boot lover gift guide

3 minute read

If you or someone you know and love is looking for the perfect pair of boots, look no further. I have found the perfect pair of boots, full stop. They're a snakeskin print, a block heel, that ideal shaft height that hits your ankle in just the right spot. Oh, and did I mention they're currently on sale?

Okay, say you're not feeling the snakeskin. That's fine. I still have the perfect pair of boots for you. Knee-high, buttery leather, the kind of weathered tan that says you were out in the stables all day, minus the smell. Oh yes.

Sure, maybe you don't want a tall boot. How about one with a heel, detailing that's both classic and on trend, and a bit of traction to get you from subway to office, even during the snow, but that will still stun in your board meeting? I've got you covered.

Maybe you hate all of those ideas — that's okay too! Johnston & Murphy has possibly the best selection of fall and winter boots I've seen in years. The range of styles is incredible, the craftsmanship is top of the line, and they're sure to please anyone on your Christmas list. I know I'll be both wearing and gifting multiple pairs. Just be sure to sneak a peek at your friend's shoe size the next time you're over at her apartment!

Check out my favorite Johnston & Murphy shoes below and let me know which style you're digging. Happy hunting!

friday favorites: date night gem tones

2 minute read

OUTFIT DETAILS: Aritzia dress // Zara blazer (old, similar here)  // Sarah Flint heels // Cafune bag // Celine sunglasses

Okay, I'm going to say it — I think it's finally autumn here in New York. I just checked the weather forecast and it looks like it will not be above 69º for the next week (knock on wood!) and that means autumn to me. I mean, it's about time, right? October is almost over!

Another thing that just screams autumn for me is jewel tones. Burnt oranges, deep burgundies, lush emeralds, and silky onyxes are all I want to see and wear this time of year. I love how they can seamlessly transition from lovely day pieces into sultry date-night outfits, like the ensemble Krystal pulled together here, featuring this stunning Le Fou Wilfred dress from Aritzia. The color is so autumnal, and yet can be worn throughout the holiday season (Thanksgiving dinner, anyone?), and the richness of the fabric shines as the nights get longer.

So, for your next date night (might I suggest the cozy Waverly Inn?), slip into something a little more dazzling (this gorgeous satin midi, perhaps?) to celebrate the change of seasons. I know I will! Enjoy 🙂

halloween home decor

3 minute read

Pumpkin caramels from Williams-Sonoma

(ignore my dirty window!)

Pumpkin marshmallow s'mores from Williams-Sonoma

Can you believe October’s almost over already? It seems like we were just celebrating Fourth of July yesterday, and I’m sure by Christmas we’ll be scratching our heads wondering where Thanksgiving went. I’ve been swamped with school (midterm season!) and work, so I feel like I haven’t had a chance to really enjoy October yet, which is one of my favorite months of the year — I absolutely love Halloween! So, to remedy that, we made a trip (okay, three) to Target to deck out our apartment in true Halloween style.

This year, we wanted to go for a classic color scheme of black and orange, and keep our accents in the white or gold family, with pops of other fun traditional Halloween colors like orange and green. Target is great for that because they have such a range of decor options that are both classy and whimsical, but the brand is cohesive and all looks great together! (Sidenote: This post is not sponsored, I just really love Target!) 🙂

One of my favorite things we got was the broom we hung next to the calendar — it's actually made out of cinnamon and makes the entire apartment smell incredible. Our apartment has one insanely long hallway, and you smell the cinnamon as soon as you step in the door, so that's pretty impressive, in my book. We found ours at Home Depot, but I've seen them at Whole Foods and I'm sure Trader Joes has a similar item!

Some of our best finds were in the dollar section, too — the little stick-on holographic and black glitter bats, candles, lots of garlands, and more.

So, head out to your nearest Target or check out some exact pieces from our living room below to complete your Halloween decor. Oh, and don't forget the cobwebs. LOTS of cobwebs!

Do you love Halloween? How are you decorating for the holiday? Let us know in the comments!

Enjoy!

nyc gems: fairfax

3 minute read

OUTFIT DETAILS: Tortoise & Blonde glasses // Sezane top (similar) // Cornelia Webb earrings (similar)

There's something particularly charming about the intersection of West 10th and West 4th — Bar Sardine on one corner with its big windows that swing open in the summer, Empellon tacos with its dark and intriguing doorway, and of course Fairfax, bursting at the seams with gorgeous plants from end to end. Now that I'm newly 21 (finally!), I've been meaning to grab a glass of wine from Bar Sardine, but I always seem to find myself needing coffee and a bite to eat in the middle of the day (I'm a super boring 21 year old; I usually head home and make dinner at night!).

