ziplining and driving ATVs, I may have done a little happy dance.

The Soludos gang. // Told you I lived in that hammock! // Celebrating our last evening together the only way we know how: a group selfie that rivals Ellen's Oscar selfie. Just sayin'.

But really, let's talk sunsets. Seriously, some of the best I've ever witnessed. The pinks, oranges, reds, purples. So incredible.

The second I spotted this Polynesian-esque Isabel Marant shirt, I knew I had to sport it while on vacation in Jamaica (while staying somewhere similar to these jamaica villa rentals.) After all, nothing says "Do not disturb, I'm relaxing" like a printed tropical shirt. Bonus points for a straw fedora of some kind. Right, Mr. Selleck
Lots more photos from Jamaica, including the next installment of my Real Style, Real Travel series with The RealReal, to come later this week and next -- so stay tuned! In the meantime, keep those Turkey trip recs coming! We're loving all your suggestions so far!

i’ll have what she’s having {packing for turkey}

2 minute read
Truth be told, my bags aren't even close to being unpacked yet from Jamaica and yet here I am, ready to pack them to the brim for the next trip. That's right, my trip to Turkey has arrived in full force and is officially T-6 days away (summer, where did you go?!). I'll be hopping around with my friend and jetsetter partner in crime, Heather, and cannot wait to get lost in Istanbul, explore ruins in Ephesus and relax on the beaches of Bodrum.
My personal highlight I'm looking forward to though? Riding in a hot air balloon over Cappadocia
If you guys have any tips or recommendations, would love to hear them! Feel free to leave a comment below or shoot me an email. In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out how to get everything above in my suitcase before Monday...decisions, decisions...

shop talk {introducing kit & ace}

4 minute read
As I get older, I'm starting to realize how much I really rely on my basics, both the investment pieces (hello, Chanel) to the tried and true t-shirts that I essentially live my life in. Don't get me wrong, of course. I'll always be game for statement pieces and dressing up -- and I don't think that'll ever change much. I just find that I'm now more drawn to pieces that I can pepper into the rotation effortlessly -- paired down with jeans or elevated with pencil skirts. Fits in nicely at the office but can just as easily carry me through a weekend bike ride. An understated piece fit for lounging with just the right amount of je ne sais quoi slouch and luxe feel to it.
Sounds like a tall order, no?
Well, yes. But that was before Kit & Ace came into the picture. Let's take a moment to rewind a few weeks back to when I was hopping around Vancouver for a long weekend getaway. I've already shared a lot of what I ate, did and saw while up north (you can read the full recap here) but have been waiting to share these photos with all of you to really introduce my latest brand crush (and the reason I ventured up north in the first place) -- Kit & Ace.
Launched just this past July, Kit & Ace is a technical cashmere line brought to you by a lot of the same masterminds behind Lululemon. Which brings us to the first reason why I love them -- fit, fit, FIT. These folks truly understand fit and the way garments need to move and adapt to a body. Each piece has signature darting on the lower back, giving it a more tailored effect. Plus, the cashmere blend is to die for and completely home washing machine friendly (reasons two and three why I love their pieces).
For those in the Vancouver area, I highly recommend you check out their shop in Gastown -- lots of unique conversation starter pieces sprinkled throughout the store, like these custom made "button" overhead lights.
This guy on the right, I'm told, is a blend between a flamingo and a Canadian goose. A glamingo? 🙂
Almost bought three skateboards solely for the purpose of hanging them up on the wall in my apartment. Truth me told, I'm still considering it.
Outfit details: Vest: Alexander Wang; Tank: Kit & Ace; Shorts: Levis; Boots: Isabel Marant; Sunglasses: Target; Watch: Daniel Wellington; Wallet: Emerson Fry; Cuff: Hermes; Rings: Jennifer Zeuner; Alexa Leigh; Necklace: Givenchy
I think what really struck a chord with me though is their company motto, "Nothing works without integrity" which I personally find to be so true about a lot of things, not just in clothing and fashion. With that in mind, a lot of our weekend was spent brainstorming and discussing our ideas on the retail industry in general, how we see it evolving in the years ahead and what inspires us and pushes us to create in the first place. It was the perfect creative reboot that I've been craving for quite some time now so a huge thank you is in order to the Kit & Ace team for having me! Hurry on up to San Francisco already -- I know we'd be happy to have you down here in the States!

