Congrats, we all survived the week post-holidays with hopefully fewer bumps and bruises than expected. As a congratulatory reward, let's get some new tunes pumping for our commutes today. Sing, dance, let your hair down. It's Friday, y'all.

PS: The first song here by Grace Potter has been my secret weapon this week. So damn good.

bethesda terrace {a central park playlist}

As much as I love living further downtown in the West Village, there's a part of me that secretly wished I had opted for a spot wedged way uptown -- perhaps the Upper East Side -- mainly for one reason: hopping proximity over to Central Park. Lately, I've been making the C train trek whenever I have a free afternoon or when I'm craving a quiet evening. For long runs around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis reservoir. For reading out on park benches. For watching old friends meet up and new loves start. For grabbing a hot dog and just wandering. Aimlessly. With a few good songs on repeat.

This time of year has to be one of my favorite sweet spots of the season. Winter's just wrapping up, shedding it's last grip and spring starts to reveal itself in little ways. Longer days. Cherry blossoms peek out. And you suddenly start finding excuses to enjoy outdoor patio cafes and restaurants.
While San Francisco, admittedly, doesn't experience a true winter, there's a noticeable lift in the city's mood when the fog doesn't linger quite as long as it usually does -- and everyone heads outside. Parks are full, beer gardens open their doors and it's usually my cue to skip the Lyft or Uber ride and just walk everywhere I can. Especially now, given that I'll be packing up my life here on the West Coast pretty soon, I love these little moments to myself to just get lost, clear my head and tune out (with a fitting playlist on repeat, of course!).

out at sea

Dress: Robert Rodriguez, similar style here (full outfit post coming soon)
Apologies for the radio silence as of late -- hopped out of town for a quick getaway (my first cruise actually!) with Princess Cruises and have been enjoying a lot of salty ocean air and lazy days by the pool. Granted, wifi has been a bit unpredictable out on the open water (as expected) but it's been the perfect excuse to unplug for a few days and clear my head. When quiet moments like this come along, I love crafting a little playlist to zone out to -- something to tune the world out (even for just a moment). Here's a taste of what I've had on repeat lately...

turkey bound {farewell to summer playlist}

2 minute read
I'm a firm believer that finales are key. While some folks try to sneak out during the last song of a concert to beat the traffic rush, I plant myself, determined to savor every last moment of our shared musical experience. And summer? She's really no different. Sure, Labor Day has come and gone and Fall is looming right around the corner, but that doesn't mean we can't have one last, feel-good hurrah, right?
I'm currently flying over to Turkey with my friend and fellow bon vivant, Heather for just that. We'll be bouncing around Istanbul, Cappadocia, and the Black Sea coast just to name a few destinations over the next two weeks, squeezing every last, sunshine-infused, messy-hair-don't-care drop out of summer. Care to join us? Follow along right here on Instagram, and let's chase summer together. Of course, we'll need some tunes blasting to round it out right -- feel free to sing (and dance) along to a few of these numbers...go ahead, even if your boss is watching...

And a quick update: Congrats to Jody Brown and Kimi! You've both won a free 6-month membership to Nature Box. If you could both shoot me an email (krystalannebick [at] gmail.com, I'll get you set up with next steps!

wish you were here {island playlist}

2 minute read
It's a little after midnight right now and I'm sitting out on my hotel room balcony in Jamaica. I can hear the Caribbean lapping the shore nearby, the night birds are waking up singing a few different songs and I can't believe I'm here right now. It's utterly beautiful, serene and peaceful. Earlier today, someone light heartedly made the joke "In Jamaica, we don't have problems. We just have situations." And for the next few days, I'm going to fully embrace that MO.
As you may have spied already, I've hopped over to Jamaica for my first visit ever and am absolutely loving everything the island has to offer. While I have a jam-packed travel diary to share with you once I get back, I wanted to pop in to share a few postcard snaps along with some surf-ready tunes (scroll to the end of the post) that have been getting me into the true one love spirit. Happy jammin'!
Huge thank you goes out to our home away from home the past few days, Round Hill Resort.
Hammock life, napping in my go-to island shoes, Soludos. // Obligatory fruity cocktail on the beach.
Much of the resort's interior design is by Ralph Lauren, whose private villa is toward the end of the property. But first, let's just admire those canopy beds, shall we?