This is where Fairfax comes in. The former Perla — still in the same family — has arguably mellowed out a bit, and is now open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The space feels more open and casual, perfect for hunkering down for a morning of working on your laptop and sipping on too many almond lattes, like Krystal and I did. But it also doubles as a cozy date night spot, offering a great glass of wine + entree deal until 6:30pm and a huge drink list.

Krystal and I were so happy when we finally made it to Fairfax, taking up a little corner of bar space for our work station, grabbing delicious smoked salmon toasts and yogurt and, of course, the lattes. The staff was kind and accommodating, and we had a little too much fun with the gorgeous light that streams in through the windows. The only gripe we had with the place was the tiniest thing possible: if the staff at Fairfax is reading this, double check the spelling of Neil Diamond on your receipts! 😉

Everything about the space, the food, the ambiance of Fairfax was perfect — if you're in the West Village and in need of a casual, adorable spot, head here immediately. You might even spot us hanging here on Friday mornings, so say hi!

friday favorites: blazer report

2 minute read

OUTFIT DETAILS: Joie dress // Stuart Weitzman boots // Olympia Le-Tan clutch // Celine sunglasses // Zara blazer (similar)

If there's one thing that's undeniably of the moment, it's the plaid blazer. Its versatility and sophistication elevate any outfit, and it feels classically autumn. It's easily paired with a shift dress for work, jeans and a white tee for play, and a silky slip for nights out. It goes well with nearly all of the other fall trends right now, too — white boots, cabbie hats and berets, statement pants and big Gucci belts. You can go houndstooth, checkered, or timeless tartan. A long, coat-like shape looks great with a mini skirt and over-the-knee boots, while a shorter, fitted version evokes a classic Ralph Lauren feel.

Basically, blazers are perfect and you need one.

Check out my picks for this season's it item below.

nyc gems: the breslin at the ace

3 minute read

If you ever find yourself in the Flatiron district after having done what one does in the Flatiron district — look at the Flatiron building — and are craving something a little bit more, but you're not sure exactly what, I have a little advice for you: go to the Ace Hotel.

Coffee? They've got it — a little Stumptown is attached to the hotel, with lovely natural light and a great latte. Cool space? Check — the lobby is huge and filled with tables for getting work done and couches for lounging. Food? Yes, in spades: The Breslin at the Ace is the perfect place for a cozy comfort meal — proudly "meat-centric," the menu is artisanal and seasonal, comfortable and welcoming. When Krystal and I visited, we indulged in the Scotch egg, a lovely salad, and some delicious grilled cheeses. It was the perfect place for a midday pause, and it would also be great for pre-dinner drinks.

So, next time you're in the neighborhood and either don't want to wait in line at Shake Shack or don't want to wait in line at Eataly, just head a couple blocks north and hunker down at The Breslin for a warm welcome, strong drinks, and delicious grub.

friday favorites: fall basics (+ shopbop sale)

2 minute read

Though New York seems to be hoping to trick us into thinking it's still summer, I'm stubbornly pushing through this heatwave by simply willing fall. If you build it they will come, right?

There are few things I love more than fall in New York — strolling through Central Park with the leaves blazing golden hues, sipping coffee with the windows open to let the cool breeze drift in, cozying up in big sweaters, scarves, and blankets. Fall shopping is hands down my favorite; I absolutely love stocking up on oversize knits, corduroy skirts, and heeled booties. Throw in a couple turtlenecks, a good jacket, and some great accessories, and an autumn wardrobe is complete.

This season, I'm headed to Shopbop's Event of the Season sale, where orders under $500 are 20% off, and orders over $500 are 25% off, using code EOTS17. It's the perfect excuse to stock up on great fall basics like skirts, sweaters, and boots. Krystal's outfit here is one of my favorite ways to style classic pieces for fall — layer a great dress over a turtleneck and pair with the perfect pair of shoes. Build out your autumn staples before Shopbop's sale ends (tonight!). Shop my picks below for the ultimate wardrobe refresh.

nyc gems: the new sézane

3 minute read

Last spring, I studied abroad in Paris. It was my first time abroad, I barely knew the language (meaning I had one semester of Elementary French under my belt, so I didn't know the language), and I had no close friends going with me. It was an intense and beautiful experience — tough at some points, like watching my friends back in New York enjoying an early spring in the city, and rewarding at others, like when I could finally easily navigate the metro. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time on my own. Reading in cafes (shoutout to my favorite coffee shop, Cafe Oberkampf!), strolling in parks (seek out La Promenade Plantée — like a Parisian High Line), and taking photos in different neighborhoods (Le Marais! Always Le Marais!) were all activities I did solo.

One place I had on my list to visit before I even arrived in France was the brick-and-mortar store for the French brand Sézane. I had coveted their collaboration with one of my other favorite brands, Madewell, and knew I had to see their gorgeous L'Appartement in person. I remember walking aimlessly around the second district one rainy afternoon and literally stumbling upon the store. It was gorgeous, imposing, and alluring, tucked away on a picturesque corner. And, for all the exploring I had done on my own, I almost couldn't bring myself to go inside. I knew, without even stepping in, that this was an experience that was meant to be shared.