beach side essentials

3 minute read
When it comes to prepping for beach vacations, there are a handful of items I will kick myself at the security gate for not remembering (and then frantically search for said items when I land at my destination). In no particular order, let's run through them:
1.) A great beach tote. My biggest pet peeve is having to head back to the hotel room too many times, unless it's to charge a phone, so I'd rather have everything at my side for the whole day. Bonus points if it has raffia pom poms like this Tory Burch number on loan from The RealReal.
2. A panama hat. It goes with everything you're probably already planning on bringing. It literally can do no wrong. Until everyone in your group photo has one on.
3. Lots of magazines. I usually stock up on a few current issues and bring along a few past month's issues that I haven't had a chance to finish yet.
4. A fan! It's, oh so, functional for humid climates plus it doesn't hurt that it adds a certain glamour factor to your beach look.
5. Beach snacks. Since you're usually out for most of the day, dipping in and out of the ocean, I try to make sure to have plenty of water and snacks on hand, to avoid any sudden blood sugar drops, or worse yet, hangry episodes. I mentioned earlier this week that I've been trying out NatureBox, a healthy snack monthly subscription service, and it's been key while out here in Jamaica. I'm particularly hooked on their French vanilla almond granola and can't wait to try it with yogurt later this week when I'm back in SF. If you want to try it out yourself, they're offering two This Time Tomorrow readers a free 6-month membership. To enter, browse their snacks section here and leave a comment below listing what snack you'd like to try. Good luck -- winners will be selected at random next week. And if you want to get a jump start on your first order, they're also offering a 50% discount with the code "THISTIMETOMORROW". Please note, both the giveaway and the discount is only available to US readers.
UPDATE: This contest is now closed. Congrats to Jodi Brown and Kimi!

wish you were here {island playlist}

2 minute read
It's a little after midnight right now and I'm sitting out on my hotel room balcony in Jamaica. I can hear the Caribbean lapping the shore nearby, the night birds are waking up singing a few different songs and I can't believe I'm here right now. It's utterly beautiful, serene and peaceful. Earlier today, someone light heartedly made the joke "In Jamaica, we don't have problems. We just have situations." And for the next few days, I'm going to fully embrace that MO.
As you may have spied already, I've hopped over to Jamaica for my first visit ever and am absolutely loving everything the island has to offer. While I have a jam-packed travel diary to share with you once I get back, I wanted to pop in to share a few postcard snaps along with some surf-ready tunes (scroll to the end of the post) that have been getting me into the true one love spirit. Happy jammin'!
Huge thank you goes out to our home away from home the past few days, Round Hill Resort.
Hammock life, napping in my go-to island shoes, Soludos. // Obligatory fruity cocktail on the beach.
Much of the resort's interior design is by Ralph Lauren, whose private villa is toward the end of the property. But first, let's just admire those canopy beds, shall we?

