I still get chills just thinking about this show -- everything from the leather harnesses over fine silk dresses to the military-inspired drum beat music, I tip my proverbial hat to you, Prabal. Not to mention, I'd just about kill for these boots. Please. And thank you.

edun fall 2013 {details}

2 minute read
While I bundle up over here in NYC for today's storm (they're calling it snow-mageddon and I'm calling it a spa day), here are a few detail shots from yesterday's Edun presentation. I had a serious urge to nab those two-tone red boots and especially loved the idea of pairing them with a calf-grazing leather skirt. Also, a leather jacket with shoulder cut-out details? Where do I sign?!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Just some Instagram shots from my New York City jaunt last weekend! While my feet recover, let's play a game -- Can you spot Taylor Tomasi Hill, Bill Cunningham and Brad Goreski in the snaps above?

Happy Friday everyone! Any plans for the long weekend ahead?

I love a good color story and Rachel Roy certainly delivered just that. The gem tone greens, cerulean blues, rich eggplant purples and earthy yellows -- combined in such fun ways! My favorite has to be the chunky knit kelly green sleeveless sweater paired with a royal blue turtleneck underneath and an a-line leather skirt. The silhouette is perfectly simply but the color juxtaposition gives it some extra oomph.

Do tell...which look is your favorite?

And here we are, yet another floral on floral look that I wore to the Prabal Gurung show. Remember my first floral suit? Well, I think it started a bad little addiction now -- I can't seem to stop pairing all sorts of matching prints!

There are no words to describe my experience at the Prabal Gurung show. Aside from spotting some of my all-time favorite style icons in the crowd from Ms. Taylor Tomasi Hill herself to the always charming (and always smiling) Bill Cunningham, the pieces in the show literally took my breath away. Exaggerated visors. Sheer embellished trains on gowns sprinkled with feathers. Gunmetal collars emblazoned with longhorns.  Dramatic side slits.

Such a perfect mix of evening glamour and quirky edge. Needless to say, I'm still pinching myself after this one!

Want more? Be sure to check out my good friend Heather's coverage of the backstage madness that ensued just before the models hit the runway! Still want more? Stay tuned later today to see what I wore to the show.

This is what I wore on our last day in the city -- fitting for a quick run over to the always stunning Rachel Roy presentation at Lincoln Center (pics to come soon!) before jetting off to JFK. While the weekend certainly did not disappoint, I would be lying if I said I wasn't happy to return to weather that actually warrants bare legs in February (hello high 50s and low 60s -- how I've missed you!).

From the fur accents, nomad-inspired prints to the rich burgundy lip on the models, how could I not share some of my favorite detail shots from Christian Cota's presentation? Southwestern gypsy at it's finest! Special thanks to the lovely folks over at IFB who invited me to the presentation -- definitely a highlight of the weekend!

new york fashion week: packing inspiration

2 minute read

1//2//3//4

Ah, yes, it's that time of year again! New York Fashion Week! And with any luck, I'll be bringing some of our California weather to New York (because I'm totally not prepared for sub 40 degree weather!). While my trip is indeed a short one -- arriving today and flying back out on Monday -- my suitcase is surprisingly, or perhaps not that surprisingly, heavy with one too many pairs of shoes

Of course, things are already shaping up to be a whirlwind as I seemed to have failed at documenting some of the first things that got thrown into the suitcase selects pile. In it's place? I figured I would share some of my Pinterest pins that have helped me visualize what outfits I wanted to wear while in New York. My top contenders include:

1.) All floral suit a la Céline: I rocked this Asos floral suit a few weeks back. Me thinks it's time for round two, this time with a sturdy boyfriend jacket thrown over my shoulders.

2.) Batter up: After sitting this trend out at first, I've fully embraced the quirkiness that is wearing a sporty baseball cap with flirty dresses. Many thanks to my Twitter friends who helped me track one down right before my flight!

3.) Pretty, pretty pastels: You all know I'm a sucker for a good matchy-matchy suit. Well, I think I may have found the most perfect pastel pink one.

4.) Mellow yellow: As I've professed before, I'm having a major yellow moment, which should prove handy as I think it might be the perfect sunny remedy for an otherwise gloomy forecast.

Will I be seeing any of you guys out there? If so, what did you pack?!

I have to admit. I was pleasantly surprised (in the best way possible) by Tibi's spring/summer collection. Stepping away from her penchant for prints, this go around was chock-full of solid color pieces with some of the most incredible draping around. Mustard, mint, cobalt blue, kelly green and coral? I'll take two scoops of each, please! And don't (I repeat, don't) get me STARTED on the shoes.