I didn't go in that time — I think the store actually ended up being closed when I gathered the nerve to walk up to the door. However, I returned not long after, on a lovely, sunny weekend day with one of my friends. Walking inside went beyond any expectations — the store was huge, airy, and unbelievably chic. I felt like I was literally in a stylish Parisienne's closet. It was nearing the end of my tenure in Paris, and I had saved up some euros to treat myself before I left. I knew this was the perfect place — inherently French and, thus, inherently timeless. I picked out the perfume (still one of my favorite scents to date) and a navy leather wallet (I had my purse and wallet stolen earlier in the year!). They were the perfect little trinkets to remind me of my time in France.

Long story short, I was elated to find out that Sézane has finally opened a store right here in NYC! You can shop the entire collection in yet another iteration of their gorgeous spaces, over on Elizabeth Street. Krystal and I visited during Fashion Week, and it's absolutely charming. A little piece of Paris in New York.

So, if these photos don't convince you, take a look at their Fall Lookbook and just try to resist a trip. Grab a beret and your favorite French girl inspiration and head straight there!

friday favorites: mom jeans

3 minute read

Krystal's outfit: Hellessy top (similar), Sezane jeans, Gucci belt, Sarah Flint shoes, Scotch & Soda hat (similar), Olympia Le Tan bag (similar)

Things we learned from this season's New York Fashion Week: white, pointy toed patent leather boots are in. Newsboy caps are in. Checked, menswear-inspired suits are in. And, still, mom jeans are super in. What exactly is a mom jean? I'm sure most of us have an idea, but they can be easily mixed in with the many types of jeans floating around right now. Mom jeans are extremely high waisted, tapered in the leg, and decidedly a bit frumpy. They hug the hips perfectly and are more relaxed than a classic skinny jean. They're reminiscent of the '80s and '90s - think Monica in Friends relaxing at home in her huge West Village apartment. They go perfectly with a big statement belt and, the best part, essentially anything else. I realize that the Gucci belt is something that's out of budget for some people, but there's plenty of Gucci belt fakes out there that will complete the statement look for a cut cost.

Part of the lure of mom jeans is that they're easily dressed up or down. Add a blazer, a sharp white tee, a pair of heels and a beaded clutch and you've got a business dinner outfit. Or, pair with a gorgeous blouse, low-heeled shoes and a cap like Krystal does here, and you're ready to fashionably jaunt about town. Personally, I love the mom jean with a faded band t-shirt, that infamous double-G belt, and a pair of Vans. It's got that laid-back, cool-girl-on-a-Sunday feel.

What's your favorite way to style mom jeans? Check out my favorite picks below and let me know what you think!

nora’s nyc gems: citizens of chelsea

2 minute read

Let's face it: Fashion Week is crazy. As fun and glamorous as it always is, it's also physically exhausting and mentally draining, running from show to show and keeping on a tight schedule, late night events giving way to early morning meetings. It's also super hard to fit in important things like proper sleep, hydration, and, of course, food. Sometimes it's hard to even find the time to eat a granola bar, let alone sit down for a big lunch.

So, with fashion week coming to a close, it's time to put you first again, and that starts here, at Citizens of Chelsea. Tucked away on 25th St and 9th Ave, the light and airy space is perfect for a midmorning brunch session with your closest friends. The food is healthy and delicious — they are famous for their Smashing Avocado toast (of course the spot is Aussie-run), which, pictured here, is absolutely divine. Don't forget to add a poached egg and snap a pic when you do. Their bircher muesli is the perfect sweet compliment to the savory toast, and definitely get a latte in one of their pretty blue cups. The space is huge, so it's not too hard to find a seat, but be careful — on weekend afternoons, the wait can get crazy!

Go enjoy some leisure time over a beautiful brunch and let me know how you liked it!

friday favorites: transitional dressing

2 minute read

Frank & Eileen top / Gucci belt / Caroline Constas skirt (similar) / Stuart Weitzman booties / The Daily Edited bag c/o

It's no secret that New York weather can be volatile. The city absolutely loves to throw weather temper tantrums. 72 degrees, sunny, breezy, gorgeous one day; raining, humid, and either 86 or 53 (no in between) the next. This is particularly true during the changing of seasons — those few weeks of summer-to-fall limbo can wreak havoc on not only your hair but your sanity, too.