in flight {carry-on essentials}

4 minute read
The other week, I shared a few of my foolproof packing hacks that get me through any getaway. But what about my carry on? A well-packed carry on can make or break a trip for me -- it has to be the right combination of essentials and niceties, which can easily make any seat in coach feel much more like first-class (minus the whole bed and free champagne part, but can't win 'em all). Most of these things are more essential for entertainment purposes, but what else are you supposed to do on a long flight? I suppose there are other things that are essential too that aren't on my list. I know one of my friends would definitely pack some hand sanitizer if she was traveling anywhere. She doesn't like germs and hates not being able to wash her hands, so hand sanitizer or wipes are always in her essential traveling bag.
Given that I've just landed in Jamaica earlier this week (first time -- super excited!), I figured I would share a few of my favorites that I swear by each time I pack up.
The niceties:
1. Oversized headphones that help muffle out the white noise on the plane.
2. Slip on socks for the security check point.
3. Advil PM to help mellow me out. I'm horrible at sleeping on flights but these at least help me calm down after the hustle and bustle of catching the flight itself.
4. A watch set to your home time zone so you can always know what time it might be when you're calling to check in.
5. A fan -- super handy even if you're not going to a tropical destination. After schlepping bags, to and fro, you're likely sweating a bit.
6. Adapters should be readily accessible in case you have a layover and need to use your computer, camera, etc.
7. Snacks. After going through so many airport cafes, I've now gotten into the habit of bringing my own snacks with me. It saves time for one and also gives me no excuse to stop by for an extra pack of M&Ms. I've recently been introduced to NatureBox, a monthly subscription service that allows you to customize packs of healthy snacks to be delivered to your doorstep. Stay tuned later this week where I'll be offering a discount code to try out your own pack.
8. Airborne is perfect for the returning flight, when you're exhausted from running around on your trip.
9. Aviators. Obviously.
10.  Pens. Usually two, because it's never fun being the person waiting for a pen to fill out the customs declaration card.
The essentials:
1. Bronzer, blush and facial water spray (not necessarily in that order) help with the post-red eye situation where you need to look a bit more alive and a lot less zombie-esque.
2. Ear plugs, in case those noise canceling headphones don't work out. Or if you really want to give a sign to the person sitting next to you that you're not in the mood to talk.
3. Bobby pins, because you can never have enough. And can never seem to find any when you need them.
4. Tweezers. Similar to the bobby pins, you just never know when an eyebrow crisis might pop up.
5. Travel size hair spray for revamping your hair after sleeping on it for most of the flight. What I like to do is lightly brush out my hair and hair spray the layers underneath for a more lively, tousled, I-just-woke-up-on-the-plane-like-this.
6. Bandaids. Why? Because blisters suck.
7. Hair ties. Much like the bobby pins, I seem to always lose track of my hair ties.
8. Facial wipes to get rid of that recycled airplane air feel post-flight.
9. Lint roller and scissors (scissors not pictured) for last minute outfit touch ups, especially after all your clothes have likely been sitting together in your luggage.
10. Gum -- no one likes coffee breath and at this point, you've probably had your fair share of Starbucks.
11. Facial tissues, for all those little messes that inevitably happen on the plane once you get settled into your seat.
12. Perfume samples from Diptyque -- usually whenever I buy a new candle, I stock up on a few sample sprays.
13. Tinted moisturizer + poppy lipstick to glam things up in a pinch if you need to.
14. Brushing pitstop. I don't know about you guys, but my teeth tend to feel grimy after a long flight (too much coffee!). If I'm not in too much of a hurry, I'll try to get a quick brush, floss and rinse in before we land to save myself from waiting in line at the airport bathroom.