window seat playlist

Life has been pretty up and down lately, with some incredible highs and some unfortunate lows, but one thing is for sure, traveling always makes me feel a bit more centered each time I'm feeling in flux. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I always feel the need to shake things up and change my scenery when life gets a bit crazy. I guess I just find it really focuses me on what matters -- moving forward and upward.
This past weekend was just what I've been needing lately. Plenty of photos to go through, but first, let's shake things up musically speaking, shall we? You all know I love a good playlist and anytime I have an excuse to grab my passport, some tune hunting always follows. Here's what I had on repeat in Vancouver...pretty fitting considering Outside Lands is right around the corner (how is it August already?!).
Oh, and if you're in the market for a few other travel playlists, check out the London edition here, the New Zealand soundtrack right this way and the most epic road trip mixed tape on deck here. Enjoy!

desert mirage {road trip playlist}

2 minute read
By now, you've probably seen lots of summer round ups, with folks waxing poetically about all the pieces they need to stock up on for the season (Birkenstocks, white jeans and #GirlBoss for reading material!). While I'm still putting together my own checklist (with some of the aforementioned items, guilty as charged), summer, in my opinion, isn't quite summer without a go-to soundtrack, so it just feels right, with the summer solstice around the corner, to kick things off this way.
Growing up, I've always taken music playlists pretty seriously (might explain the overabundance of mixed CDs in my childhood room now gathering dust) and usually, to this day, if left to my own devices in the car, I always end up parking on the oldies station. I have my dad to thank for this -- one of my favorite summer memories was a 2-week road trip my dad I took up the coast and through the Pacific Northwest with nothing but Beatles music blasting. I still can't listen to "I Am the Walrus" without remembering how we belted it out the windows while driving through some really small Oregon towns.
However, before we get into my favorite road trip songs, if you are heading out on a road trip this summer, then it might also be time to treat yourself to a new vehicle. Why not check out some used cars in Kansas on the Conklin Cars website? There are some fantastic deals and this might even inspire your next purchase!
Here are a few oldies that are just too fitting for winding summer drives, road trips and wherever else these warm months may take you!

that london beat

< 1 minute
One of my favorite things to do while traveling (especially on longer trips) is to set aside a few hours on one particular day to just aimlessly wander around. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to be said about running a tight ship schedule-wise, running from one attraction or monument to another, and trust me, I've been doing a lot of that while over here in London. But, I have to say, there's a beauty to just getting lost around a town you don't live in. Your pace slows down a bit, you're not so concerned about checking Google Maps to make sure you're headed in the right direction and you stumble upon a lot of things you wouldn't otherwise stumble upon.
And since I'm traveling solo for a good portion of this trip, I've been cruising around listening to music -- tuning my thoughts and worries out and just focusing on the here and now. Here's a sampling of what I have on repeat lately while I've been hitting the streets here in London...

wanderlust {playlist}

Ever since returning from our Grand Canyon excursion a few weeks back, I've been itching to pack up my bags and hit the road again. Luckily, a few trips are in the works that should keep my wanderlust at bay...in the meantime, here are a few tunes that I've had on repeat -- perfect for road trips, weekend getaways and time-zone hopping.

adventuring {outside lands}

< 1 minute

Officially kicking off the weekend early to partake in some adventures over at Outside Lands, with the lovely folks from Asos (did you catch my festival picks roundup here?). While I'm still finalizing my outfits (referencing some of the above looks for inspiration), you can catch most of my weekend activities right here on Instagram. And if you're in need some pick-me up jams, here's a little taste of what I've been listening to lately to get me pumped for the next three days. Can you tell I'm more than a little excited for Paul McCartney, Hall & Oats and The National?

leaving on a jet plane…

< 1 minute

Just some tunes I'll be listening to en route to NYC this morning. Hello, New York! It's been too long!

P.S. I'm excited to share a fun little contest with you guys with the luxury jewelry house Piaget (jewelry is never bad eye candy during a long flight, am I right?). Simply create a Pinterest board titled "La Vie en Rose" complete with your rose-colored glasses inspiration for a chance to win one of these envy-worthy iconic pieces. Full contest details can be found here and if you need a starting point, you can always check out my board here (I definitely went the vintage-Givenchy-clad Sabrina route). A few things to note: Make sure you follow Piaget on Pinterest here and tag each pin with #PiagetRose. Bonne chance!