Enter: transitional dressing. It's on the tip of everyone's tongue right now, especially since we're currently in the middle of New York Fashion Week. Transitional dressing is all about mixing pieces from adjacent seasons in order to cope with the ever unpredictable Mother Nature. That means pairing breezy skirts and linen tops with on-trend autumn suede booties like Krystal so deftly does here, or maybe a chunky knit sweater with extreme-distressed cutoff shorts and thigh-high boots. It's really more about comfort than style, if we're being honest here, but there are a few pairings that can make transitional dressing just as exciting as midseason wear. Check out our picks below for the best pieces to make this in-between moment more fun.

nora’s nyc gems: the elk

4 minute read

Krystal's outfit: Sézane top and jeans (visit their new flagship NYC store, opening today 9/7 on Elizabeth Street)

I'm going to make a bit of a bold claim: West Village is at its best around 5pm on a cool, rainy afternoon. No, not at 8am on a sunny spring morning, or at midnight in the middle of a wild winter storm. 5pm, in between bouts of drizzle and downpour, on a September evening, is when the village is at its most lovely.

I think it’s something about the way rain scatters people — everyone is either huddled under an umbrella or holed up inside, so the streets are hushed and open. You’ve given up on your own umbrella, as it’s not really raining hard enough to justify its use (you know that rain that’s more of a mist than anything else? That’s New York rain) and you’ve passed the point of caring. I think it’s something about the click of your heels against the sidewalk as you round the corner of West Fourth and Charles Street, past the staff having a family meal inside Mary’s Fish Camp before dinner service opens. The sound of your heels mixes with the clinking of glasses of champagne at Bar Sardine, celebratory midweek bubbly best enjoyed inside, but with the windows open to let the cool breeze float in. I think it’s definitely something about the air — fresh and clean in a way New York air never is, and yet smoky with a hint of Santal 33 ghosting past you like a stranger you thought you might’ve known.

West Village in the rain at dusk is the red-lipped woman whose eyes are hidden in the shadow cast by her wide-brimmed black and white hat as she crosses the street in front of you, or is it actually just time that is in black and white when the clock strikes a certain hour? You’re jolted back into color when a bright yellow cab appears seemingly out of nowhere to silhouette you in a shock of white light. Did you look both ways before you crossed?

It’s something about sneakily peering into the warmly lit windows of the monstrous homes that line the cobblestone streets, furniture and art and staircases and back gardens and children setting the table for dinner visible only when it’s just dark enough to switch on lamps all over the house. The children are inside because it’s witching hour, where what is real is not, where men in full three-piece suits wander past you with a tip of their hat, where fuzzy jazz music drifts from what you’re sure is the sky and right down into your palm so that you can carry it in your pocket from block to block. It’s that feeling of having your headphones in and not just feeling like you’re in a movie but knowing you’re in a movie. This can’t be real life. Can it?

West Village in the rain at dusk is pure magic.

I’ve thought about this far too often because, far too often, I find myself wandering through the village on days like this, usually on my way to The Elk to meet Krystal or to just sip coffee and read a book on my own. The Elk is the perfect accompaniment to a rainy West Village afternoon — delicious drinks, incredible food, and a warm atmosphere that relieves that nervous, exciting tension that builds up in your chest, walking there through the enchanted village. Before I even moved to New York, The Elk was actually already on the top of my list of places to visit, and over the years it has never let me down. Be sure to order the egg sandwich (hands down the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had) or the market rice bowl with extra avocado. Hold your coffee tight to defrost your hands, crack open a book about the magic of New York, and begin to figure out what is your West Village.

nora’s nyc gems: loosie’s kitchen

3 minute read

Happy September!

It's getting to be that time…

Nights are getting a little bit cooler, days aren't overwhelmed by humidity, and you can comfortably sit outside without sticking to chairs/benches. Fashion week is around the corner, pumpkins will be popping up everywhere, and hot drinks will become the norm again. Knock on wood, but I think fall is on its way to NYC.

I'm just going to come out and say it — I'm not a summer person. I love the freedom feeling that comes with summer, and I love the relief it brings after horrible winters and unpredictable summers. But, as a girl with thick, frizz-prone hair, I absolutely despise swampy midsummers in New York, where there's no relief to be found except by sitting directly in front of an air conditioner. I also hate the feeling of sweat dripping down my neck while I wait for the train at West 4th Street (can anyone relate?!). Maybe it's partially because my birthday is in September, but I much prefer the temperate climate of autumn, the colorful changing of leaves, abundance of sweaters and coats and booties…pumpkin spice everything (yes! it's good! let's move on…), apple cider at farmer's markets and apple picking upstate. Fall dreaming is real right now.

So, with Labor Day just this weekend, I figured it'd be the perfect time to start the buy now, wear later search for all your fall necessities. Check out my picks below to see what you'll be wearing when we're all clinging to al fresco dining come October.