vancouver city guide {real style, real travels}

5 minute read
There's nothing I love more about summer than making up excuses to pack up my bags and catch a flight somewhere. The more packed I can make my weekends, either with day-trips out to Napa or dusting off the passport to head out of the country, the more balanced I feel when I finally do touch back down in SF. Summer break forever, right?
Part of what makes traveling so special to me is pushing myself to really picture my life there. What stores would I haunt with my friends? Where would we go on weekends? What coffee shop would I work from on Saturday mornings? And really, what would I wear on, let's say, a date night out? So of course, packing for the destination becomes almost as important as the actual planning for it. Above all, I want to make sure I feel comfortable and ready to explore, but also, I love evoking the idea of what this new version of me would wear, if I were actually a local from the area.
It's with that in mind, this summer, I'm really excited to partner with one of my favorite authenticated designer consignment sites, The RealReal (I've raved about them numerous times, most recently here) to help my ever growing packing list for a few upcoming trips. Let's just say when The RealReal warehouse becomes your extended closet -- you start grabbing and fast!
Wore this Proenza Schouler number out for a rooftop dinner. Loved how warm their evenings were!
Dress: Proenza Schouler borrowed from The RealReal; Shoes: Valentino; Bag: Chanel; Sunglasses: Target; Watch: Daniel Wellington; Cuff: Gorjana; Lips: Stila "Beso"
Up first on the destination list?
As you may have spied on Instagram last week, I had the chance to visit Vancouver and explore up north a bit for a new cashmere line launch, Kit & Ace (more on that to come later this week!). While I've been to Canada a handful of times (random fact: I'm half Canuck), I've never had a chance to really roam around and experience some of the local fare.
Luckily, packing was pretty easy this time around -- Vancouver could practically be San Francisco's sister city (same downtown vibe, same art/culture scene, same outdoorsy affinity) so packing was a breeze. It's such a picturesque and fun city to explore and discover. We came across homes for sale Eddie Yan and I can completely see why people would want to move here. I must admit, I'm tempted to myself! Here's a rundown of what I did, saw, ate and shopped...Enjoy!
STAY
Loden Hotel: A modern, chic hotel located just a stone's throw from the ocean front and a short walk to Gastown -- brimming with cute boutiques and coffee shops. I loved the Loden for a number of reasons, mainly including the beyond adorable restaurant downstairs, Tableau, and their enormous bath tubs.
PLAY
Granville Island: Super bustling farmer's market island just under the Granville Bridge (about a 15 minute water taxi ride from downtown). We stopped for brunch along the water and then browsed around from vendor to vendor.
Stanley Park: Think Central Park, but bigger and wrapping along the coast. Best way to explore it? Bike it and head over to the Lions Gate Bridge (Golden Gate's sister bridge).
Seaplane Tour: Hands down, one of the most breathtaking ways to take in all the views of the city and surrounding mountain + waterscapes. I really wanted to head up to Whistler and Victoria but didn't have enough time. Next visit!
Celebration of Light: Over the summer, Vancouver hosts an international fireworks competition at English Bay. Get there early! Nearly 400,000 spectators come out to enjoy the show.
SHOP
Kit & Ace: From a few of the same folks who brought you Lululemon -- seriously luxe, but wearable and washable cashmere blend basics. More on them to come, but be sure to stop by their new store location on Water Street and check out their recently launched ecommerce site here.
Secret Location: Not quite so secret as the name would imply but I did leave wishing there were more stores like this! Vika Gazinskaya, Ostwald Helgason, Rochas. Olympia Le-Tan. So good.
Holt Renfrew: While this is a department store and I normally try to steer clear of these while on vacation, their sale discounts were just too good to pass on. These Diors joined me on my return flight home.
Roden Gray: This is actually a menswear shop but they had me hooked with their Givenchy printed sweaters in the window.
EAT & DRINK
The Flying Pig: Elevated comfort food. We had their lobster and prawn risotto, crispy Brussels sprouts and cheesy bread. I highly recommend you sit outside and take in some of the people watching on the patio.
Smart Mouth Coffee: This was my home base for a few afternoons when I had to get work done. I love coffee shops that just feel like someone's living room and this place fits the bill.
Revolver Coffee: Serious coffee ahead! I had their iced coffee brew on a particularly hot day and it hit the spot.
Medina Cafe: Waffles + lavender chocolate + maple syrup. I'm going to let that marinate a bit.
3 Acres: Apparently, I was on a risotto kick this trip because I had the truffle risotto here plus a French 75. But my favorite would have to be the gorgonzola hot pot. Pretty much ate the whole plate myself.
Head over to The RealReal blog, RealStyle for more photos! And make sure to stay tuned for our next installment....where I'll be heading somewhere very warm. Any guesses?