Loved the drama of Badgley Mischka's latest collection! The gowns were absolutely gorgeous with sheer chiffon and ruffled layers in some of the juiciest, most saturated tones around (including my favorite combination: teal and robin's egg blue as seen in the sixth photo). Definitely looking forward to seeing some of these on the red carpet once the award shows start up.

You know, after almost a week of shows and presentations, I can't tell you how refreshing it was to watch the Betsey Johnson runway show. Not that I necessarily relate to her designs or wear her clothes that often, but because Betsey Johnson knows how to have FUN. Capital F, capital U, capital N. FUN. From the models giggling down the runway and blowing kisses to Nicki Minaj tunes blasting, there wasn't a single person there NOT smiling.

Now that, I think we can all cartwheel to (which, you guessed it, Betsey is about to do in that last photo).

Hands down -- Rachel Roy's Spring/Summer collection was my favorite from the trip. Every single piece, from the pops of coral and aquamarine blue to the asian detailing and floral patterns putting a spin on traditional menswear tailoring, was something I immediately wanted to take home with me. (Did you see all those cropped trousers? They have my name ALL over them!) I love how Rachel seemingly designs for herself and it sings in her work. Absolutely sings.

You all have probably seen this outfit one too many times -- but my friend Meghan took such great shots I figured I should reshare my first outfit of New York Fashion Week (even if it meant an outfit repeat on my part). I love how statement red looks when worn together like this and have been scheming up other monochromatic outfits ever since. Speaking of which, how darling is Taylor's all green look? Perhaps I should try yellow next? Or blue?

erin fetherston s/s 2012

2 minute read

Erin Fetherston's presentation was all about a 60s mod party girl -- flirty mini shift dresses with doses of sequins, lace and a head turning butterfly print. Perhaps my favorite part though was seeing Fetherston join the models herself to direct them from time to time. I love being able to see part of the designer's personality actually in the pieces they design -- and I think Erin Fetherston does it beautifully.

As for my favorite piece? I adore the sleeveless white lace shirt dress seen in the fifth photo! What's your favorite?

Due to some insane running around between shows, snapping outfit photos was a bit of a challenge in New York. Luckily, I ran into a few folks who snapped them for me and thought I would share. Most of these you've seen before (like here and here), but the plaid suit is my favorite. I think I'll have to dedicate another outfit post to it with detail shots.

A vision in white -- recent CFDA nominee Gregory Parkinson delivered quite the ethereal collection of lacey ivory hues that commanded both a ladylike and dreamlike feel. The separates alone (with the amount of detailing on them) blew me away, my favorite being the posey pink short sleeve overcoat in the fourth photo.

Plus, the shoes are the result of a recent collaboration with Manolo Blahnik, that I'm of course, desperately waiting to be released!

Strong 80s vibes abounded at the Nicole Miller show last week. Neon geometric graphics paired with black and white stripes -- very "Saved by the Bell" esque, but in the best way possible!

Note about the third photo: 1.) I love the way this dress straps in the back 2.) Look at Mr. Hamish Bowles looking dapper in the front row there!

Sequins. Laser-cut lace. And lots of chartreuse! The Rebecca Taylor S/S 2012 collection didn't disappoint (with plenty of dresses I certainly wanted to steal off the runway). My favorite look in particular is the first photo -- combining a slouchy sweater with oversized sequins and a flowy silk skirt -- I loved how it was equal parts casual chic as well as glamour. Plus, you all know I'm a sucker for ankle strap heels and I spotted more than a few pairs from this show that I'll try to snag for my closet soon enough.

Spent an afternoon in Soho with the lovely ladies Alicia of Cheetah is the New Black and Helena of Brooklyn Blonde, both long time favorites of mine (and must-reads, if you don't already!) There's something to be said about being able to relate to each other about boyfriend photographers, the need to take pictures of our meals (despite odd onlookers glances) and generally talking blog talk -- and that is: it's incredibly awesome and inspiring! Thanks Alicia and Helena for a lovely afternoon! Stay tuned for some of our shopping loot from the day, which was the result of staying in Topshop for a bit longer than expected.

Have a few shows lined up today (hello Rebecca Taylor and Nicole Miller!). Follow along with me on Twitter, if you like!

Special thanks to Alicia for snapping my outfit pictures!

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you know I've been dashing around SF like a mad woman to get ready for NYC this week. This meant a lot of dry cleaning drop offs and pick ups, Walgreens runs (for all the little things I inevitably forget) and some shoe shopping here and there (OK, everywhere). I stuck to a pretty casual uniform (read: skinny jeans, chambray top and a messy top knot) for most of the weekend, so I figured I would share a snapshot of my shoes, waiting to be packed away.

Hold on to your hats, folks. It's going to be a crazy week!