In other news, the photos above are from Loosie's Kitchen in Williamsburg — part of a new ongoing series here on TTT featuring some of our favorite spots around the city. Louse's Kitchen/Cafe is the most adorable, hidden-garden restaurant tucked behind Loosie Rouge on a quiet Brooklyn street. The food is incredible, but you come for the atmosphere — open air dining, gorgeous greenery everywhere, fun pops of color, Instagrammable corners abound. My favorite dishes are definitely the baked eggs (those pork meatballs are to die for!), the hot Nashville chicken sandwich, and the chia bowl (pictured here). Come here on a late Saturday afternoon and you will not be disappointed.

So go, enjoy the last brunches on the patio of the season, and then stock up on these amazing autumn finds.

There are a few things I'm really guilty of once the temps (and humidity) just become too much: my hair is often in a messy bun, I'll reach for a lot of the same pieces over and over if I have to leave my AC blasted apartment, I consume what is probably an unhealthy amount of iced lattes and, more often than not, I'll opt to go pretty barefaced.

That said, if you can throw a pretty kimono over everything, it sort of negates a lot of the aforementioned frumpiness, right? I just love how kimonos (and pajamas for that matter) are having a moment right now. I picked up this particular kimono while in Australia after my good friend Angie convinced me, then and there, that I needed it in my life. Bonus? It's reversible -- the pink side is oh so millennial, but the blue side will be refreshing come fall -- perhaps belted with my new Gucci men's belt? And some ankle boots?

Wait, is it 65 degrees yet? Pretty, please?

In case you're in the market for a kimono as well, I've rounded up my favorites down below!

OUTFIT DETAILS: Spell & the Gypsy kimono (sold out, but I love this romper version here) // Citizens of Humanity jeans // Adore Me bodysuit (similar style here)// Chanel heels (tempted by this pair here!) // Cult Gaia bag // Celine sunglasses

nora’s newport guide

5 minute read

Is it just me, or is Newport the new Hamptons? While the coastal city has long been a summer getaway destination, it seems that lately everyone has been flocking to Newport to escape the city for a weekend. That might be catalyzed by the fact that the trendy Hamptons staple, Gurney's Montauk, recently opened a Newport location (more on that later!) -- or just because more people are craving the quaintness and charm of the seaside town.

I've visited Newport three times over the past couple years — one of my closest friends from college is from Providence, and her family currently lives in Newport, so I love going home with her for long weekends and soaking up everything there is to enjoy in the city. While I have to admit, my favorite time to visit Rhode Island is in autumn (sweaters, foliage, and apple picking, oh my!), I just came back from my first summer trip this weekend and it was lovely. Iced coffees, beach trips, and blooming hydrangeas abound made for the perfect quick trip.

After Krystal's visit for the Newport Folk Fest and my own trip, I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to share my favorite must-see spots in Newport, hopefully to help you plan a little escape while summer's still here! Check out my picks below.

1. Empire Coffee

Coffee shops are always necessary on my lists. I live for finding cute places to sit and enjoy an iced latte — pictured above is an iced latte with local Aquidneck honey (I mean…yum?!). With two Newport locations (this one residing on Broadway, which has a huuuuuge interior), Empire is the perfect place to grab a morning coffee with a friend, most likely while you wait for a table for brunch at the next place on my list…

2. Corner Cafe

Corner Cafe is your ideal place for a giant stack of fluffy pancakes piled high with fresh fruit. Their menu is extensive and offers lots of seasonal specials (there was an extremely tempting veggie breakfast burrito on the menu when we were there!), but definitely order a side of home fries, whatever you do — they are crispy quartered potatoes seasoned to perfection. The wait can get long in the mornings, so come early (unless your plan is to grab a coffee at Empire while you wait)!

3. Castle Hill Inn

Famously featured as the venue for Robin and Barney's wedding in How I Met Your Mother (and apologies for the Ed Sheeran song that is most definitely stuck in your head now), Castle Hill Inn is picturesquely located on the edge of the water, with a gorgeous view of the bridge. Come park yourself on one of their adorable white adirondack chairs on the sloping lawn, order a sparkly drink (vodka blueberry lemonade and vinho verde spritz pictured above!), and enjoy a beautiful afternoon watching sailboats pass.

4. Brick Alley

Head back downtown for dinner at Brick Alley, a massive, traditional tavern with an extensive menu (and make sure to wear something to coordinate with the adorable striped yellow exterior). Don't skimp — order a cup of chowdah and indulge in their honestly fabulous build your own salad bar. We ordered the Triple Hot pasta, which was impressively spicy while still maintaining delicious flavor. You'll be stuffed, but save room for dessert…

5. Gurney's Newport

…and drinks at Gurney's! The absolute perfect place to enjoy a summer sunset, Gurney's is also right on the water and offers a variety of drinks, bites, and sweets for you to enjoy while listening to live music at the Pineapple Club (open May-September) or spying on one of the gorgeous weddings they host. Krystal stayed here during the Folk Fest and had absolutely glowing things to say about it. Their back patio area is seriously gorgeous, and ideal for the Instagram-inclined.