window seat playlist

< 1 minute
Life has been pretty up and down lately, with some incredible highs and some unfortunate lows, but one thing is for sure, traveling always makes me feel a bit more centered each time I'm feeling in flux. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I always feel the need to shake things up and change my scenery when life gets a bit crazy. I guess I just find it really focuses me on what matters -- moving forward and upward.
This past weekend was just what I've been needing lately. Plenty of photos to go through, but first, let's shake things up musically speaking, shall we? You all know I love a good playlist and anytime I have an excuse to grab my passport, some tune hunting always follows. Here's what I had on repeat in Vancouver...pretty fitting considering Outside Lands is right around the corner (how is it August already?!).
Oh, and if you're in the market for a few other travel playlists, check out the London edition here, the New Zealand soundtrack right this way and the most epic road trip mixed tape on deck here. Enjoy!

kick flare {downtown vancouver}

2 minute read
Tank: Kit & Ace; Skirt: Givenchy borrowed from The RealReal; Shoes: Zara; Clutch: Charlotte Olympia; Watch: Daniel Wellington; Necklaces: Jennifer Zeuner; Sunglasses: Target; Rings: Jennifer Zeuner, Alexa-Leigh
It's no secret -- I love me a good statement piece and this skirt is quickly becoming a fun go-to for evenings out here in Vancouver. It has the greatest kick flare movement when you walk (think flamenco-esque) that puts the perfect amount of dance in your step.
Have a few more days up north to explore -- if you have any recommendations for the area, please send them my way! We're considering heading up to Whistler at some point tomorrow, mainly because I want top hop on a seaplane but would love to hear your suggestions! 🙂

in flight {10 travel essentials for check-in}

3 minute read
By the time you're reading this, I'll already be a few thousand feet up in the air (again) en route to Vancouver for a long weekend getaway (more on that later so stay tuned!). But first, seeing as how I've been packing and repacking a lot this summer, I wanted to share a few tried and true packing rules I've come to swear by over the years. Most of which, I have trial and error to thank.
So without further adieu, let's review, shall we?
1. It all starts with a sturdy, reliable bag. And trust me, I've tried my fair share of cheap versions (all of which usually end up breaking on you at the most inopportune time, like, say, running to the check-in counter when you're already late for boarding -- yep, true story). Luckily, when Kipling asked me to try out their luggage line, I was pleased to find that not only is it easy on the wallet, the nylon casing makes it perfect for expanding for extra clothes souvenir storage. Plus, their new monogram collection (I have the large Darcey here) is a fun personal spin on luggage tags (great for me since I'm usually the paranoid person at the carousel worrying where my bag is).
2. Extra magazines. OK, so I know what you're thinking. Wouldn't you just bring those with you in your carry on? My answer -- of course! But since I'm notorious for reading through all my magazines on the flight over, I like to stock up on a few glossies (and books), reserved solely for the trip back home.
3. Bathing suit. I can't tell you how many times I've gone on trips that weren't actually beach or tropical destinations and I've regretted not bringing a bathing suit BIG TIME. If there's anything I've learned in life, it's that there is almost always a hotel pool, SOMEWHERE.
4. Panama hat. I might as well call this my traveling hat. It hides a lot of hair evils on those early morning flights.
5. TSA-ready sandals. These bad boys are off in less than 1.5 seconds. Just make sure you bring some easy to slip on socks for when you go through security (not to be worn with the sandals, of course).
6. A wrap-me-up scarf. You never know when a light scarf might be needed wherever you're headed. I've used mine as a wrap, a shawl, even a blanket.
7. Comfortable statement shoes. The key pair is easy to coordinate with a lot of different types of outfits and is comfortable to walk in (read: ideally less than 3 inches).
8. Skin care condensed. I used to bring pretty much my entire bathroom counter on trips, everything from the makeup remover wipes, facial cleansers and a bunch of lotions. While it's great to keep the routine alive, it was a burden to tote around and I experienced so many awful leaks and spills. I now limit myself to bringing one facial cleansing brush and a small travel size cleanser. It's really all you need, since the brush does a lot of the heavy lifting.
9. Tinted moisturizer. Because you're on vacation!
10. Sunglass options. I have two that I swear by. A pair of aviators because they never look bad while you're traveling. And a glam, oversized black pair to hide your red eyes after the red eye.
Now, I'd love to hear yours -- what's on your travel essential list? (Plus, stay tuned next week, when I'll be sharing a few of my carry-on must-haves.)
!function(d,s,id){var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)) {e = d.createElement(s);e.id = id;e.src = p + '://' + 'widgets.rewardstyle.com' + '/js/shopthepost.js';d.body.appendChild(e);}if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') {window.__stp.init();}}(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script');