BONUS: Rosemary & Thyme Cafe

My friend didn't want me to include this tucked-away spot on my list for fear of it being overrun by the masses, but it's too good not to share. Wake up early (we're talking 8am or 9am here) to get in line at Rosemary & Thyme Cafe for hot, fresh, stuffed croissants that would have bona fide Parisians shaking in their boots. I love the croissant with ham and gruyere, but they have amazing vegetarian options and always lovely specials. Take your treasure and go hang out on one of the many piers or drive over to Fort Adams and watch the day begin.

That's it! I hope you enjoyed and that this might help you plan your next trip to Rhode Island. There are tons of other places I could've included, but I'll save those for another guide. Maybe a Providence hit list next time? What would you like to see? Let me know!

friday favorites: nordstrom sale

3 minute read

It may only be July 21, but that doesn't mean we can't already be dreaming of cooler temperatures, cozy sweaters, and drinking warm cups of coffee without overheating. The past few days here in NYC have been absolutely brutal — 90 degrees or above and humid to boot. I'm not ready for sweltering August in the city, so instead I've turned my attention to firmly believing that autumn will come quickly this year.

I absolutely love fall in New York. The only season it rivals is spring, and while the cherry blossoms are lovely and being able to walk outside without freezing is nice, nothing matches the moody, brisk afternoons, hot apple cider fresh from the green market, and the sound of boots clicking against the sidewalk, crisp leaves crunching beneath your feet. I love fall. I love it for all the cliche reasons — the smell of the cool air drifting through your still-cracked window in the morning, the warm colors, wearing tights and scarves and oversized sweaters, the visceral need to cuddle (pets count too), pumpkin spice everything (yes, I'm that girl!). I also just really love not being sticky all. the. time. Get me out of this humidity now.

So, it's only fitting that Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale falls smack dab in the middle of summer, previewing for us the perfect autumn fashion that we, on one hand, can't imagine layering on right now but, on the other, want to dream about being able to wear. It's officially open to the public today, so go right now before all the coziest buys sell out!

While you're at it, the photos above are from Krystal's latest appearance in Glamour Magazine — run to the newsstands to see her glowing in this month's issue! She shows all of us how to perfectly take your autumn look from day to night. You can shop her outfit below along with the rest of my picks from the Nordstrom sale!

friday favorites: summer straw bags

3 minute read

Bag: Cult Gaia

I like to tell myself I'm not a "trends" girl. Sure, I like to be trend-y, but when it comes to trend-s, sometimes I can't be bothered. Confession: I only own one off-the-shoulder top. And it was a gift. I have yet to jump on the gingham bandwagon, even though I've of course tried on my fair share of checkered pieces at Zara. I haven't gotten a pair of satin slides like those ones Krystal looks so good in. I can't imagine myself in one of those puffy-sleeved wrap tops, even though I'm obsessed with the way other people style them.

Maybe it's because I have a case of extreme indecision any time I'm faced with literally any choice. I almost always end up putting the hanger back on the rack in search of something I might like just thiiiis much more, or might be thiiiis much cheaper (the only exception to that is online shopping — gimme free shipping and some cute dresses and my credit card will hate me). This probably makes my dad happy — he trained me well in bargain-hunting — but when I'm searching my closet for something fun, new, exciting to wear, I curse my un-trendy, indecisive self.

So, when I began seeing this particular bamboo bag on every single corner of the blogosphere, at first, I kind of ignored it. Not because I didn't like it, but because 1. I figured it was out of my price range and 2. I figured I could find a more practical, more sturdy, more insert-whatever-lame-excuse-I-have-for-trends-here. Finally, though, I had to click on the link and check out this insanely trendy bag for myself. And, lo and behold, it was at a reasonable price point and the details were insanely gorgeous and weirdly perfect. I could picture myself with this bag. You know, that montage that goes through your head when you see the ideal piece? We were sitting in a sun-drenched cafe together, shadows spilling out of its geometric frame. We were strolling through Central Park on a summer evening, everything sparkling around us. We were perusing a museum together, modern art meeting modern Ark (get it?!). That's when I knew, I had to have that bag (and let me tell you, it's just as good in person). Sometimes, the trend is just completely worth it.

It's no doubt that straw bags are on trend right now, but while you long for your order to ship off Cult Gaia's extensive waiting list, check out some of my picks below for staying decidedly trendy this summer.

Enjoy!

friday favorites: post-holiday sales

2 minute read

Happy Friday everyone! Doesn't it just not feel like a Friday?! I'm pretty sure this should be Nora's Wednesday Favorites. But, I'm not complaining that the long weekend has given me Hump Day Syndrome — what's better than realizing it's Friday when you've been thinking it was a whole other day?