postcards from london {travel diary}

5 minute read
Ever since getting back from London (almost three weeks ago now!), I've been teasing my friends and coworkers that I should have really just stayed over on that side of the pond. Of course, I'm only (half) kidding -- but there's something about London I just can't deny. I fell in love with it! The people, the history, the culture, the monarchy pride, the shopping -- and I really only scratched the surface. While I checked off a ton of things I had intended to do while over there, I still had pages of my notes left untouched.
It was a whirlwind and one I didn't want to see come to an end. It wasn't until sitting on my return flight home that I realized I had felt this feeling before. I studied abroad in Italy years ago in college but can distinctly remember how I felt when I packed up my little attic apartment on Via Genova into my two oversized suitcases. I can only really describe it as a bittersweet nostalgia. Fond appreciation for a time past, a lingering sadness to see it end, capped with a hopeful goodbye (because somewhere down the road, you know you'll be crossing paths again soon). So London, I'll be seeing you soon!
Huge thanks again to Regent Tweet for inviting me out! I'm forever in your debt. And stay tuned tomorrow when I'll be recapping my favorite London haunts, for anyone who might be planning their own trip there.
Keeping reading after the jump for more photos...

Obligatory red telephone box shot with Big Ben lurking in the background. // These locks were bunched at one end of the Westminster Bridge with sweet little notes scrawled on them.
One of my favorite spots hands down was St. Paul's Cathedral. I had chills the entire time I was in there.
The street art scene is incredible in London. We had happened to roam around Shoreditch one afternoon and loved the Williamsburg meets Mission vibe of it.
I opted to rent a flat on AirBnB for my trip and am so happy I did! I don't think I could have gotten quite the local experience had I not. // English breakfast with the Daily Telegraph.
This photo cracks me up. Apparently everyone wanted a snap of my gelato!
The English love their flower stands and I'm definitely on board with that! Peonies everywhere I turned. // Visited Abbey Road crossing only to battle crowds, but I loved this brick wall in front of the studio that was covered in lyrics and sweet messages from fans.
I mean, did I already mention the English like their flowers?
Explored Portobello Road Market with my friend Nancy and came across so many treasures, including a vintage Vivienne Westwood cuff that I'm now kicking myself for not getting!
If you know me, you know I always make time to go to the theater. And Kevin Spacey's one-man performance in Clarrance Darrow did not disappoint.
In flight essentials. // #Selfie at Harrods in the shoe department, no less.

desert mirage {road trip playlist}

2 minute read
By now, you've probably seen lots of summer round ups, with folks waxing poetically about all the pieces they need to stock up on for the season (Birkenstocks, white jeans and #GirlBoss for reading material!). While I'm still putting together my own checklist (with some of the aforementioned items, guilty as charged), summer, in my opinion, isn't quite summer without a go-to soundtrack, so it just feels right, with the summer solstice around the corner, to kick things off this way.
Growing up, I've always taken music playlists pretty seriously (might explain the overabundance of mixed CDs in my childhood room now gathering dust) and usually, to this day, if left to my own devices in the car, I always end up parking on the oldies station. I have my dad to thank for this -- one of my favorite summer memories was a 2-week road trip my dad I took up the coast and through the Pacific Northwest with nothing but Beatles music blasting. I still can't listen to "I Am the Walrus" without remembering how we belted it out the windows while driving through some really small Oregon towns.
However, before we get into my favorite road trip songs, if you are heading out on a road trip this summer, then it might also be time to treat yourself to a new vehicle. Why not check out some used cars in Kansas on the Conklin Cars website? There are some fantastic deals and this might even inspire your next purchase!
Here are a few oldies that are just too fitting for winding summer drives, road trips and wherever else these warm months may take you!

palm springs {travel diary}

3 minute read
If you happened to spy some sunshine-infused Instagram shots from me this weekend, you already know I ran off to Palm Springs for a quick getaway. My mom had booked her annual San Francisco trip a bit early this year so we decided to mix things up and head south for some much needed: 1.) sun 2.) pool side reading and 3.) retail therapy (hello outlet malls!). We even managed to sneak in a few bucketlist-worthy road side attractions, which included large robotic dinosaurs (quirky, but fun) and Salvation Mountain (a must-see!). It was my first time down in the Springs and I'll admit it right now, it definitely won't be my last! From the palm trees against stark mountain scapes to the saturated 60s-mod-inspired colors everywhere, I think I found my new weekend escape!
Oh, and apparently, the  President is on the same page -- his Air Force One made our flight back home quite tricky (read: several hours delayed).
Our home away from home. I loved the fact they converted an old Howard Johnson and Denny's restaurant, maintaining the original road side hotel + diner vibe with extremely covet-worthy decor.
I've wanted to visit Salvation Mountain ever since that scene in "Into the Wild" (also known as the only movie I can really stand Kristen Stewart in).
The pool side essentials. #Obvi.
When I wasn't lounging in my bathing suit, I lived in these white Guess overalls.
Each day, they had a new saying listed out on this old marquee board. It was fun to check each morning. // Pool party life!
A fun idea for patio furniture -- brightly painted, but chipped, mismatched chairs.

After living out of a suitcase for the past several weeks on and off again, it feels so nice to be back home. Of course, I can't complain, especially after getting a much-needed tan while down in Palm Springs this past weekend (Seriously, 100+ degree heat? I'll take it!) I'm in the midst of sorting through all of my photos, both from London and our trip down south, so stay tuned this week for some serious wanderlust recaps.
As for this outfit, I wore this for one of my last full days putzing around London. My new friend (and talented photographer to boot!), Nancy and I shopped around Portobello Road Market, admiring vintage tea seats and old Beatles records before (quite appropriately) hopping over to the infamous Abbey Road crossing. Unfortunately, we were one of many folks there (tip: get there SUPER early in the day because it's still a busy traffic intersection) so most of my snaps have a ton of other people and cars in them. BUT, I still had that "pinch me" feeling while I was there. How could you not?

designer crush {brooke roberts}

The world really is a small place when you think about it.
Case in point? Before heading out for London last week, I received an invite to a presentation with London-based designer, Brooke Roberts at the Battery Club here in San Francisco. The presentation was literally the night before I flew out, which as you might guess, meant I had lots of packing left to do, but I loved the idea of meeting a London-based creative before hopping over the pond. Plus, her story absolutely hooked me -- a radiographer by profession turned knitwear designer, using actual MRI brain scans as the basis for her print work. I mean, talk about trailblazing your own path!
Naturally, I loved getting a glimpse into her design process and seeing her work up close but unfortunately, had to duck out before getting a chance to really introduce myself. Fast forward to later that week and both Brooke and her fiancé invited me out for a night of dinner and drinks around London, chatting about her design work, jobs we've liked (and didn't like so much) and who serves up the best burgers in town (Meat Market for the win!). It was one of those evenings that was completely unplanned and spontaneous and I loved it.
Oh and, of course, when she asked me if I wanted to style a few of her A/W pieces, I (happily) jumped at the opportunity. I'm just bummed I didn't have time to also take this dress for a test drive. Reason to visit again soon perhaps, Brooke?

Getting back into the swing of things at work right after vacation has to merit it's own vacation, right? Once I dig myself out of my overflowing inbox, I hope to have a travel post roundup for you guys. In the meantime, can we all just admire how adorable Notting Hill stoops are? I mean, #precious.