I hope you had an amazing holiday, filled to the brim with grilled corn and good fireworks. I spent my Fourth of July drinking coffee, eating Shake Shack, and watching 5 (!) Macy's barges simultaneously set off classic NYC fireworks in the East River from an amazing Greenpoint rooftop. Can't really be beat! However, now that yet another holiday is over — they just go by so quickly — it's time to look ahead to the next events that truly matter. Mainly: summer sales. There are some amazing ones going on, like up to 75% off final sale at Neiman Marcus, 50% off new arrivals at Nasty Gal, up to 70% off sale at SSENSE, and more! Check out my picks for all of your Wednesday-feeling weekend below.

friday favorites: asos sale

< 1 minute

New York weather has been absolutely CRAZY the past few weeks (and by past few weeks I really mean always). One day the temps will barely reach 60 degrees, and others it will be 95 and thunder storming. With this unpredictability constantly looming over our heads, I've been feeling like nothing in my closet is cutting it. I packed away my sweaters for summer only to have to dig some out for the chillier days, and I've actually had to run out and buy light, airy tops to change into midday on a few select sweltering afternoons. So, in the spirit of impulse shopping, I'm bringing you my favorites from possibly one of the best impulse shopping destinations: Asos.

Personally, I consistently prefer Asos over other stores like Zara and H&M, and as an online shopping addict, I love the accessibility and positively overwhelming options (not to mention free shipping!). If you're looking for any kind of trend, whether it's off the shoulder, ruffled, floral, midi — or you're just searching for some good,  quality basics (I love their bounty of cotton and linen items for summer), it's a great place to get everything in one spot. So, check out my favorites currently part of Asos' awesome treat-yo-self up to 50% off sale below. Until next Friday!

friday favorites: summer reading

4 minute read

Hello Friday! It's Nora, here to wax poetic about my favorite summer activity.

The beginning of summer can bring a lot of things — picnics in the park, walks along the river, early clock out time on Fridays, lots and lots of rosé — but one trademark of the warmer season is the collective sigh of relief when we all realize we finally have time to read.

Whether it's hectic projects that come to a head at the start of the year, or a jam-packed semester filled with so much required reading it's difficult to think about doing it for pleasure, we have seemingly endless excuses as to why we don't read as much as we should. Okay, excuses might be a harsh word; if someone hands me even the most compelling of novels during a semester when I'm knee-deep in scholarly articles about media theories, I am not ashamed to admit there is literally no way for me to mentally ingest another sentence. So, maybe that's why the freedom of summer is so exciting — it's a chance to get away from business reports and expense sheets and whatever ridiculous 50-page reading your awful liberal arts core curriculum professor assigned. It's a chance to get back to your roots, when summers consisted of long days spent lounging on the porch, playing in the sprinkler, and eating fruit so juicy your entire arm would get sticky. When summers were about finding a shady spot at the beach to curl up, sitting in the back yard at sunset in the perfect adirondack chair, staying up late in bed with a flashlight, all with a good book.

I loved reading as a kid. I still do, but there was a ferocity to it when I was younger — I couldn't get through the books fast enough. As soon as I was done with one, it was onto another, and oh how many others there were. Sometimes I'd put down a book to go somewhere with my parents, and I'd have to take a minute to extract myself from the story, to not mention a character in the book as if they were my closest friend. I always felt totally and completely immersed in the worlds that were created around me. That is the magic of a book — when you can't remember if it was real life or just a really good story.

So, this summer, I've pledged to read as many books as I can. My dad loves to send me surprise packages of novels — every time an Amazon box appears at my doorstep, I know I have another book to look forward to. Lately, I've been loving memoirs and historical fiction. Check out my picks below to add to your summer reading list. And let me know: what are you looking forward to reading this season?

Hands down, my favorite book so far has been Lincoln In The Bardo by George Saunders. A totally new tale set in a completely historical moment. I'm not giving away anything other than it's about Abraham Lincoln and the death of his son, Willie, and it's set in a graveyard. Interest, peaked. Now go get it immediately. Dear Mr. You by Mary-Louise Parker was a last-summer read for me, but after recently rematching The West Wing, I was inspired to pick it up again. It's funny and depressing and so completely relatable, and Parker's voice is so totally captivating. The cover is what drew me to Harmless Like You by Rowan Hisayo Buchanan, but the story of a Japanese-American girl growing up in New York rings vital in our current political climate.

These are books that I haven't gotten to yet, but are currently sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. Insomniac City's Bill Hayes intertwines his life with Oliver Sack's, whose heartbreaking book Gratitude I read last summer. Hunger by Roxane Gay comes highly recommended to me by the former book editor of my hometown newspaper, and my dad just finished The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley by Hannah Tinti and immediately afterwards sent me my own copy, which must mean something good.