When it comes to packing for trips, I don't have many rules or helpful tips (as I mentioned here, I usually fly by the seat of my pants when getting my suitcase together). I do, however, have one strong suggestion though that I always try to abide by: pack one outfit for the theater. Odds are, you won't regret it because even if you don't snag tickets, it's never a bad idea to dress up a little extra special for your last night in town.
I wore this particular dress for Kevin Spacey's performance in Clarance Darrow at The Old Vic. If you're in London, I highly recommend!

I only have a few days left here in London and I'm cherishing each coffee, each new pub and each new neighborhood I get to explore -- seriously feeling so utterly grateful right now for this opportunity. And to get really all cheeseball on you guys -- thank YOU for reading! You've all touched my life in some way that I'll never ever really be able to describe.  I'm just glad we could all go on this wild little ride together.
On a lighter and more relevant to this outfit note, this dress is going down as one of the best sale finds of all time. I'm currently drafting a London guide (which by no means is meant to be comprehensive as I've only just started to scratch the surface here) and while I haven't done a ton of actual shopping (that exchange rate KILLS ME), I did stumble upon the gold mine that is Joseph's Outlet store on Kings Road. If you're in the area, stop reading and GO NOW. Seriously

that london beat

< 1 minute
One of my favorite things to do while traveling (especially on longer trips) is to set aside a few hours on one particular day to just aimlessly wander around. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to be said about running a tight ship schedule-wise, running from one attraction or monument to another, and trust me, I've been doing a lot of that while over here in London. But, I have to say, there's a beauty to just getting lost around a town you don't live in. Your pace slows down a bit, you're not so concerned about checking Google Maps to make sure you're headed in the right direction and you stumble upon a lot of things you wouldn't otherwise stumble upon.
And since I'm traveling solo for a good portion of this trip, I've been cruising around listening to music -- tuning my thoughts and worries out and just focusing on the here and now. Here's a sampling of what I have on repeat lately while I've been hitting the streets here in London...

 Super quick post today from London (currently running on NO sleep right now, burning that midnight oil), so I'll just say this: I may or may not be considering canceling my return flight to San Francisco. I mean, did you see this Notting Hill apartment I just checked into? Talk about my kind of jam!
And yes, in case, you're wondering, I booked a Notting Hill apartment because of that movie but I have to admit, I'm so happy with the choice! Portobello Market is calling my name this Friday! Oh, and Abbey Road isn't all too far.

What a whirlwind of a trip! It's only been 3 days in London so far and I'm already blown away by the vibe, the people and just how historic every corner I turn feels. I've checked a few of the obvious must-dos off the list thus far, like Big Ben here and the London Eye nearby but what I'm really looking forward to is digging into all of your recommendations for little haunts and hole in the wall gems. (So of course, if you have any more, would love to hear!)
As far as uniform goes? I think I found my London flair. Black skinnies, flats/kitten heels and a chic blazer. Done and done.
And as always, you can follow the rest of my trip right here on Instagram.

london calling!

2 minute read
The day is finally here! By the time you're reading this, I'll be hopping over the pond to visit London for my very first time. While my itinerary is already miles long thanks to lots of guide books and all of your sweet emails and comments (thank you by the way!), it's the packing that I've been stubbornly putting off. I'm notorious for convincing myself I can whip up a functional suitcase in under an hour. The truth is, I can, but it ain't pretty. My apartment is usually left in an awful state of disarray when I'm done and without fail, I end up bringing too much (usually shoes) or too little (usually layers) of one type of item.
This time around, I started a bit earlier (pat on the back for me!) by stopping off at Intermix for a few key basics that I know I'll get a lot of mileage out of during the trip. I'm particularly excited about my pair of Frame jeans and a crisp white Helmut Lang blazer that I think will look brilliant with ol' Kate here.
Here's a little peek into what else I'm bringing along for the ride...
Couldn't help myself -- had to pack the "American Dream" sweater. 🙂
$5 says I'll be living in this McQueen leather jacket the entire time.
The lightest whisper of a camisole -- looking forward to wearing this with blazers, skinny jeans and flats.
A heavy rotation of denim. Obvi.
The usual suspects: Konstantina Tzovolou, Henri Lepore Dezert and my trusty Birks.