All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr has been read by everyone and her mother, but I'm still looking forward to forming my own opinion on it. I am also dying to dive into Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance — a story those of us in the city are often guilty of ignoring. Krystal's pick is Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon, and with the casting of the amazing Amandla Stenberg in the new movie, I'm going to have to grab my own copy, too.

friday favorites: the real world

3 minute read

Bonjour! It's me, Nora, here again to bring you my weekly favorites. Sick of me yet? I hope not, because boy do I have some goodies to share with you!

This Friday marks the end of my first full week at my first internship ever — yes, I'm going to be a senior in college and this is my first internship ever (aka, to any college students out there, don't worry, just because that freshman next to you nabbed a sweet summer internship doesn't mean you won't be somewhere awesome soon!). This also marks the end of my first full week of dressing like someone with a veritable internship. If you know me at all, you know I'm more comfortable in boyfriend jeans or a breezy dress than business-casual pants and blazers. But now that I'm headed to a big, corporate office building at Columbus Circle every morning, my ready-to-play-a-pickup-game-of-catch-at-any-moment outfits needed a bit of an upgrade, to say the least.

So, last Sunday morning, I made a dash to some stores back home in Cleveland to find at least something suitable (pun intended) to wear to work. I picked up some basics to get me through the week: pointy-toed stilettos (with pretty details that make them office chic), blush suede loafers, and the perfect pair of tailored dress pants. I made it to Friday reworking the pants and the shoes with different blouses and dresses in my closet, but now that everyone in the office has seen all of my 3 outfits, it's time to rethink this strategy. I'm going for fun yet classy tops (prints! embroidery! ruffles!), desk-comfy dresses that allow room for the amazing 10th floor cafeteria food, and shoes that add a pop to any navy blue or grey outfit.
Take Krystal's outfit, above. She pairs a subtly cool lace-insert skirt (with a respectable hemline) with a lovely ruffled top and some to-die-for shoes. It's all about making the dress code your own. Don't feel stuck in the box of jacket-button down-pencil skirt. Play it up with some crazy slides or a fun earring. Whether you're starting your first summer internship or you just landed your dream job, find my picks below to get out of that business-casual rut!

friday favorites: summer soirées

2 minute read

Friday already?! Nora here again to bring you a short & sweet Friday Favorites post. Krystal is still living it up in Australia right now but returning to NYC to attend the 10th Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Saturday, while I am currently writing this post from home in Cleveland, surrounded by high school graduation parties and ceremonies for family friends. Now that it's finally June and mother nature has started to accept that summer is right around the corner, get-togethers and events are beginning to pop up every weekend. So, that means it's time to break out the light, airy dresses and grass-friendly heels that lend themselves well to hot days and dance-filled nights. Check out a few of my picks below for all your summer celebrations, from polo matches to rooftop parties to cap and gown gatherings (and act fast — lots are from Nordstrom's amazing half-yearly sale, up to 40% off until June 4!).

friday favorites: wheels up

3 minute read

Don't be alarmed: this post isn't written by Krystal. Today, I'm taking over this little corner of This Time Tomorrow, so let me introduce myself. Hi! I'm Nora, Krystal's editorial assistant. I'm a rising senior at New York University majoring in media and communication, and I've been following TTT since I was in middle school (!). Krystal's was the first fashion blog I ever kept up with, back when blogs were still burgeoning forms of self-expression and not powerhouse businesses. She inspired me to be unafraid in my fashion choices (I once wore a cardigan backwards to school after seeing it on TTT, eliciting some strange looks from classmates but feeling great the whole time) and undaunted by lofty goals and aspirations (I mean, who wouldn't want to work for a huge tech company  and be a successful influencer on the side). When Krystal took the plunge and moved to NYC from San Francisco, I had already been here for about a year and felt like it was fate that we were finally in the same city. Becoming her editorial assistant has been no less than a dream come true!

A little about me: I'm a photographer (Instagram is definitely my most-used app), avid coffee drinker (my boyfriend is a barista at a Harlem coffee shop), Wes Anderson fanatic, and I've watched Friends too many times to count (but my favorite TV shows include off-air classics like The O.C., Gilmore Girls, and The West Wing). I love New York like no other city, and absolutely adore exploring every corner of it. I can't imagine being anywhere else.

Okay, phew! Intro over. Now to the real reason we're here. With Krystal off to Australia this week and my own upcoming travels home to Cleveland, Ohio -- less exotic but, in some ways, equally exciting -- we have to talk about warm-weather travel essentials. I spent last spring abroad in Paris, and with weekend trips abound, I had to learn what I really needed and what I didn't when packing my tiny carry-on. I like to divide it up into a few basic categories: hair, accessories, clothes, and swimwear. Below you can find my tried-and-true favorites to bring along on your next getaway. Don't forget your passport!
